Pressed Powders - Catrice - Skin Finish Compact Powder [DISCONTINUED]

Very happy with this finishing powder. It has slight coverage (it's more a mattifying finishing powder than anything) but most days, I like wearing it solo as it manages to even out my skin tone without looking fake or flat. Has a fleeting, nicely flowery smell.
I got the lightest shade (out of 6, non of which are much darker than "Mediterranean"), which suits an NC 15-20 …

Lipstick - Catrice - Ultimate Colour Lipstick (All Shades)

For a budget brand, Catrice's lipsticks are impressive. Pigmentation is great, packaging luxurious (love the embossed logo on the lipstick itself), scented a subtle vanilla which doesn't overpower. The Ultimate Colour line are opaque with a matte finish. Their lasting power is average and some shades can be a bit chalky when applied heavily.

Hair - Unlisted Brand - Sweet Almond Oil

Almond oil is a multi-tasking product in my household: I use it to moisturize (especially legs and dry elbows drink this stuff up), to clean makeup off my face, as a hair treatment or to add to my bath water. While it works great as a moisturizer for legs and the like, I've found it doesn't do as well on cuticles and existing callouses; it seems to harden them. I haven't had any …Read more

Moisturizers - No Brand (DIY or homemade) - Glycerin

Should be a beauty staple for most. Dirt cheap and versatile - and it already *is* the main component for what, 90% of moisturizers out there.
Uses: with rosewater, as moisturizer. Pure, to soften up callous feet (apply at night, wear socks to bed and voila). Add to bath water for a less drying effect. Mix in a 1:3 ratio with water as a mixing medium. Add to shampoo by way of conditioner …

Treatments (Face) - La Roche-Posay - Effaclar K

This used to be my go-to moisturizer when I had severe skin
problems. The thin, watery, non-greasy texture gives this the edge over other moisturizers for oily/problematic skin, because it doesn't attempt to impart that oddly fake matte effect (looking at you, Vichy). Now that my skin texture has changed with ageing I have tried several other brands, but I still find this one beats …

Moisturizers - Kiehl's - Ultra Facial Moisturizer with SPF 15

Pleasant water-based, non-greasy fluid, that does hydrate well. My guess is the below complaints are from people with relatively dry skins - for oily ones, this is bliss. It being paraben-free is an absolute plus for me, too, since I am allergic to many preservatives.
Very serviceable, but YIKES, the price! I got a very generous sample (30ml) at the local Kiehl's store, so that'll …

Odd. Wonderful. Nasty. Meditative.
I can't make my mind up. I sway between considering this the best incense frag (and I love incense frags) and finding it unrelentingly horrible. Upon spraying, I get a lot of anise and floral notes. Decaying floral notes. Sharpish amber, too. Not altogether pleasant and, dare I say it, it reminds me of badly cared for, dusty, incontinent old man. Not …

Gorgeous, gorgeous fragrance. Seductive, very "grown up", the scent of that mystical woman-creature you aspired to being when you were little.
Its attributes have already been described below: it's a citrus-and-opoponax concoction, powdery but bright and summery. Starts with a snappy bergamot with a touch of cinnamon and evolves into a honeyed, powdery, smooth blend of …

Cannot be without it. Gawjuss.
The opening is slightly messy, with pine and cedar tumbling over each other in their hurry to reach your nose. There's something unpleasantly sour-synthetic and jarring about the opening, too. 5 minutes in, however, a creamy, silky, smooth, gooey sandalwood starts unfolding, a great big bath of smoothness in which those weird top notes slowly sink and …

Oily skin + extremely rich moisturizer = problems. I only got a sample of this, thankfully. I must say I *was* pleasantly surprised at how quickly it was absorbed in the skin given how thick and rich it is, but this was just not made with my skin in mind. I used it as a night cream a few times, but it broke me out. I passed it onto my mother, who seems happy with it (dry, eczema-prone …Read more
