This was the first toner I have used that had a strong alcohol base. I have oily skin, and this product aggravated my skin by over-drying it. Normally I have very minor breakouts, but I ended up with extremely oily skin, clogged / irritated / enlarged pores, and major breakouts. I used this product for almost two months.
Because of my experience with this toner, I would not recommend this to people with oily skin, and especially not to people with dry skin since its results could be even more devastating. Actually, I would not recommend this to anyone.

I used this on my face after cleansing and ran out the door without my normal face makeup (I was late for work). By the end of the day (I work outside), my face was an oil slicked nightmare.
I used it again a few days later after cleansing and applied my normal face products, and by the end of the day, the same thing happened.
I couldn't believe my face could get that oily. It has never been like this. I will not re-purchase it.

This is a so-so product for me. I didn't feel like it did anything particularly wonderful for me, nor did it do anything bad. I liked the smell of fresh vined tomatos, but there was a lot of alcoholy-smells, too.

A lot of people are put off by the fact that SD Alcohol 40 is listed as a second ingredient, but this is what I found out about SD Alcohol 40 on dermadoctor.com:
Alcohol SD-40: sometimes listed as SD Alcohol 40 and synomymous with alcohol SDA-40, it is a high grade purified cosmetic alcohol. Evaporates instantly, so it is used as a vehicle to transport important ingredients to the skin's surface and then leave them there; gentler to the skin than ethyl (rubbing) alcohol. May help kill bacteria.
the alcohol's main purpose is to help the good ingredients in this toner, like the green tea, cucumber, orange and lemon extracts into the skin. It can be a little drying to those with sensitive skin, but for my combination, oily, acne prone skin, this product works very well. I took a lippie off because the fragrance is a little bit overwhelming (I try to stay away from fragrances at all but I love burts bees products and know that their fragrance is derived naturally instead of being parfum, which is irritating to my sensitive skin). Overall, good product, and don't let the alcohol scare you away from trying it out!

I bought this item a long time ago, and I don't remember whether I returned it or poured it down the drain. Anyways, I was re-reading reviews on this product and decided to give it another try. Turns out, there's a reason why I didn't use this product before and I should've stuck to it.
The smell is herb-y, but there is also a strong alcohol smell. I use this toner after I wash with the Burt's Bees Acne Cleanser, then follow with the lotion. My face is pretty oily, and before I started using the toner, the cleanser + lotion work just fine (maybe a bit towards the oily side). So I thought, hey maybe the toner will balance the oiliness. But with the addition of this toner, my face becomes too dry that it's itchy. At the end, the toner is once again a waste of money. I poured it down the drain and my sink smells good for about 5 minutes. Wouldn't buy it again and this review will remind me to do so.

I first used this product in 2002 and fell in love with it immediately. I stopped buying it when my local Whole foods stopped carrying it and missed it terribly ever since. I found out that Target now carries it and I bought a handful of bottles and I am beyond happy once again! AMAZING toner, AMAZING scent and I love that it is sooo natural (minus the perfume they put in it). I will use this for as long as BB continues to make it. I HIGHLY HIGHLY recommend it!

This toner is super fresh, its great to have as a kick start in the morning! But I see the most amazing results when I use after using m/u remover and cleanser. I swipe this across my face and there is an unbelievable amount of m/u and cleanser residue left behind on my face :(
It leaves my skin suuuuper soft, clear, radiant and bright. Although I havent noticed a massive change with my blemishes. Its not at all drying or tightening in my opinion. Ive noticed that my skin isnt as oily/shiny before I go to bed or wake up as it used to, so good for oil control :)
I like the packaging, its neat and classy. There will be no problem with product wastage, which is one of my pet peeves, plus you can easily recycle the glass. The smell doesn't bother me, its a herb-y, parsley smell with strong alcohol scent. The price isnt cheap nor overly expensive for what it is, although Im pretty sure you can buy it from amazon.com about $10 cheaper than in stores.
Overall Im really pleased with this product, and I def think itll be my summer go to toner!

This toner is good for those with combination/oily skin. It doesn't really smell like tomatos more like a perfume smell, but it goes away after a while. This toner is actually one of my HG toners along with the Rosewater and Glycerin Toner from Burts Bees (I tend to switch around since my combination/oily skin is difficult). On days I feel more oily on my face, I use the Tomato toner and it's great. The smell may be strong for those who don't like perfume scents, but I got used to it, I didn't like the smell at first but now I don't even notice it. I have a sensitive nose for scents also, and it didn't make me sneeze. Overall, this toner is great, it removes everything that your cleanser didn't.

