Shampoo -Paul Mitchell -Color Protect Daily Shampoo

I used this for many years due to laziness/misinformation. So, it's very cheap and you get a lot of it. And it does protect your color. Also, it does a pretty good job of cleaning out bad odor in other parts of the body. But otherwise this is a very average, slightly irritating, mediocre shampoo. You can do much better.

Conditioner -Paul Mitchell -Color Protect Conditioner

Used this as my conditioner for years because I was misinformed and cheap. Basically, it conditions a little bit but you have to use a ton of it. It didn't really help my frizzy hair get smooth or nice.

Styling Products -Paul Mitchell -Flexible Style Super Sculpt

I used this years ago for my very fine, 3a/b curly hair. I'm not sure why I ever stopped using it but for the past 10+ years I was using LA Looks (maybe because of the good reviews and price) and finally decided I was tired of the extreme hold and crunchiness.

So I decided to try Super Sculpt again and am blown away. I blot some of the water out of my hair so it's not dripping, but still pretty wet and then rake this through, and then blot again with a t shirt. I let my hair air dry (diffuse if I'm in a hurry) and gently squeeze out any crunchiness. My curls are defined and I have no frizziness or flyaways.

It's fairly expensive; I bought the big bottle (I think it's a liter) for $21 at Ulta. It's not considered prestige so I could use my $3.50 coupon on it. But considering the size and how much I use (a quarter size for my chin length hair) it should last me a long time.

I love this stuff and hope it's never discontinued.

Hair Treatments -Paul Mitchell -Tea Tree Scalp Care Anti-Thinning Regimen

Recommended to me by the salon I usually go to, I tried the full line up that comes in the handy 'take home kit': shampoo, conditioner, and tonic. Shampoo and conditioner I used 2-3 times weekly, and the tonic twice daily. Although I'm not that big on the PM brand, I was quite eager to try these mainly because of the ingredients in them (full of good botanicals) more than anything else.

So how effective did I find this? Remarkably good! There was a definite improvement in hair volume and the amount of my hair shedding within just the first 3 weeks of usage, although slightly at the expense of what I'm used to from shampoos and conditioners - shine, softness that kind of thing. The shampoo, creamy in texture and scented like tea tree which I love, cleared build-up from my scalp, as promised and didn't strip my hair color, although I did find it slightly drying - in itself not a problem as the conditioner used straight after balanced out the effect. Usually I find it difficult to find an effective shampoo to clear build-up but this one actually did it. As a bonus I also found it helped keep my scalp clear of the psoriasis that flares up every now and again, possibly due to the inclusion of tea tree. The foam I found slightly sticky although good at giving instant volume to my roots.

If I had one gripe it would have to be that I need to use the foam twice a day, every day. I'm more accustomed to using hair loss products that only require twice weekly or so application, this twice daily routine was quite time consuming for me. However if you want results you definitely need to put in the time and effort.

Verdict: A good product range that's worth trying out!

Shampoo -Paul Mitchell -Tea Tree Special Shampoo

Another love/hate affair for me...I like this one because it does actually help reduce my oily scalp and calms my scalp down (probably due to the Tea Tree oil in it), however the dislike is it's slightly on the harsh side which is no doubt due to the fact that it contains SLS. Rarely does my hair like any shampoo that contains it as I end up with hair that feels 'stripped' clean and dry, and not in a good sense! It's also got too much peppermint oil, straight out of Pureology's Hydrate shampoo books, PM have also added it at 6th place in the ingredients list, although unlike Pureology oddly I don't find my scalp itching after using this. It also foams less and smells quite refreshing and more natural. However I wouldn't use this long term simply because it doesn't agree with my hair and I end up having to use a hair mask weekly to try and restore my hair to its pre-shampoo state. The hunt for a good shampoo continues...
