DermAppeal Microdermabrasion Treatment

I was very surprised to see all the great reviews on this, I’m guessing that people are not aware of what certain types of skin care products can do to your skin. This reminds me of the St. Ives Apricot Scrub that everyone used to use where you’re literally scrubbing your face with ground up apricot pits! The minty smell doesn’t bother me but if the the “crystals” were just a little bit smaller and more uniform I can see this being better for your skin. I will keep mine, but will be using it for arms and legs as it should be.

This is your toner step in your Dimitri James NON-NEGOTIABLES Skinn care regimen. It is to be used after cleansing with your Olive & Enzyme PM cleansing butter/balm, and after your DERMAPPEAL exfoliant, it is a beautifully silky hydrating essence for you skin, it leaves skin cushiony soft and just beautifully hydrated. There is no sticky or tacky residue, just beautifully moisturised skin. The hydrogen enriched extracts make this a major hydration boost, even using this alone is sure to be hydrating enough, I then followed this with the appropriate serum and day cream with SPF! SPF is something Dimitri James surprisingly does not make so venture out a good quality sunblock from the drugstore like Neutrogena or Oil of Olay, or resort like I do mostly to Paula's Choice. This essence is jam packed with lots of wonderfully beneficial ingredients, unlike most toners it is not filled with witch hazel and drying alcohol, but actual science backed researched ingredients proven to make a visible difference in skin. There is a light fragrance but I am sure it is due to the wonderful plant and fruit extracts and not synthetic fragrance as I did not see fragrance listed on the ingredient list. It is definitely a must have and just as concentrated as traditional skin care serums, so you will be boosting your entire regimen with this prehydrate lotion! Thank you Dimmi! I definitely recommend this product!

DermAppeal Microdermabrasion Treatment

This is a review for the famous DermAppeal® Microdermabrasion Treatment With VC5 Crystal Technology by Skinn Dimitri James of Palm Springs California. This is one of Skinn by Dimitri James most famous products. Lo and Behold his famous DermAppeal! This used to be packaged in a jar but is now transferred to a tube after complaints of too many customers getting the product wet inside the jar, I prefer the jar since it is very difficult to squeeze this thick paste out of the thin tube it comes in. Also I don't know why they reduced the size to two 57ml products when you could have double the product in one jar like before???? Anyway this is a very harsh way to exfoliate the skin. I am playing with fire here and might be attacked by followers of Skinn but this is simply too harsh for me. If you have any true knowledge of how the skin needs to be gently taken care of you would not use or cease to use this product immediately. This product may be fine for refining rough skin on the feet, knees and elbows or back but certainly not for delicate facial skin. The use of this product on your face is akin to assault. Whilst the formula is free of "professional" aluminum oxide crystals (works more efficiently in a proper microdermabrasion machine and setting by the way), it exfoliates skin with baking soda(far too alkaline), porous rock like Zeolite, Polylactic Acid and Vitamin C crystals, the result is a visibly uneven almost grainy texture that is sure to cause micro lacerations on the skin, ouch! not good! Whilst there are many many reviews absolutely lauding this product this review is not one of them. First of all as soon as I applied this to my skin in the shower, I was absolutely shocked to feel the icy cold sensation this slaps skin with! This is again from the overinclusion and overabundance of menthol and peppermint oil in the formula! What was Dimitri thinking?! No one needs to use a facial exfoliant this harsh or shocking to skin, I could not even leave it on longer than the recommended time frame since the cooling sensation was far too icy and irritating. I'm not exaggerating here, please do try it for yourself once and you will see what :I mean. Instructions are to use this 1-2 times per week, overkill, something like this needs only to be done once a week, not twice! The formula while generous and leaves skin feeling soft (Dimitri added lots of plant oils, butters and extracts, my guess is to *buffer* the harshness of the exfoliant) and smooth, it is simply not worth the risk of potentially damaging skin something awful. Magnesium Oxide is included to make you feel like your getting some special Hungarian Thermal treatment when no it's just the chemical reaction with water that causes that temporary intense warming sensation( no benefits with this too by the way). Contains Papain and Bromelain for enzyme exfoliation and also 5 types of Vitamin C for visible brightening. I did notice immediate brightening of the skin so I will give it that. However all in all I just feel this is far too much for anyone's skin type whether your normal, oily and especially sensitive! Far too much irritating essential oils, too much fragrance, far too much menthol and peppermint and uneven coarse grainy exfoliant pieces that are more likely to cut and scratch skin than exfoliate it evenly. I would not recommend this product.
