I bought this a little while ago now (as you can see in my picture, it's gotten a lot of love!) and it seems there is a huge love-hate relationship with Aesop's Rosehip Seed Lip Cream.
Let's start with the positives. This really does what is says: it will hydrate your lips and will soften them- and it smells nice :D. I find that this product is perfect to use just before applying lip liners/lipsticks/plumpers/stains etc because it almost acts as a 'shield' against drying lip products (ie matte lippies) and also before you go to bed. Now onto how much you apply- this is an important note: a little (and I mean a *very* little amount) of this product goes a long way; if you use too much of this, it will feel icky on your lips. Your lips might feel a little 'dry' (as in not a glossy feeling- if that makes sense!) after application- the reason for this is this isn't meant to 'stick around' on your lips; this product will melt into them and nourish them. The lady who sold me this told me that you shouldn't be constantly reapplying this, or really any other lip product because that will actually cause your lips to start to dry out (I tested this theory out for a week of constantly applying glosses and lipsticks more than I needed to and she was right, my lips were much more prone to drying and feeling icky).
The negative of this product -the packaging- really does let down how good the lip cream is :( It is in a little metal tube format and I find that (especially in warmer weather), when you open the cap, this will pour out, giving you way too much product and wasting it. So you have to work quickly when you open it ;) I also find that if you take the little product you need and apply pressure to the tip with your finger and close it, this helps the product not spill out. Also, I find if you refrigerate this for a small amount of time that will stop the product wastage- but really the whole process is a little impractical and not to mention annoying :P
Will I buy this product again? Yes because the product itself is amazing, but it would be good if they modified the packaging.

Terrible packaging! The moment you open the tube-even if you're holding it vertically-it starts pouring out! Feels lovely, but I wouldn't buy a product this wasteful again.

Overall, I didn't like this product. Despite the light creamy texture, it does nothing to moisturise the lips, in fact, it's probably as good as licking your lips. My lips were dry again about a minute later! The smell is moderately strong and while it's a citrusy sort of smell, it reminds me too much of hairspray smell. I don't find the sharp citrusy taste pleasant either on the lips. I guess the positive points about this is the packaging (I like the tube packaging with the scientific-looking label) and the cream texture. Am just glad I got this as a gift and didn't pay money for this.

I got this today on recommendation from the SA at MAC. I suffer from chapped, peeling lips and my goodness, this Lip Treatment is a God send! The minute I applied it, the peeling skin melted away and it's so good I use it as a base for my new MAC lipstains! My lips feel so soft and this beats Vaseline and 8 Hour Cream anyday! It is rather dear (AUD15 for 6ml) so I'll just use it when I need to.

I had been looking forward to trying this product for a long time (Aesop is hard to get in my area). Unfortunately, I cannot say I like it! First, it was liquid by the time I got it inside the house due to the summer heat, so this definitely can't be carried in the purse or pocket. After cooling it down in the fridge, I let it come to room temperature. The product separated into two parts, one still very liquidy, the other thicker. I mixed it all together, but I shouldn't have to go to so much trouble and mess. So before even applying it, I was aggravated. After applying it, I wasn't any happier. This stuff has a terrible smell, a fume-y smell like bathroom cleanser, and I usually have no problems with Aesop's natural smells. It is very greasy, sliding off the lips onto my face and into my mouth. Even when I tried using very little, it ended up all over the place. I definitely don't advise trying to use this under lipstick. If you can get past the smell and the greasy texture, it does make your lips soft after wearing it overnight. But the sensitivity to heat, the mess, and the smell really turn me off. I won't be purchasing this one again.

Got a small pot as birthday present. It's got a nice bitter orange smell (not too sweet), and contains neither petroleum nor beeswax (yay!). It is harder to keep though, as it tends to melt away in summer. I use it at night since I don't want to risk having it melt away in my bag (now I live in a tropical country). This is great! I wake up with great lips when I use this product at night. Using the Tuberose lip heal during the day as it's easier to carry around and won't melt away. If you do want to buy it, buy it in a pot - it's a hassle to apply but the result is worth it.

