Outstanding dark-hued sheer but rich colour that has a great texture and excellent longevity.
On a dark, (even, old) girl like me it is a really flattering sensual subtle shade that I love so much I am saving in case I run out.
One of these days i will review something form Nars that is no good, but not today!!!

Good colour, good consistency, feels great on the lips. Perfect for work in my opinion as it has colour but isn't too over the top.

Gipsy is a deep brick red, nice color, wearable in fall and winter, but not unique. When I got it I thought I was getting a "warm berry" as described by Nars, but instead it applies deep brick red. Well, it is ok, but nothing special.

Until I found NARS, I had terrible trouble with red lipsticks. I wanted to wear them, I really did, but I'm both pale and yellowish (with unfortunate yellow teeth I inherited from my dad) and most "red" lipsticks make me look like a zombie clown, turning either hot pink or orange on my face.
I also have problems with skin sensitivity and reactions, which ended my relationship with the couple of MAC reds I could more or less wear (none of which were as good a colour on me as any of my NARS shades).
NARS, though, your brownish formulations are my dream come true. I now have a little collection, and Gipsy is my go-to daytime red. On me? Sheer, flattering, lasting, and subtle (for a red), and makes my teeth look -- well, not white, but slightly less yellow. And no peeling lips or mouth rashes. A win. I'm almost through my first tube, and will certainly buy another.

I love the look of reds on other people, but they always scare me--too strong or high maintenance. No longer. Gipsy provides the right amount of color payoff without requiring a liner and although it is buildable color, I don't think one can over do it. It's a great daytime red. If you're scared of reds and can wear warm tones, try it!

I am on a red lipstick quest. I'm a cool-toned PPP (~NW20), with dark brown hair and eyes. My lips are fairly pigmented dark pink and tend to turn lippies fuchsia. My perfect red lipstick is the exact color of Gipsy -- it's a light red with brown undertones. I know that the rule of thumb is that cool-toned people should stick with blue-toned red lippies, and warm-toned folks should stick with yellow-toned red lippies. BUT I've found that when I use blue-toned red lipsticks, it turns fuchsia on my lips. And yellow-toned red lippies turn orange on me... And then I came across the solution -- brown undertones! It cuts the fuchsia and the orange to create a perfect neutral light red. This is exactly Gipsy.
Of course, there's a catch (besides the price) -- it's so sheer (which I love) that it fades within an hour, very notably within two hours (which I hate). And it's really drying. I'm hesitant to use lip balm while using it because it would make the staying power even worse... so... I don't know what to do. I'm trying to find a dupe for this color because dang, it is nice. But so far, there is nothing that is even close to Gipsy.

Well, once again, I have found an ideal red. I've already fallen in love with Fire Down Below and Shanghai Express, but those are semi-matte and a little bold. I wanted something a little more satiny, a little more sheer, a little more creamy. I'd heard of Gipsy for years but always assumed it was just another berry shade. How wrong I was. Gipsy is definitely a red. Yes, it's a berry red. But it's the kind of berry red that makes me think of ripe, juicy fruits in summer. It's a soft, warm red with a hint of pink and a tiny dash of brown. It's perfect for carrying in my purse when I want to quickly swipe my lips with color. And, like all NARS lipsticks, it contains acai berry oil, hyaluronic acid, and various botanical extracts and fruit oils. It's worth every penny, and one tube really does last a long, long time.

I was surprised to see this described as warm berry on the Sephora website. I find it to be more of an orange/red that is somewhat glossy and sheer with one coat but can be built up for a deeper, more opaque colour that isn't matte. I was in the store to try Dolce Vita but it didn't do much for me. When I tried Gipsy next my face lit up despite the fact that I had no other makeup on - none. The SA said it really brought out and complimented and my pale green eyes and I received a couple more compliments as I wandered around the store with it on. My skin is quite fair with yellow undertones and my hair is currently a neutral medium/dark brown. It reminds me a lot of my beloved Chanel Rouge Coco in Talisman which is darker and rather matte. It also reminds me of Viva Glam Cyndi but a bit deeper and less pink. Really very nice.

Not sure how I feel about gipsy. The color is very wearable, but a bit boring. On the Nars website, it's described as a warm berry. Warm berry, isn't that a contradiction? Berry is typically a shade of red with noticeable blue undertones, so that it almost has a slight purple-red hue. I would not describe gipsy as a warm berry, it's more of a mid-toned very muted red, and I can't tell whether it's warm or cool. Basically to me, it's a subdued version of flamenco, almost a nuetral brick red. The lipstick barely lasts an hour on me even when applying multiple layers.
UPDATE:
Definitely won't repurchase, I just bought LQ rouge saint and it's a sheer cool muted deep red berry shade that looks amazing with my skin tone. When I swatched both gipsy and LQ rouge saint on my hand it was very clear that gipsy is a warm toned brown red that doesn't do much for me the cool blue undertones in rouge are more flattering. Gipsy would probably look really pretty on anyone darker than NC15 with warm undertones or olive skin

