AVOID THIS PRODUCT! >:O This is a horrible product for tanning! It's almost all mineral oil! mineral oil combined with tanning can actually STRIP the colour off your skin! When I tan, I usually get a deep pretty golden colour really fast. I used this last summer, and at the end of summer I was still SO PALE! Also: it was the first time in my life that I actually got a sunburn!!! I couldn't understand what was going on, and decided to investigate. This is what I found:

No wonder I got almost no colour!
.
The smell of this is coconut. It's quite strong, but not bad generally imo. If you want to use this as a moisturizer, it's OK, as long as you don't go out in the sun with it!!
.
UPDATE: saw a full shelf of this in a the store today... I think I should tell the people that work there about this product and recommend them stop ordering it. continued >>

I don't use this for tanning, just as a body moisturizer. Works great to seal in moisture after a shower and gives a nice sheen, especially on the legs. I love the scent (slight coconut/tropical) - and I usually don't even like coconut smells as I find them too strong or fake. Just bought another bottle!

I'm fair skinned and never tan, but since moving to Costa Rica 2 months ago I started getting some colour on my arms. My legs however still glowed white. I bought this product today and sat out for 20 minutes in the late afternoon sun (I know the sun here and can sit for 2 hours at that time of day generally).
This product achieved in less than half an hour what two months of sun couldn't. My legs have lost their white sheen and I can't wait to use this on my beach trip this weekend (I will be using it solo for short periods, followed by using at least spf 30 and this in combo, Burning is no fun)

I live in Hawaii, so tanning oil is a must for the beach. I tan easily when I'm out in the sun but this oil makes my skin turn golden. Smells like coconut, which I absolutely love. There is no SPF. I keep this bottle in a plastic bag before putting it in my beach bag just invade of leakage. Def would repurchase!

I used this when i went too the pool and got a slight tan but You have to know,
i was only out for 30 minutes.
i wore it in the pool and didn't wait for it to dry.
it was very cloudy outside and then rained.
my skin was not exfoliated.
And i still got a slight tan even in those conditions!
This tanning oil is pretty good, but i haven't fully experienced it. I will back for another review soon! (:

I was born in Louisiana and lived in Texas until 5 years ago when I moved to the Pacific Northwest. Needless to say, I'm not getting as much vitamin D as I'm used to. I became pretty pale after moving up here and decided that I needed my deep tanned skin again. I researched different products online and saw that nothing but good things had been said about Hawaiiain Tropic. I've always used lotions so I wanted to try the oil out and see how it worked with my skin. I bought the pump spray with SPF 6 and am hooked! After a hefty tanning sesh in the sun my skin was definitely darker and satin-smooth; I got compliments right away. It smells wonderful and has pretty good ingredients compared to other brands. This product is definitely one of my Summer must-haves!

I love this product. Why? It smells like coconuts and vanilla bean, it mosturizes really well, it gives your skin that shiny sheen (which I adore) and it makes you tan. I wear this at the beach and it really does an amazing job tanning my skin - and fast. I don't get the leather looking result on my skin either. Its very soft and supple. I use to have a very hard time tannign my legs but when I apply this and go to the beach, it just instantly tans. Its a miracle worker. It has no SPF at all, so if you burn easily, please use it cautiously. It is very oily when you apply it on your skin, but after you rub it in, your skin looks and feels sooooo good. The only negative is that sometimes in leather car seats, it may leave a greasy residue but I think its worth it. I would recommend this to all who <3 to tan!!!
UPDATE: 5/17/12
I still use this to tan and I still luv it sooo much! Seriously, I slather this on my legs and in one hour, I am tan to the shade I want to be. For those saying its oily, well, its tanning OIL...geez. Yea, it can get messy, but what do you expect!!! Its OIL!!! For the first 10 minutes, your leg will attract any type of dust or hair, but after that, its all goooood. But I love the oily look on my legs...the sheen and the shine really makes my legs sexy and I am sure it will do the same for you. continued >>

AMAZING PRODUCT. <3
- Smells like cocunuts & vanilla.
- Packaging is easy to use with a little squeezy-like top.
- I bought it at Wal-Mart for around $9 and its great!
It does everything it says it does, and gives you a great dark tan. If you use it basically every time you tan, it's amazing.
FOR WARNING: If your pale, don't use this right away. Get a base tan, then use it. Unless you want 2nd degree burns (yes, I got burnt bad the first time using this because i didnt know, and Yes thats how good this stuff works)

I love everything about this product. The scent is to die for, it makes you tan beautifully, it's affordable and the packaging is great.
Super moisturizing as well, my skin feels so much softer after using this.
I'm pale but I've only ever burnt once, so I applied this and I layed out in the sun (only early 20 degrees Celcius) for about 20 minutes on each side and I already have a semi-base tan. I'm guessing if I do this for another few days I'll have the tan I want :) Definitely recommended.

I absolutely love this product! First and foremost, the product itself works amazing. It does what it says, "dark tanning oil". Giving me the perfect tan. The smell is one of my signature scents.

