I have gone through about 6-7 jars of this and still have a love/hate relationship with it like others have also mentioned.
What I like: I have combo/clog-prone skin which is also prone to dryness but I can't use the TBS Vitamin E Day cream due to the lanolin (makes my skin react, possibly allergic) so I started using the night version - it's a pretty good option for dry skin that cannot tolerate lanolin or for those who would rather not use it. Leaves skin very soft and glow-y. Great before applying make-up when my skin is being a flake-fest. Lovely slathered on thick overnight too. I feel like this fixes the flakies faster than most other creams I have tried and makes my skin feel comfortable again, without causing breakouts.
What I don't like: I wish it were unfragranced, and the worst thing is the horrible jar packaging. It's not like it's super thick, so instead of degrading quickly in a jar, I'm not sure why TBS can't be bothered to put this in a tube. Also, that way when you go to buy it, you can be sure no one stuck their grime-covered fingers into the jar (I have seen people doing this in the store -eww).
I'm not sure if I would repurchase, I like how it makes my skin feel - but Vanicream and Embryolisse makes my skin soft as well, and come in a huge pump bottles without all the annoyances of the jar packaging.
I would love to but this product again and again of only I could afford to. The cream really moisturise my skin and make it baby soft. Best night cream I've ever used. Ps. I have dry and sensitive skin which make it hard to find a good moisturiser :(
I got this half off especially since the day moisturizer worked so well for me. Unfortunately this was very thick and left my skin looking pretty oily..which was my first time since I have dry skin. I suspect it also broke me out around my upper lip area. I'm trying to use less of this or mix it with another moisturizer so it'll leave it with a less oily face and also because I have a few starter sizes and a full-size of this left.
On the plus side: This is a good moisturizer for normal-to-dry skin in "average" weather. I have skin that is a little on the dry side, but still breaks out occasionally, and I found this moisturized well but did not aggravate my acne. Also, I found the price very reasonable, for what is a decently-sized container of an effective product. While I doubt it would be moisturizing enough in the depths of winter, it's definitely sufficient for everyday use in mild weather. It's not performing any anti-aging miracles, but my skin feels soft and hydrated in the morning.
However, for me it has one, deal-breaking, major drawback--the smell. For whatever reason, I didn't really smell it in the store when I bought it, which was a big mistake. The smell reminds me of the kind of synthetic perfume that might be used in a drugstore baby product. It's very off-putting (especially for something you're going to put on your face), and for that reason alone, I don't see myself re-purchasing, despite this being a well-performing and reasonably-priced product.
My rating is actually 3.5...
I like this product, it does what it says and leaves my face wonderfully smooth and soft when I wake up. After semi-regular use, I've found it's given my face a more even skin tone too. My skin actually feels healthier with it on, maybe it's the vitamin E label giving me that impression?
One and a half lippies off for three reasons:
1) It wasn't moisturizing enough for the dry patches I got during winter. After a night of it on, it seemed like the unaffected parts of my face absorbed the cream, but the dry patches stayed dry (gross).
2) While the rose scent is lovely (and I would love it in a day cream), it's way too strong for the night. Something about going to bed heavily perfumed bothers me.
3) It's expensive. I only use a finger dollop of it each time, so I don't see myself running out of it soon. However, I would have never bought and tried this cream if it wasn't on sale.
So, honestly? It's been almost 8 years I have been using this product religiously and have never had any issues/complains/2nd thoughts over it.
I have a combination skin with no major or even minor problems as I have been using this night cream every single night and YES I did have issues with my skin before using this product (very dry skin) and with time I started getting compliments that my skin has changed and glows! As soon as u apply it you can see the glow instantly, its not greasy or sticky like other night creams usually are. It smells very much like other VITAMIN E products, a little more concentrated may be? Since I started using this one.. I never went back to those greasy cold creams with over powering scents!
I am a huge fan of Body Shop!
I love and hate this product. I love it because it definitely moisturizes my face and the fragrance isn't too strong. I hate it because it is a little too oily and broke me out. It's definitely thicker than the day moisturizer which has a more gel-like texture.
It's an alright product but ever since reading up on just how detrimental jar packaging is to the ingredients in creams I won't be repurchasing and I highly recommend anyone seeking a moisturiser or night cream to only purchase ones packaged in tubes or airless pump bottles. As a night cream, it's nothing special and is probably only good for the driest of skin types. I'm a normal-combination skin type who is prone to dry patches in certain parts of my face and honestly, no matter what part of my face this cream was applied to, it didn't really seem to absorb like most moisturisers and creams I've used and just sat on top like I'd just completed a shift at a fast food restaurant. Not pretty.
Again, it's not the worst moisturiser/night cream in the world but it's pretty basic for what it costs and whatever beneficial Vitamin E exists in this is going to be destabilised from the moment you open the lid to actually use it.
This is the night cream i keep coming back to. It makes my skin sooooo soft! The trick with this product is you only need a tiny tiny amount. If you slather it on, it will be greasy and awful and i can see how people could hate it if they did use too much. Just a very small amount all over my face is perfect, and it means that one jar lasts a very long time. It does not cause my skin to break out like most night creams do. It has helped with reducing my scars over time. It helps soothe my sensitive skin and hydrate it without being too heavy. I just love it. Whenever i try another night cream i end up coming back to this one every time.
I have dry, sensitive skin. I thought this cream would be perfect for me, but it really burned when on my skin (the fragrance didn't help...). It looked great, and I was excited to try it out, but I couldn't get through it. It also made my skin sweat really bad (in winter)- that was a weird feeling. I kept wiping sweat from my upper lip and forehead.
This may be good for people who can handle a thick, fragrant moisturizer, but I can't imagine there's many people out there like that!