This is my stand-by red lipstick- I bought it YEARS ago and it's really wonderful. It stays forever, is more sheer and stain-like than glossy. Reds can be hard for me- I'm fair with dark hair, a little freckly. This isn't quite a warm red (makes me think orangey) but it also isn't a cold blue-red. Maybe more of a sheer brick meets berry? I'm still happy with this purchase (and I bought it at least 4 years ago). It's dramatic in the winter when I'm paler and in the summer when I have more color it isn't quite red, but plummy and emphasizes my lips rather than demands attention.

I agree with many previous posters with dark hair, fair skin, and highly pigmented lips. This is a lovely, accessible red with warm hints of pink and orange. On me, it looks exactly like the color of pomegranate. Unfortunately, it is much too serious of a color for day. Somehow it is even MORE intense than a true red lip! I think it's because this is a very sultry and "natural" color. When I wear it my whole face glows as if I'm shopping at a store with soft and warm "flattering lighting". I also feel much more confident :) Definitely a must-try.

As much as I love NARS lipstick, I was never really tempted to try Gipsy. I think I may have been put off by the NARS description of "warm berry," as I'm rather cool-toned (and very fair); I probably assumed it was orange-based. Either way, most reds are either overwhelming or not particularly appealing on me. I happened to swatch it randomly one day in Sephora, though; all of a sudden, I had the revelation that I LOVED this shade. It was sheer! It was red! It WORKED with my skin! I attempted to throw it in my basket quickly, before I could change my mind -- but Sephora was out!! One quick trip to Nordstrom after work, and Gipsy was mine. It's actually very similar to MAC Hot Tahiti -- on me, it's a sheer, buildable berry red that works with my very fair complexion (NW5-10; NARS Siberia).

I highly recommend Gipsy if (1) you're wary of red, if (2) you're in the fair-to-very fair range, or if (3) you're not used to seeing yourself in red and want to ease into red lipstick. It's sheer, but it's buildable, and it can be layered for more dramatic color. Love it! I can honestly say this is one of my HG reds -- and colors in general!

I love it, it's pretty and all, but i thought it was going to go on as an everyday pink like a berry stain, but it actually goes on the lip quite dark, especially if you have quite pigmented lips as I do.
I love it, but i'm not left with a lipstick only to be used for evenings when i really wanted a day one.
lovely texture, lovely finish, lovely NARS.
EDIT: up to five lippies, it has grown on me big styleee, love it. if i put a slicky lip balm on before hand it really transforms into the sheer lipstick i wanted in the first place :D and a yes for repurchase too.

Wow, I can't believe I haven't written a review for this one before. This is a wonderful red/berry color that should go with cool and warm skintones. Many reviewers have already discussed buildability and I have to agree - this lipstick can take on many different "looks" depending on how you apply it. Lately, I've been lazy with makeup and wearing only primer, concealer and this lipstick. This red is a close second to some of those offered in Chanel's Rouge Coco line, but less expensive.

Gorgeous berry lusciousness. This is my first NARS lipstick and I'm fairly impressed with it. The formula is non-drying and very sheer so it's incredibly flattering. I do think that there's very little product for the price but I really love the colour so I can deal! LOL

I can't quite decide what to make of this lipstick. I'm very fair (Estee Lauder Ivory/Linen), but I have dark hair and very pigmented lips. I thought this lipstick would be perfect on me, but on my lips it turns a very bright rose-red, almost ruby. Not necessarily bad, but definitely bright. I can't wear it during the day, that's for sure, but when I turned the lights down a bit, it looked pretty striking. It certainly makes my lips look luscious. I just generally like more subdued or deeper colors, so I can't decide which side of the too bright line this falls on for me. I probably won't buy it again, just because I don't think I'll ever use it all up, but I think I will wear it in the evenings when I want my lips to make a statement.

I find that the user-added picture for this review (the swatch on the back of the hand and the lipstick half used next to it) captures the lipstick quite well. I agree 100% with another reviewer's opinion that this shade is a good introduction to red lipstick. The coverage is sheer, build-able, and does leave a stain. I don't find this to feel "gritty" as another reviewer did. The only other lipsticks I really use are MAC Lustre, so in comparison, I find the Lustre are creamier but have less staying power than this NARS lipstick does, and the Lustre smudge easier.

I think this lipstick is pretty generic. Not really a red, not really a plum, not really a berry. Doesn't really go with many other things I have. I don't often find myself reaching for it. I don't think it matches my warm to neutral skin tone. It does have good lasting power and is well pigmented. For the right skin tone I think it might be nice, other people certainly do seem to like it. It just doesn't seem to do anything for me.
