It's harsh, it hasn't cleared up my acne at all, but it makes me feel better to apply something instead of being helplessly blemished!
love but not HG! has done great things but no real hype! would buy again, but still searching for my HG product.
It's been 5 months and 21 days for me. I use this alongside the Cetaphil Oily/Acne prone skin cleanser and/or the Daily Advance Ultra Hydrating Lotion with Cliniques Moisture Surge Intense.
It is incridible. Absolutely amazing. When you have acne as bad as i did you think there's no way out, Benzac AC is the way out. Start out with the 2 or 2.5 and persist. For me within 5 days I noticed a difference. 5 months later and i can tell it works because i still break out when i DONT use it.
All I have now is the acne pigmentation. I wish so much that someone would have told me to use this so so much.
I used to use the 2.5%, which worked really well in the beginning but gradually became less effective, so I went up to 5%. Unfortunately, the exact same thing happened - my acne was well controlled for a few weeks then slowly came back again. I'm hesitant to try the 10% because I don't want dry flaky skin. It seems like benzoyl peroxide for some reason only controls my acne effectively if I use it for a few weeks then stop for a few weeks then come back to it. If I use it continuously the effect somehow wears off. I would repurchase it just because I don't know of any other product that works better but I can't count on benzac to be acne free :(
Skin type: combination, acne-prone with oily T-zone and nose, dry cheeks
- Reasonably priced at AU $14 for a 50mL tube
- Works well with consistent use. Last year in my final year of high school, my skin was breaking out all the time and I had whiteheads that just didn't go away. Foundation only covered the redness but exacerbated the appearance of whiteheads; I needed to get my skin to the best condition it could be. I applied this product from October 2012 - late December 2012 at night and slowly but steadily, my break outs reduced and whiteheads (ones that I thought would never go away!) finally disappeared. Of course, I had a gentle cleansing routine where I used Cetaphil cleanser and a good acne-friendly moisturiser (Nivea Soft).
Now my skin is great condition - I have clear skin with some milia between my eyes and very few break outs. I now use this as spot treatment and it works fairly well, in conjunction with clay masks.
- A bit drying if you apply all over your face. So, only apply to spots if you don't want your skin to feel dry all over!
this stufff really works.
i only rely on this wen it comes to pimples.
My HG BP product. Have used this for the last year or more after continually running out of my 5% BP Clearasil acne treatment tube that was about the same price but 1/3 of the size. Amazing value for money and and effective BP cream.
I have acne prone skin that only started when I turned 20. When my skin breaks our I can get mild cystic acne on my forehead upper lip orchin. When I use this the breakouts are reduced by about 95% and cystic pimples that have already formed will take about a week to clear up vs 3-4 weeks without this product.
It is SUPER drying, especially when you first start, but please don't let that put you off as you just need to let your skin get used to it and use a nice moisturiser. The perfect combo for me (for years) has been BP and Cetaphil Daily Advance Ultra Hydrating Lotion For Dry Sensitive Skin. My skin rarely feels dry when I put these together and my break outs were so bad before this I felt like nothing would ever work.
This being said I have been wanting to wean my skin off this product for a while as
I am not that into using chemicals on my skin anymore and would love to see how my skin copes without it. I apply it all over my upper lip area below my nose, all over my forhead and all over my chin and jawline, but I am hoping to use it more as a spot treatment in thr weeks to come so maybe I can use some more natural alternatives in the future
It really is a lifesaver for people with unexplained acne break outs. Also the regimen recommends Nutrogena On The Spot BP cream, but this is so so much bigger and cheaper than that product.
I'm still undecided on this product. I purchased the benzac a.c 5% only two weeks ago, so I can't say that I have really been using it for long enough to give a decent review. I have dry skin and it has always been clear, other then the random pimple here or there. For the last four months or so I have been breaking out around my chin area with moderate to severe acne. For the first week I used the benzac a.c 5% in a very thin layer at night and I would rinse this off before bed. I noticed no change with my skin while doing this. For the second week I have been applying the benzac a.c 5% in a thick layer across my acne affected areas and I am leaving it on over night and rinsing it off in the morning. I have had no new acne appear since doing this and the acne that I previously had has not completely cleared, but has not progressed. I will continue using the benzac a.c 5% in this way and I will write another updated review once I have used the product for a long enough period of time to know whether or not this product is for me. I did find that the benzac a.c 5% is quiet drying on the skin (as are a majority of acne and medicated products). I have been using the cetaphil gentle skin cleanser and also the cetaphil moisturising cream, which has effectively helped with the dryness. At this stage, I would say that I would not purchase this product again, but I will make my final decision once I have trialed the product for a fair amount of time. I will keep you posted on my progress. Fingers and toes crossed! xoxo lamourdesoi
An update: with my continued use of the benzac a.c 5%, I have noticed that my underskin acne has become smaller in size with some actually clearing completely. I have had no new acne appear. The negatives that I have with this product are that it has made my skin very red and quiet dry. It is also sensetive and stings slightly when applying any product; such as cleansers or moistorisers.
I have used this as a spot treatment every night for about three weeks now and as my skin is still in its cycle I can't say its completely cleared everything up but whatever I put it on seems to just disappear by the next morning. I am naughty and use the Benzac AC 5% wash as well at night and have noticed a dramatic improvement in my skins clarity. All the tiny sandpaper bumps disappeared in the first week and any sore, red pimples that come up during the day are all but gone by the morning. The only thing it didnt work with on me was pimples that I had picked at before showering (punishment from the skin gods I suppose).
It did dry out my face a little in the first week but my skin was a little used to the BP because I had been using Proactiv for years prior to the switch. To combat this I used Sudocrem at night on the places I felt tightness and Sukin's organic moisturiser in the morning prior to make up and havent had a problem since.
I reccommend this to anyone who doesnt have sensitive skin.
You will need a little patience to get through the inital dry patch but trust me it is well worth it!
I am still a teenager + have mild acne along my t-zone. If you have teenage acne please by this it definitely works!!!! It dries out the area you apply it to, removing blemishes and if you use an oil free moisturiser you should have no problems with peeling/dryness. I applied it twice a day for a week and my acne was 90% gone!!! Don't waste money on expensive acne creams like proactive, this is the active ingredient they put in all those things just cheaper and in a boring box. This is the only product i've used with almost instantaneous results best acne treatment around :)
