This product felt great when on, loved the ingredient safety and consistency of the sunscreen. However it is really hard to remove and I break out without fail every time I use it, as well as have dry, white flakes on my skin. Maybe if a moisturizer was used underneath, as suggested, it would mitigate this but as someone who does not like using a lot of products, and breaks out just from touching my face, I will probably not repurchase.

Lovely zinc-based SPF for the face. I used this throughout the fall and winter - it is drying and requires something underneath, either a serum or an oil (I used a few drops of Jurlique Skin Balancing Face Oil before applying this SPF). Goes on quite clear, which is great if you are used to natural sunscreens that leave you looking rather ghastly. Wonderful product!

Pros (for me): physical, not chemical; natural, minimalist approach (only 6-7 ingredients), no preservatives, not silicone-based, scent, seems to plump up the skin temporarily, does not sting on delicate retin-a skin, micro-, not nano-sized particles although I'm not sure about nanotechnology safety,
Cons: very oily consistency, difficult to diminish shine with powder, price for shipping, causes breakouts on my trouble area (chin), some reviews cite less-than-expected sun protection although I don't use it when outside so I can't personally comment.
I will probably buy this again after I finish the two bottles I bought. If my skin ever stop being acne-prone, I would consider using this all over my face because of its plumping effect!

I have oily skin that gets extremely dry during winter. I bought this sunscreen in January and when I first applied it, it felt really nice. It was not greasy at all; it made my skin feel silky smooth and moisturized. But by the late afternoon, it started to dry my skin and at the same time very sticky. Near mouth my skin was flaking and T-zone area felt sticky. When I washed my face in the evening, the stickiness was difficult to take off. But all these problems were tolerable if it didn't break me out. It clogged my pore pretty bad by the end of the week and I spent some painful time to make them gone. My search for a perfect sunscreen continues.

This is my favorite face sunblock for fall and winter. It is more moisturizing than my fave in the summer, Mychelle Sun Shield, and is more cosmetically elegant to boot. Although people have said to buy the body one because it gives you more for a lower price, I decided to try the face one first since I wasn't sure I would like it. It is pretty expensive for what you get but my motto is, if it works, it's worth it!
The rose scent is strong when you put it on, but dissipates after awhile. This sunblock doesn't feel like a physical sunblock going on. It feels like a chemical one because it glides on so smoothly and easily. I just use one squirt for the entire face. The result is a slight sheen that you need to cover up with powder. The moisturizing factor is definitely there - you can feel it sink into your skin rather than sit on top of it.
The only issue I have with this, and the reason why I do not use it in the summer, is that I am concerned about how well it protects. I know other reviewers have mentioned some evidence of darkening while using it. I myself had just recently lasered off some freckles from my face, just to have some of them come back while using this. However, I don't know whether to blame the sunblock since freckles are notoriously stubborn and sometimes do come back regardless.

Great product but you must use it with 6-8 months. Shipping is extremely high from this company. And, if you have a reaction to anything, you have to pay for return shipping, hence you lose a lot in shipping. I also tried the Herbal Hair Cleanser and it was a nightmare - itching scalp for 3 days. I had to keep washing my air with Neutrogena Menthol Itch Shampoo. They didn't care.

This is my HG Sunscreen and I have tried them all on my fair, acne-prone combination skin. This one uses coated micronized zinc oxide and has a minimum of extraneous ingreds. Contains no preservative. If used as directed and reapplied every 2 hours or after swimming or sweating I dont get any burn or color.
I use Neem Vetiver (body version) because it is 4 oz for $26 - a more economical option and the same formula essentially. It never bothers my skin and in fact makes a nice moisturizer in the summer - not greasy or matte. <333
My only gripe is that the company charges an exorbitant fee for shipping ($10 for 2 bottles within USA???? come on!) And they dont ship internationally.
This answer in regard to the type of zinc oxide that they use:
"Thank you for your interest in the PRATIMA Skincare line!
Our Neem Rose Face Sunscreen SPF30 has coated zinc oxide, which is not photoreactive and therefore no free radicals are produced. The same applies to our Neem Vetiver Body Sunscreen SPF30.
Please let us know if you have any additional questions.
Thanks again,
PRATIMA Skincare" continued >>

This sunscreen is wonderful! I can use it on my rosacea-prone, eczema-prone, extremely sensitive skin without problem; in fact, it actually improves the quality of my skin. I am in love with the Pratima line and this sunscreen is no exception!