I sell this at my work and heard a few people talk about it and thought WHY NOT...especially since I have mini plastic sample bottles in the back (SCORE). I tried the samples for two weeks, and rather enjoyed it! I was AMAZED at the amount of dirt it took off even after cleaning and exfoliating. I have found no real drying problem but that's because I moisturize every morning and night after I use it. I am only on my 3rd week of use, I have noticed a slight reduction in my deep pimples which I don't get often but enough to notice the difference. No real change to any redness but my skin overall feels better and my little pimples don't seem to last as long.
The glass bottle is a little nerve racking but I have a few plastic pump bottles I purchased for makeup remover and bursh cleanser and decided to transfer it to that! Two pumps into a cotton ball and no fear of shattering glass!

I'm a sucker for frosted glass packaging, my weakness. This toner is a corn based alcohol toner. I really like the smell, doesn't smell like tomatoes at all but more like a really mild sweet & fresh perfume smell. This toner is not as harsh as most. I'm really not into alcohol based toners, don't use them, don't like them, don't like the feel of them on my face so I've stopped using them years ago and haven't used them ever since. continued >>

My go to toner for summer months really cleans of the residue left after cleansing. Does have a strong alchol smell to it. Packaging is horrible glass container. but I use it up to the last drop so it's a great purchase. I hae super oliy skin in my t-zone and dry every where else. I usse it daily in my t-zone and every other day on the rest of my face.

i absolutely love this toner! it is the only one where i can actually see leftover makeup/dirt residue on the cotton pad after use.. my only gripe is i can smell a strong whiff of alcohol while applying and it burns my cheek area where its sensitive.. so i would caution certain skin types to use this.. but i am thinking of repurchasing another since i finished the bottle a few months ago and my skin has been breaking out very badly since!

My skin is usually very clear. I started using a makeup primer daily and broke out like crazy. I didn't know what to do, but something told me this might help. I washed my face and did a face mask with honey and cinnamon. After I showered I used the toner. I was amazed at the dirt that was STILL on my face! Before bed I applied the tiniest bit of spot treatment (that hadn't been working prior) to my trouble areas. When I woke up I was so happy! My biggest trouble spot had reduced to a painless red spot and my other spots were tiny red spots. I'm thinking that if I keep this up by the next 2 days I should see significant improvement. That's my story, I think it works. I will come back and update if something goes wrong but for now I'm very glad I bought it.

Omg. This stuff is awful! I got it at a local herb shop on sale along with a huge bar of the tomato soap for only $5 but I wish I could return it. I used to have oily skin and now its dry, thanks to this toner and the soap. Maybe I got a bad batch but I hate this stuff! Plus the glass bottle is a bit annoying cause you have to be super careful when storing this cause it's glass. I almost dropped it once and I panicked!

I used to have a horrible PHOBIA of toners. I always thought they made my skin even more oily and irritated, most of the time that was true. HOWEVER. This toner did nothing of the sort, it even combated my oil and redness. The product is not too cheap, but it's worth the price. I personally think that the natural ingredients are what really help skin, not like all those chemical filled toners that many popular anti-acne regimens carry. It has a wonderful smell, great packaging and wonderful results. Definitly a good buy and wonderful for stubborn troubled skin like mine! Don't be afraid to try it!

I love this toner. It is incredibly mattifying and has helped clear up my acne. It has this great clean garden smell to it which is refreshing. I recommend this product to anyone that has oily/acne prone skin.

I love this stuff. A friend of mine got it for me, and when the other toner I bought wasn't working, I decided to give it a try. My face looks amazing after I use this toner. My skin has actually never looked so clean or so bright in the many years I've been battling acne and blotchy skin. This does dry out your skin just a bit in the winter, but it's nothing a dab of moisturizer won't fix. I actually think my skin looks better after using this than it does when I'm wearing all of the expensive mineral makeup I've invested in. I definitely recommend this product.

Of the toners I have tried, this has worked the best for my acne prone, oily, but sensitive skin. I was a bit put-off at first by the high consistency of alcohol since I have avoided using alcohol on my face for a long while. But I gave it a shot after reading some reviews and have been using this for about a month with good results. It helps get any residue my cleanser didn't take care of off my face, only stings where I have any inflamed breakouts (which is my fault for picking!) and seems to have helped the overall clarity of my skin.
When this bottle runs out, there is another toner I wish to try to compare results, but otherwise I would definitely buy again. As a matter of fact, the results of the toner have prompted me to try the Garden Tomato cleanser as well (too bad it's in bar soap form - I hate that!).

I was SO ready to love this product. But here's what it did for me: Enlarge my near-invisible pores, sting like nobody's business, engulf me in its alcohol fumes, and make me oilier. I usually love alcohol and stripping my skin clean (no joke, I really do), but the alcohol content of this toner was insane. I couldn't breathe, my eyes would water. My blemish-free skin would STING. It would leave behind a sticky film that I hoped was "moisturizing," but was really just making my skin oilier. Thanks to this toner, my previously slightly-oily skin is now really oily. Because I like to finish what I started, I'm almost done using up the whole bottle. But I don't think I'll finish the rest, I've discovered it actually works well as a cleaning solution, and I now wipe down cell phones and keyboards with it. Try it.