Just pulled this off the shelf this December morning, turning to oiling instead of the same-old post-shower lotion routine---And I love! The classic HT scent swept me back to warmer, sunnier weather, and the benefits of sheer soft moisturization is long-lasting; still, 4 hours later my skin is very soft and smooth. I read somewhere a beauty editor uses HT oil as her sole moisturizer, sun or not, and I am convinced: move over cremes and lotions, this oil is where it's at.

LOL! I'm VERY pale but I tan amazingly well. I bought this at CVS when most of the lower back portion was covered with a security sticker. I come home, peel off the sticker and it reads: "No Sunscreens. To be used by those with a good tan." Damn it!
Anyway, I went to the beach a few times to work on a tan before I slather myself in this oil. Then I applied this after I had a reasonable tan. It's like any other oil.
Makes you shiny (shine reflects light making you tan faster).
It smells very good.
It does its job.
Negative: As mentioned above, don't use it if you're very pasty and burn quickly.

OMG, the smell. It's heaven. I don't mind mineral oil in my products, but I knocked one star off due to this being so THICK. If they could cut this with some silicone or a lower viscosity oil to make application faster and smoother, I'd give an easy 5 star rating. Even when the bottle and oil are warm, it's still thick, thick, thick! Other than that, I love this stuff!

Mineral oil, seriously? Every time I use this I read the ingredients and wish it didn't have mineral oil. Don't even think about putting this on your face. I actually use sunblock on my face, especially around my eyes, and it's easier to learn how to use a matte bronzer than it is to reverse sun damage on your face.
Anyway, I loooove this oil and its smell. It gives beautiful color too. I don't burn easily (crazy pale but part Native American) but I am VERY careful not to overdo the sun. It's a great tool to help even out areas that aren't as dark too.

I love this Dark Tanning Oil! I tan year round with high end indoor lotions, but I have to say, I get amazing color with this outdoor oil. It probably gives the most natural color out of anything I've ever used. I live in California part of the year, and when I slather this on at the beach, I get the most amazing deep tan color (a different, darker color than I've got with any other tanning lotion or oil!).
There's a special on this at my local drugstore for $3.99 so I'm going to pick up another bottle... I also use this oil in the stand up beds at the salon (please never use this product on lay down tanning beds, the oil destroys the acrylic!) and I get great results every time. Oh and I LOVE the smell! It smells like tropical flowers and an exotic vacation, all in one whiff. I love using this oil, I just wish it didn't contain any mineral oil!! so I took a point off for that.

I usually by this in the spray. It produces excellent color- a more natural color. I ended up getting BETTER color with this in the sun than going to the tanning bed using expensive lotion. It is always in my beach bag. I stock up in spring and it lasts all summer. Will repurchase again next year!!!

I use this primarily as a body moisturizer because I normally use self-tanner if I want tanned skin. All I can say is HG!! I have snake skinned legs that are ultra dry and scaly. I've tried every cream imaginable but nothing works better than this. I have this in the spray version and it was super cheap ($10 CAD for a big bottle).
It is so convenient. I just spritz a few times on my legs and spread it with my hands, and my legs soak up the oil really quickly and become hydrated and dewy. The dark color in the oil makes my skin tone look even and gives me a healthy complexion, and it smells absolutely amazing. The coconut scent is my favorite part of this. I carry a bottle of this everywhere with me when I travel.
As for its effect as a tanning oil, it works great. I tried this while sunbathing on my patio and after an hour, my arms and legs were noticeable darker and my skin was still moist. It is a must-have.

Ok, so I'm cheating on my self-tanner :[ Anyway, I really like this product. I've found that using this and tanning outside is a lot less damaging to my skin then a trip to the tanning bed. My skin is fairly pale naturally but I don't burn easily - for those who DO burn easily, be careful with this product! I started by sitting outside for 20 minutes for the first couple of days and that was just enough to give me color without burning. Every 2 or 3 days I add on another 10 minutes to my time and I haven't burned once. I NEVER use it on my face, I use self-tanner instead. I highly recommend using SPF on your face, you'll regret it later if you don't. I love that this product gives you a nice tanned color instead of that fake brown color you get from a tanning bed. It also does a great job of keeping your skin hydrated, which is great for me because my skin is really dry and prone to that "desert" look. Anyway, as long as you're super careful with this product you'll get great results.

Is this staggeringly expensive all over the world, or only in my country?
Anyway...Assuming money is NO OBJECT..it is HG. As others have mentioned, not for tanning, but for the beautiful smelllllll..... :D
.
This is Jamaica in a bottle. Of course, I've never BEEN to Jamaica, but one can dream, no? One sniff, and I dream of lush laid-back islands, blue sky, dancing couples. Across the beach, two boys are running around flying a kite. Cricket is big in the W. Indies, so I can also picture some kids playing cricket in the white sand, imagining they're the next Brian Lara or whatever.
.
I THINK I hear seagulls, but the waves are roaring in the distance, and a bunch of teens are playing bouncy happy music on their stereo, so it all kind of blends together. And the palm trees are rocking in the wind. And my hammock is lulling me to sleep.
.
Then it stops & I'm back in reality. So I take another whiff...and return.....:) So lovely. continued >>