Wanted to like it, because of it's simple and straightforward ingredients, but it's a major FAIL on my skin. It smells lovely (think mild rose absolute) and has a nice dewy/natural finish on skin that doesn't turn greasy/shiny/oily on my skin. It's quite thin texture-wise. Also for a zinc based sunscreen it's quite transparent, not exactly clear and shows on skin a bit when applied in correct amount (2 mg/cm^2), but it's got a slight neutral tint that covers up the whiteness most of the time. So far so good. But it stung on my skin, around eyes, nose, lips, every time I applied it it stung/burned a bit. Not good. Pratima NR also gave me a nasty reaction after 30% glycolic peel. I used Burnout Eco-Sensitive sunscreen next day after the peel, and Pratima the day after Burnout. Burnout: no reaction. Pratima: burned crazier than the acid itself and turned skin red. Also I doubt the protection/photo-stability of it, because it made me 0.5 shade darker in one week, which is an indication that UVA protection didn't happen. I blame that and the burning/stinging sensation to the fact they use uncoated micronized zinc in Pratima and that one is more reactive on skin and less photo-stable than bulk zinc (which is virtually indestructible by UV rays) or coated micronized zinc. One more major minus - Pratima isn't sweat or water resistant at all, slightest splash and it runs off skin in a white drop. So it's very flawed and unacceptable sunscreen with a nice scent and finish.

(Overall rating: 4, Price: 4, Packaging: 5, Repurchase: No)
I started using the Pratima Neem Rose sunscreen on October 29, 2010, so I've been using it everyday for 3.5 months. During those 3.5 months, I went off on a cruise to the Caribbeans and used this as my primary sunscreen. Being how my skin was fair and I was using acne products to prevent acne, I was prone to sensitivity to the sun. It turns out that this sunscreen did -not- protected me well from the sun and I came home with a rather deep, reddish tan. But what's more, the old scar that I had on the left side of my face from 4 years ago darkened. This scar was only a hyperpigmentation mark from an incident years ago, and was unnoticeable before my trip. After my trip, I can really see its outline, and this really upsetted me. To the reader, this may not seem like a fair review since SPF 30 from any brand wouldn't have protected me from the Caribbean sun anyhow. However, after coming back from my trip, I came back to southern Louisiana (which is considered to have a subtropical climate---that's what they say, anyway; I'm not a native of LA to really make a judgement). Months went by, and there have been days of sunshine at mid-70's, and my scar was getting more apparent. I finally decided to move on to a more protective sunscreen before it gets any warmer.
Pros:
- Light cream, spreads easily (thicker than the liquid Japanese sunscreens I'm used to, but since it spreads easily, I let it pass)
- Not heavy or greasy
- Doesn't pill
- No white cast
- Doesn't irritate or dry out my skin (could feel hydrating for oily skintypes, in a comfortable way)
- Doesn't cause any irritation, break-outs, or acne
- Convenient, travel-friendly size and pump
- Affordable ($18.00 for 2fl oz/60ml)
- All-natural (which is great for a sunscreen when you're in the heat and [accidentically] baking in it. I learned that you wouldn't want to bake with chemicals on your skin; doing so would run you the risk of skin cancer).
Cons:
- Doesn't protect me well in the sun (resulted with redness and a dark tan. Scar from 4 years ago darkened, that was unnoticeable before)
- Not easily accessible
- I did noticed a slight sheen after a few hours if I don't powder. This may be a con for someone with truly oily skin, but not really for me since my skin leans more towards the drier side. Just wanted to point this out.
Summary:
All in all, the Pratima sunscreen -is- indeed a good sunscreen if you're looking for an all-natural alternative. It has never broken me out or clog my pores. The formula itself has never irritated my skin; in fact, I've been using the rest of the bottle as sunscreen for my eyes. I have sensitive eyes and the Pratima sunscreen doesn't bother them at all. The price is fair for the quality that you get. It is a bit of hassle to get, though, since you'll have to order from their website if you're not near one of their spa locations. The main reason why I won't continue using this product is because it didn't protected me from the sun. I've used other products with SPF 30 before and this sunscreen didn't come up to par with the others. It simply didn't function as a sunscreen as well as it should. For my fair skin, which tends to burn and darken in the sun (along with that scar), I have special needs that has needs tending to. This sunscreen is more for people who have no problems such as mine.
Ingredients: IONIZED WATER, NON-NANO MICRONIZED ZINC OXIDE 18.6%, ORGANIC EXTRACTS OF NEEM, BRAHMI, SHATAVARI, LICORICE, WHEAT GERM OIL, VITAMIN E, LECITHIN, ORGANIC ESSENTIAL OIL OF ROSE, XANTHAN GUM.
Reference: I have normal-dry, sensitive, acne-prone skin. I'm fair and use acne products, so I'm prone to more sensitivity and burning in the sun. I live in an subtropical climate so sun protection is a must.

