I read a lot of reviews about this mascara before I bought it. While I am no stranger to the higher priced mascaras (I find that I always go back to Dior Blackout) I have found myself liking the performance (and price point) of Loreal Voluminous Full Definition but felt I was missing something with a more luxurious feel. People complained about the formula and the clumping and flaking so I was naturally apprehensive. I already have rather long lashes so I always go for volumizing mascara and the sales clerk in Sephora tried to talk me out of this one and into YSL's Baby Doll (I think) but I stuck to my guns and bought it anyway and I love it! The trick to this mascara is to not be in a hurry when you use it. If you pull the brush out too fast you will deposit too much product from the brush to your lashes. But if you work at a moderate pace and apply in short wiggling strokes it applies very smoothly it does give a voluminous false lash effect. I tend to work from the middle of my lashes out so there's less product once I get to the corners of my eyes and I don't dip back in to do the bottom lashes. I was impressed with the pigmentation (I only wear black mascara and some appear grayish to me) and my lashes actually feel nourished upon removal. What I love about it is that my lashes stay put once it sets and don't seem to get weighed down by the product throughout the day. I found one coat is all I need for my lashes to look their best. As far as the wear goes, I have not experienced any flaking and removing it is a breeze, which I love because getting mascara all the way off my lashes is a pain. I followed Sephora.com's application guidelines (in addition to my own) and got an even better result the second time I used it. Some were hung up on the scent which doesn't really bother me. It's on my eyes not my nose! I find that this is common with higher end cosmetics anyway. However, I am sad I love it so much because I tend to choke on the $30 price point since as I mentioned, I have been wearing Loreal a lot lately at 8.99 per tube. I've used it now daily for 2 weeks and the consistency is the same. I think I will be purchasing another tube regardless though!
I have this in the blackish burgundy shade and it is divine. One coat and vavavavoom! Lashes to THERE. One small gripe -- it is perfumed. Why??? This lengthens and thickens and did not clump. The off black shade is deep enough not to make me look washed out or as though I had pink eye.
The brush is terrible and small and it barely does anything compared to the large amount of Mascara that comes out. Even when I try wipe of all the excess, it still comes out clumpy. I have never been able to successfully wear this
Obsessed with this mascara, but I also like very dark eyes and a lot of drama. It is very expensive, but well worth it!
Makes your eyelashes really shocking, gives you doll like lashes, but it clumps like hell...its a very wet formula and of course the packaging is amazing, Im not sure I would buy it again, its expensive and the clumping is a big problem
Despite the price point, I can't stop going back to this mascara. Everything from the glamorous packaging, the amazing brush, and the formula! This always gets me compliments on my lashes and I love wearing big falsies. People always ask if they're my real lashes with a few coats of this baby :D
Best of all, it doesn't flake. I appreciate the color selection - I've tried the violet and it's surprisingly saturated, but classic black is an absolute staple and this will always be a repurchase in my makeup bag.
I received this mascara as a mini sample. Sample size is excellent and should last me for a month.
However, I am not sure I would use it again. And I definitely would not buy it!
It clumps terribly. And about an hour after putting it on, I had a million little flakes under my eyes and on my brows. Luckily I was just out shopping and not at any event that would have been embarrassing.
There really is nothing I like about this mascara.
The first time I bought this, I swore I wouldn't buy it again due to the $30 price. After I went back to my regular Clinique mascara and tried samples of others, I came back to this. It works better once the tube is a little older and a little drier. I don't have clumping issues if I apply slowly. Gives a lot of volume and definition. Smells a bit like roses.
So, i have mixed feelings about this mascara. First, its really thick and you have to do a lot of cleaning the brush before you put it on. However, once its on, it looks great, and it keeps your curl, doesn't way your lashes down. But for the price and the amount of effort to clean the brush, I'm not sure its worth it or if I will repurchase.
so i said no to buying this product again, but im really not sure. i bought this as a gift to myself on my birthday. ive never spent 30 dollars on a mascara, but i was like hey whatever ill give it a go. really black, really intense. takes a while to work with cause it can get clumpy, sometimes borderline spidery, but when it comes out good, it looks really really good. sometimes its hard to take off and when its wet leaves marks on your eyelids. but that happens with a lot of mascaras so whatever. it does have a fragrance but only when your smelling the wand, you cant really smell it on yourself. ive had this for six months. yes i know you should throw mascara away every three but i dont care. actually i think some mascaras work better after time and this is definetly one of them. easier to build and less smudging. and if i still have plenty left and it works, why am i going to throw it away especially since i paid 30 dollars?!? but yeah if you have money to blow, try it out otherwise, i dont think its THAT worth it, but its still pretty good
