I am not sure as to how well it aids in correcting one's skintone. As, this is a product that I dont' use all the time on my face. I use it sporadically. I like that it has sun protection in it, which is always a good thing. However, I find that it is not compatible underneath makeup. After wearing it for a while, it starts to make my face look rather shiny. Which is why, I can only wear it on days when I don't plan to wear any makeup.
Overall, I think that this is an okay product. It's just not one that I feel is an absolute must-have in my skincare regimen.
Background information: I am in my twenties and my main concern and reason for looking into the Clinique Even Better line was due to hyperpigmentation on my cheeks from serious acne a few years back. I have oily to combindation skin in the winter and oily skin in the summer.
I love this stuff! The cream is a white, pretty emollient cream that smooths over your skin quite easily. I find that immediately after applying, my skin looks fresh and moisturized, and--dare I say it?--glowing. From what I understand the ingredients that are used to lighten the dark spots on your face are in such low concentrations they don't even need to be identified as active ingredients, but Clinique's reasoning is so that you can use this moisturizer for a long period of time without serious adverse side effects.
This was the only hyperpigmentation/uneven skin tone correcting part of my skincare routine for a while (other than sunscreen, but I've worn that every day since I was about 12) and I have to say that while the results were slow and incremental, looking at photos from before I started using this moisturizer to now of my bare skin, I can notice a huge difference.
On one area of my cheek I had had recurrent acne, all of which had left severe red spots which one layer of foundation could not cover. I would say there were about eight to ten spots that I would not feel comfortable leaving the house unless I had concealed. However, after using this product, not only are the significant red marks reduced to just 4 (two of which are recent) these marks are easily covered by one layer of the same foundation, which is proof enough for me that this works.
However, this did not help control my oil but I didn't take off points for that, because it never claimed that it would. And as it is targeted towards a more mature population, I see the plumping and moisturizing aspects of this moisturizer as a benefit.
As much as I loved this product I am highly picky with what I deem 5-lippie products as those should be perfect in every way. I did take off one lippie because it is so expensive! For the money I was expecting miracles, and while I am very pleased with the results I can't say this product was a miracle. (It's pretty darn close though!)
CONSIDER IF:
- You have superficial (read: on the surface) hyperpigmentation on the skin
- Your skin is dry to normal
- You need a way to incorporate daily SPF into your regimen
SKIP BECAUSE:
- You need immediate results. This treatment takes a looong time to work.
- You want to reduce freckles from birth. I believe this wasn't intended for natural, born-with-'em freckles.
- Somewhat pricey

Love this product, use this along with my 3 step and my serum and i get the perfect skin that i could ever wish for.
Having had mild acne (combination oily) it made me realise could i get the skin that i always wanted. With Clinique i ended up so, yes it can be expensive but YOUR WORTH IT.
P.s my skin tone isn't a huge problem but your skin does look brighter and glow-full

This product was OK. I think it rivals only drugstore brands, really and is a bit overpriced. I have sensitive skin and I am half white, half Chinese. I have pretty blotchy skin on my cheeks, freckles, and some acne marks. I don't think this product really improved my skin tone and if it did it was very minimal. Yes, it was moisturizing and the SPF is decent, but it doesn't do what it says (even skin tone). One drawback is that it seemed to make my pores appear larger. I had better luck with Neutrogena Visibly Even in terms of changing the appearance of my skin.
This is one of my favorite products- any category, any brand. I never wear foundation or tinted moisturizer. So it is important to me that my skin looks its best because I don't cover it with anything, except a little concealer if necessary. I have been using this moisturizer off and on for two years now. And that is because it is a high-quality product that lives up to its claims. This actually does fade my acne marks and make my skin tone more even. I am big fan of Clinique in general, but this cream is one of their stand-out products.
I don't mind too much that it's in a jar, although a tube would be more hygenic of course. Also, I wish that Clinique made a version of this cream without the SPF. I don't care for the scent of the SPF and also it sometimes stings my eyes. Had to take off one lippie for that.
But I love that this cream is rich enough to use in the winter or as a night cream, but not so heavy that I can't use it in the summer or during the day. Versatile! And over time (it doesn't happen overnight), my complexion gradually becomes noticeably brighter and more even-toned.
I do see a difference in my skin when I'm using this vs. when I'm not. And that's why I will continue to buy this again and again.
I've been using Clinque's three step programme when I received Even Better as a sample. When using the product I noticed that previous sun spots became very pronounced. A Clinique sales rep said when she was using the Even Better Clinical Spot Corrector her pigmentation worsened but then improved. I was alarmed by my sun spots worsening that I did not want to take the risk of finding out if the product actually worked! I have since been using Estee Lauder's Illusionist and Advance Night serums which have been amazing. They have almost reversed the damage and appearance of the dark spots.
I got this as a GWP from Clinique and decided to try it out this week as it has a nice SPF in it and I am looking for a nice moisturizer with SPF at the moment. The first day that I used it everything was fine. The second day. ARGH! It burned. I applied it and then my makeup. As soon as I went outside and the sun hit it it started to burn. My eyes watered for a full hour before I had the chance to wash it all off. My eyes and the area under then is still very sore a day later.
This is what I use when I know I'll be exposed to sunlight for lengthy periods of time (ex. excerising outside, poolside, etc). It's thick and creamy and truly does moisurize well. It's fragrance and dye free.
I haven't really noticed my skin tone being more even after using it for months. However, I do notice that it REALLY blocks sunrays well enough to prevent tanning.
Due to my oily skin I do not use on a daily basis (ex. under makeup to the office) because it is too thick and I fear it would cause break outs due to consistency and SPF.
Also, I'm a tan-skined AA (NC 42 ish) and it does leave a slight white cast on my skin so I wouldn't use if I know I'm going to be in pictures.
Overall, a good product that does what I need it to do.
I'm confused about the low reviews. It seems that this product does not work well with oily skin...
I have very dry skin and my skin has never looked better. I was at first inconsistent with this product and did not see results. I was thinking about returning it but I gave it another shot fully committed. Within the last 3 weeks, I have been using it every morning after I wash my face and my skin tone has improved dramatically that I can go out without foundation with confidence. Family, friends, and my boyfriend all still think I am wearing foundation when I'm not wearing anything at all. My skin feels smoother, looks healthy and even, and the product is very lightweight--not greasy at all.
I was born with freckles and was told this would not help me in this area. I do have extra new freckles from the sun. These have not disappeared but have diminished in color.
I love this product. It's worth the money in the long run because a little bit on your face goes a long way. I expect this to last me a couple of months.