Skintype: sensitive, rosacea, combo, very prone to clogged pores. Generally use Elta Physical or Arcona Reozone as my sunscreen but this winter my skin has become extremely dehydrated so I wanted to try something more moisturizing. It is a bit greasy on my t-zone which I need to powder over. All of the other more emollient ss I tried clogged my pores but not this one. So I gave this 5 stars because in addition to being a sunscreen it also has other skin benefits.. it reduces redness, makes my skin look more even-toned and clear. My undereye dark circles even look better. I'm assuming it's the licorice which my sensitive skin loves (licorice is an anti-inflammatory and also has skin lightening capabilities). I just hate that you can only get this from the Pratima website because they charge about $10 for shipping, and I'm in NY state so I have to pay tax as well - so for an $18 bottle of sunscreen I end up paying over $30. Also, with my order, they sent 2 samples (they just send whatever, I don't think you can request anything specific) - I got samples of the Rare Earth Mask and Amla Collagen moisturizer. Love the moisturizer, I may order some.. however the mask really irritated my skin. Not sure what happened with the review below mine - the one I have is smooth and liquidy, applies easily like moisturizer. She did get it in a swap and maybe it was older than 3 months..this has no preservatives and has to be used within 6-8 months.

First a short disclaimer that its possible I received a bottle that was expired or something else. I did receive this item in a swap, however that MUA said she had only had it for 3 months so I'm not sure. Maybe we got a "defective" formula because all of the reviews here seem to be unanimously good.
Here is my opinion on trying my first bottle of this. I have used the product for about 3 months and these are the positives: 1) scent....smells light, not overpowering but nice 2) packaging...really love the packaging, easy to travel with and a perfect size IMO 3) ingredients...my skin did not break out at all with this and I love that it is all natural.
However, the biggest negative for me is the application of the sunscreen is very difficult. It doesn't absorb quickly and smears on my face. The formula was thick; because of this I have to rub it into my face instead of just smoothing it on. Because of this is also takes much longer to apply. In the beginning I wasn't using it with an essential oil before but then I realized in the instructions it said to do that. When I used an essential oil I found it to be easier to apply but I still had the problem where the sunscreen smeared on instead of soaking in easily to my skin. Another big negative is that it was very sticky. For me it always seems like it was sitting on my skin as a barrier but never absorbing....my boyfriend hated this because ever time he touched my face it was sticky. And this stickiness lasted several hours...which was weird.
I read the other reviews on here and everyone else seems to love it so much which has led me to question that I received a "defective" bottle. Anyway I definitely think each person should try it for themselves but just wanted to share my OWN experience with it. Again, its highly possible that I just received a bad item because Pratima does seem to have a very good reputation.