This was about $11 or 12AUD when I purchased from Mecca Cosmetica in Sydney in around 2003.
The texture is quite similar to the MMU lipbalms, feels just like shea butter based (though even softer) and can get a bit too soft in summer. It applies smoothly due to the little bit more greasy texture, leaves a bit of shine as it melts on the lips, but becareful not to leave it in your pocket in summer since it does melt in the tube. The tube packaging isn't that nice, practical though.
The scent is rosehip and some sort of herby scent, I don't particular like it.
I gave it a low rating because it didn't really make my lips that supple, or helped with moisturising, but I actually developed some sort of allergy around lips after using this. continued >>

Wow. Love this. Smells great and hydrates well. (My lips get dry and paper-y).
Just wish it were less pricey. - But you get what you pay for and with Aesop - you get alot. (And good ingredients.)

Smelled a little funny the first few times I used it, but I still lik it. The only thing is that it melts easily.

This is a lip balm for chapped and dry lips in a tube form. This really works, takes overnight for it to "repair" my chapped lips! I find it expensive considering its AUD 13 (approx) for 3.8 gm. This item is supposedly made up entirely of essential oils (no wax), thus accounting for the strong fragrance (cant tell what it is) and how easily it melts (the lip balm melts when it touches your lips)...I keep mine in the fridge until I need it (you have to store it under 21 degrees). I think I would repurchase but do test if interested in purchasing as the fragrance and taste (slight orangey) takes some use getting too.

I love this product more than any other color free lip balm I've used. Seems to really absorb. It's like applying a light oil. Not sticky or waxy. Lovely product which I enjoy more with time. Have given as stocking stuffers to people who probably don't get it. Pricey. Environmentally and socially conscious.

After waiiiting for ages for this to come back in stock, i finally bought it. It looks like a chapstick but doesnt feel like one. It feels as if im rubbing a light oil on my lips, and goes on really lightly ( it is by no means heavy or gloopy). Even though its oily its not greasy and has a light lavender scent to it. I find it very moisturising, but have yet to try it with really dry lips to see if it really does the job or not.

I love a good lip balm, but for me this one was a big disappointment. Too oily by far. I feel like I'm eating it rather than wearing it. As soon as I apply it, my mouth feels oily inside. I've never had this problem with other lip balms. I'm sticking to the Burt's, and Bloom.

I love this lip balm to bits! First of all, it smell soooo delicious! I feel it was a bit oily the first time I applied, but it's not like other lipbalms that made me feel like putting on cooking oil (you know what I mean), it made my lips feel soft and smooth! It melted into lips that I feel WHOA, NIceeeee!! And you definitely have to check this out if you're in Australia, it's AU$11.50, worth every cent I've paid. I remember that I spent AU$42 for the Lancome Vinefit Levres, which I liked until I find this Aesop Rosehip seed Lip treatment. However, if you're looking to heal chapped lips, it won't help much I'm afraid. continued >>

Very different to all the other lip balms I've tried because it's not creamy or waxy or sticky. It's basically putting essential oils on your lips (I think). It smells like lavender and it's quite overpowering!! Depending on the person, that may or may not be a good thing, but for me it's alright. My lips tend to peel or flake after a lip balm has faded off my mouth, but this hasn't done it to me so far. I haven't used it on very chapped lips so I don't know how it would work for that, but when my lips have been slightly dry, this has worked better for me than Chapstick. I like that it is in a stick, and I also like the rough texture because it feels like it's smoothing my lips. It tends to melt though! Price was AU$11 for 0.16oz or 3.8gm.

This is a really nice lip balm. It's packaged a bit like a chapstick, in Aesop's signature dark brown, but the consistency is very different - it's almost like rubbing a light oil on your lips rather than a wax. The scent is natural and pleasant, & kind of nutty (maybe from the almond oil). It's not quite moisturising enough for my very dry lips in winter, but is still good to have in my handbag for preventative maintenance during the day.
Update: as the above reviewer mentioned, this stuff has a really low melting temperature. I learned this the hard way by leaving my tube in a bag on the beach. It resets after it liquifies, but crystalises a bit & is impossible to get out of the tube. Am now on rosehip seed lip treatment #2. continued >>
