Moisturizers -Skinceuticals -Triple Lipid Restore 2:4:2

on 1/7/2018 11:35:00 PM

I can't believe I am the first to review this moisturizer. I was torn as to whether I should list it as a moisturizer or a facial treatment, but I use it primarily as a moisturizer. It is supposed to restore the volume to your skin, and as my skin ages, I can certainly use a boost. I wasn't thrilled with the price, but I received a decent size sample, and was hooked. It's a great base under my makeup, not too rich, doesn't irritate my sensitive skin and absorbs nicely. I'm on my second jar. The first lasted about 8 months. My skin can be a bit on the dry side, and this does a good job, even in the middle of winter in the Midwest. I do feel like I've had some positive plumping effects, but nothing drastic. Highly recommend!

Treatments (Face) -Skinceuticals -Hyaluronic Acid Intensifier

Really frustrated as I have posted my review on other websites that are authorized retailers of Skinceuticals and they delete my review! I'm sure this is at Skinceuticals' request. That may explain why there are only positive reviews all over those sites for this serum (and I've noticed this for the CE ferulic reviews as well - I come here to makeupalley to get unbiased and undoctored reviews now). I'm posting here since this may help others make a decision with this product. The amount of denatured alcohol in this is crazy! I have dry skin and found this to be more drying over time. Initially I did see a rejuvenative and plumping effect, but after three weeks (using it only once per day over my CE Ferulic) it made my under eye area more dry and my eye and face wrinkles more pronounced. This was the only thing I changed in my regimen. I believe it's the denatured alcohol in this product that my skin doesn't agree with, and eventually my skin started to sting slightly after application because of this alcohol. Definitely sample this first!

Treatments (Face) -Skinceuticals -C E Ferulic

The basics of EVERY skincare routine should be:
A - aka vitamin A or retinol
B - aka vitamin B or niacinamide, which is an antioxidant
C - aka vitamin C, which is an antioxidant

Yes moisturizers and acids are important too but 1) moisturizers are actually super simple products so no need to overthink that and 2) if you have your ABCs down to a T, you may not even need acids.

I'm a skincare addict and - nerd. I love my skincare products, but more importantly, I want to know HOW they work and WHY they work. Nowadays in 2017 there are million tons of products and information out there that make the most outrageous claims. But these 4 products above have been scientifically proven for DECADES. Lab tests and clinical trials and human trials and decades of consumer use support the claims so THESE PRODUCTS WORK. You just have to find one that works FOR YOU.

What to look for in a well formulated vitamin C:
- a stable formulation, which basically only leaves you with serums. Vitamin C in moisturizers breaks down too quickly and are hence ineffective.
- the right pH, since vitamin C works best between 2.5-3.5. HOWEVER, the lower the pH, the more chances are of irritation, which is ALWAYS bad for your skin. The notion that 'it will work , just keep up with it' is very outdated in 2017. And in this day and age, you always have alternatives.

There's a ton of information available on why vitamin c is so important for your skin, so I'll skip that here. I will say that if you are pregnant, which means you CAN'T use retinol or vitamin A, and you want to prevent and treat the issues that you use retinol for such as melasma, and improve brightening, this is where vitamin C becomes extra important. You should be using a vitamin c anyways, but when you have to skip retinol, then be extra diligent about your vitamin C.

How my morning routine looks like:
- cleansing with Lancôme Galatee
- Cosrx AHA BHA toner (to bring down my pH after cleansing)
- Skinceuticals CE Ferulic/20min wait
- The Ordinary azelaic acid/5min wait
- hydrating serum (currently Hada Labo although it doesn't do anything since hyaluronic acid ON your skin is not effective but I don't want to throw it away)
- light moisturizer (currently L'Oreal Revitalift Laser X3 since it was on sale but like I said, moisturizers should be super simple products so just buy the cheapest one that still works for your skin and save your $ for actives such as the ABC)
- spf (currently alternating between Vichy and Lancôme)/10min wait
- makeup

Last note: yes this is super expensive so I buy mine from reputed sellers on Ebay, in 5 or 6 of 5ml sample sizes. Firstly this is much cheaper (you get 25 or 30ml for half the price) and secondly, you can keep it fresh for longer. Double win!

Treatments (Face) -Skinceuticals -Refining Night Cream With 1 % Pure Retinol

This little tube is a great investment. My dad actually got from his dermatologist to fade sunspots, but he hated using it and passed it to me. It is quite strong and a pea sized amount is sufficient for my entire face. Expect a peel a few days after you use it for the first few times. I use once a week. Always wear a good sunblock.

Treatments (Face) -Skinceuticals -Phyto Corrective Gel

This is such an amazingly versatile product. Unlike pretty much the rest of the Skinceuticals line, this is very soothing and gentle. This helps so much with redness and irritation, angry cystic acne as well, but not just on your face! Ladies I use this after bikini/brazilian waxes to calm my skin down! It works amazing. Also great for sun burns. Can be added into pretty much any skincare routine. I go through this product so quickly because of how much it can be used for. Unfortunately, it is a pretty penny for my budget, but would recommend to anyone, and would definitely purchase again.