I think I may have found "the one." It sinks into my skin without leaving a weird oily residue. It moisturizes without feeling too heavy. My face doesn't turn red or sunburned, indicating it's doing it's sunscreen job. It smells pleasant. It actually has an anti-inflammatory skin lightening agent in it, too (the licorice) which I was looking for. And it's healing/treatment for my acne with the neem extract in it, too. And best of all, it's all natural, no chemical sunscreens. I'm even iffy about Titanium Dioxide in my sunscreen, and love that this uses just Zinc Oxide as the sunscreen part, which actually protects against UVA and UVB. I can now understand why people below have indicated they're on their 2nd or 3rd bottle! I plan to update if it causes me any problems after a month or so. I didn't give 5 stars basically because I don't really give anything 5 stars... but this is as close to perfect of a sunscreen that I've ever tried yet. It's quite pricey but worth it, in my opinion. ***UPDATE*** Even though they have wheat germ oil into their formulation, which is a known comedogenic ingredient, I don't seem to have any problems so far with it. At first when I saw the updated list on their website, I got a little upset, but then I contacted them and asked them why they are including it. They informed me that it has always been in the formulation as Vitamin E, but they just wanted to let their customers know the source of the vitamin E.

This is the best natural sunscreen I have found for my sensitive skin. My acne also gets better when using this sunscreen because of the neem oil in is antibacterial. The rose scent is delightful. Nothing to complain. I am continuing on my third bottle and will continue to use it.

I have been using this product for about 3 months now, and have gone through 3 bottles, so this averages obviously about a bottle a month for me (I am pretty religious about sunscreen, so there ya go). The sunscreen is a zinc oxide-based physical sunscreen, SPF 30, packaged in a cute little 2 fl. oz aluminum bottle with a very sanitary pump to dispense the sunscreen. The ingredients, respectfully, are: **Ionized water, Micronized Zinc Oxide, Extracts of Neem, Brahmi, Shatavari, Licorice, Vitamin E, Lecithin, Rose essential oil, xanthan gum.**
This is probably the best physical sunscreen I have ever used. I receive ZERO breakouts from it, and this is even when I reapply it. It doesn't irritate my skin. It doesn't sting or bother my eyes, and I believe it does a pretty great job of mattifying my oily skin during the day. Like any sunscreen (especially physical ones), when applied correctly and in the appropriate amount, it leaves a slight sheen and whiteness to my face when first applied. The whiteness fades gradually, but the sheen usually stays unless I sit around for about an hour doing nothing (don't know why this could be). Let me be clear: I did mention that it mattified my oily skin, but it does in fact leave a slight sheen on my face. The difference for me is that my skin glows with the sheen from the sunscreen, which of course is because of the zinc oxide (I noticed when I was at the beach that my skin had a golden, shimmery sheen to it), whereas accumulated oil on my face just looks wet. I would rather look glowy than wet!! :) I have not burned or received any color on my face or neck with the use of this product...which of course is what I expected it to do! I only wish that this product came in larger bottles. I purchased my bottles for $18 each. Definitely recommended for anyone looking for a more natural, non-chemical sunscreen!

This is one of my favorite facial sunscreens. It is a zinc oxide based product but does not leave any whitecast and can be used on the face daily. It can feel a little sticky though, but overall a terrific product. It does not cause any breakouts. I am on my second bottle, and like the first reviewer said, there is a noticeable difference between the consistency of each batch. The product in the second bottle is definitely thicker than the first bottle I used. I tried the vetiver sunscreen. It is similar to the pratima neem rose but I didn't care for it simply due to the fragrance.

I have used three bottles of this sunscreen already. The sunscreen in the first bottle I received had a nice smooth face lotion texture, but for the last two bottles I've ordered, the sunscreen is thicker, stickier and more whitening so I'm not sure if they reformulated this sunscreen. However, even with the new formula, I find that this sunscreen is the only one that does not irritate my skin or cause any breakouts. I also think the whitening effect is very mild and actually makes my skin look a little more even. The stickiness is a problem and it can feel unpleasant on the skin, but I believe it gives the sunscreen more staying power and it is bearable. I want to try the vetiver sunscreen next, which is advertised as a body sunscreen, but contains similar ingredients. I love that Pratima products don't have any unnecessary ingredients in them. I have sensitive skin and this is the best sunscreen I've ever used!
UPDATE: I also bought the Vetiver body sunscreen and found it to be just like the face lotion, but with a vetiver essential oil scent. I actually rather like the scent of the body sunscreen and am using it on my face.
