I got this with a barrel diameter of about 4.5 inches because I have very long hair and was looking for a brush to use when I do blowdry (not all the time--I'm still a bit of a klutz at it) in order to get volume at the roots. This brush performs admirably, in my opinion, though admittedly, it's my very first round brush. The bristles are a mix of boar and synthetic and are gentle on my scalp, not scratchy or rough. They grab my hair nicely without snarling or tearing at it and leave a glossy finish (probably because this is tourmaline-charged). The handle is comfortable to grip and the whole thing seems well-made and sturdy. I got this at a local beauty supply store for about 1/3 of the cost of the T3 Micro, which I'd been considering, and am very happy. I would repurchase this brush if I had to.
