I am naturally a blonde and was a toe head when I was little. As I've gotten older, my hair has definitely darkened to the point that it's basically this weird shade of almost-brown-but-not-quite with shades of red, and grayish undertones. I've always wanted lighter hair again like when I was younger, so I researched this product a lot and was using the same brand's lightening shampoo and conditioner, but having not much of an effect. So here's a review of the product I would have wanted, to send good karma out there! A friend ended up giving me this product and said I could keep it, and I was very excited to try it, but also worried that the effects would either be too dramatic or extremely damaging, as many users on here have reported. The first time I used it I sprayed it mostly on my ends, so I could trim them if it didn't work out. I liked the effect, but wanted more so the next time I used it I kinda went all over my head, and then heat styled it after, like the packaging recommends. the effect was definitely noticeable, and a lot of people commented that my hair looked lighter. That was just what I wanted! Looking back at pictures from around then, though, I don't necessarily love my hair color from the first time I used the product. It looked too coppery in shade and just a little unnatural. The first time I used it was about 1.75 years ago, and since then I've used it maybe 6 or 7 more times at most, from all-over spraying to touch ups. My hair is 100% a different color than it would be if I'd never touched it with this product. This is the only color treatment I've ever done to my hair. I will say that I think the best results from this product come from exposure to sunlight after its use. What's great about this product is that I don't believe it's a one and done application; several uses have made my hair more sensitive to the sun, as well as to the shampoo and conditioner and heat styling. I definitely have noticed that if I curl or straighten my hair after using the JF shampoo and conditioner, it looks more sunkissed than after a normal wash and letting it air dry (which is what I do most of the time). But I love how my hair naturally lightens more when it's in the sun now! The color I get from the sun now is not coppery at all in my opinion. It's almost like the sun makes the color from original application look better and more natural. Last summer I don't think I used the spray at all, save for maybe one touch up, and by the end of the summer my hair was sooo much lighter, but in a natural-looking way. That lightness definitely faded over the winter months, but it's coming back again as this summer progresses! The biggest complaint I see regarding this product is that it ruins people's hair. Yes, my hair is probably drier than it once was, and yes, after a spray I lose a little more hair for a while. But my hair has always been thick and it still is, and the dryness is completely manageable. Whereas I used to need clarifying shampoos to get my hair really clean, I now use hydrating shampoos most days of the week (I consider the john Frieda shampoo to be a little on the harsher side, but the conditioner gives my hair a glossy finish) and sometimes shower and condition my hair but skip washing it. These little changes have make my hair just as manageable as it ever was. But notice that within almost two years, I've used the product about once every three months, on average. THIS PRODUCT HAS BLEACH IN IT! It WILL ruin your hair if you're using it more than, say, once a month. Even once a month would be wayy too much for my hair. It definitely takes a little time for it to bounce back after a use of the product. The trade-off has been well-worth it for me, though. I really like my shade of blonde. It is a little reddish, but I don't mind because my hair has a little red in it anyway, and it matches my coloring and skin tone really well. Nobody's ever assumed that I've gotten my hair dyed or highlighted. I believe it's right in that sweet spot of "something looks different, but I can't put my finger on it." This is also helped by how gradually my shade has evolved. So here's my advice to potential buyers: don't buy unless you're ready for a significant change in hair color. It will still look fairly natural and subtle, but your hair color will change. I can tell when my roots are coming in (but sometimes a day in the sun blends them back in). Most importantly, DO NOT overuse this product!! Try it once, give your hair some time to bounce back, then asses. Try heat-styling, using the JF shampoo and conditioner, and spending time in the sun. See how your shade will gradually evolve. I hope this review is informative and helpful, and I hope some of you come to love your new and lighter shade with the (modest) use of this product. Good luck!!

I absolutely adore this product, works like a charm. Great for blending your roots, but would recommend wearing gloves. I just used this product on my hair, when I was finished. I saw my fingers were bleached! Very inconvenient, kinda cool too look at but still. Leaves hair feeling dull, but nothing conditioner can't fix!

I love this product! Im naturally blond and it makes my hair lighter in a few uses. It dries out my hair noticeably, but its nothing that a good conditioner cant fix... The characteristic I like the most in this spray is the natural beach effect it gives. Perfect!

Left my hair with a gummy residue thay is impossible to remove. My once healthy, thick hair is now falling out and clogging the shower drain every other day. There are tiny hairs on top that stick up that are a few inches long and broken. No deep conditioner or clarifying shampoo has helped and I am forced to cut my long hair into a bob. Do not try it. You'll love it at first, but once you stop using it is when you'll notice the damage. DON'T DO IT.

So let me tell you a story. Like 5 years ago, I used to have great hair. Long, thick and a lot of it. But, due to stress, i lost almost all of it. I didn't notice at first, but other people did. They kept asking me what was going on with my hair and i just didn't understand what they meant. If i think about it, I am not sure that I had thick hair. Maybe it was still fine, but it was waaay more than i have now. I am a natural blonde, and we always want to go lighter. So, even after I stuggled doing loads of treatments to my hair, 2 years ago I decided to go ombre. Of course, my hair got even worse. I lost more of it and i was left with a ponytail like 2 fingers thick. I kept having my hair cut, and this last year it started to be itself again! I was so happy, it looked really healthy and no split ends wven tho i had my last appointment to the hairdresser's in April. My point is, now that my hair was ok, that i wanted to ombre, to "go blonder" again. And i bought this product. Don't get me wrong, it does its job perfectly! And with no doubt maybe it is great for other people. But for me, WITH ONLY 2 USES, it ruined my ends. Like literally, it burned them so badly that i couldn't even look in the mirror. Of course i had to cut those ends again and now I'm back where I started. In my opinion, this product is not worth it. I thought that it wouldn't be as bad as the dye but it's exactly the same, only you have to use it more times to get the colour you want. I don't want other people to stuggle with hair loss and then when it's normal again scrw up the way i did. I'm not going to tell you not to buy it, because I know that if anyone told me that it would have made me even more intrigued. But, please, think twice before you do. I used it 2 times, literally like 4 puffs (because i only did my ends, THANK GOD) but I, personally, am never ever ever using this product again!

I am giving this a low rating and had to toss it. However that does not mean I don't think it would work for other people. I have brown hair with blonde highlights and this did not lighten them and really dried out my hair. I am still trying to condition and save my hair. However I think this will work for people who want to go blonder and they didn't dye their hair blonde.
