Eye Shadow - Kjaer Weis - Cream Eye Shadow - Alluring

Very pretty but after only a couple of hours it creases and fades - but that may be because I have oily eyelids and not a lot of lid space. A bit hard in the pan (drier than the foundation, blush, or highlight) but softens enough on your finger to be worn sheer or patted on to about medium intensity. The pan is maybe about an inch or more diameter, so larger than the powder …Read more

Lip Gloss - Kjaer Weis - Affinity

4.0
Created with Sketch.

Mar/19/2018

Feels very nourishing and softening but relatively light on the lips - not as plush/heavy as Clarins lip oil, for example. I find it a pleasant medium between slippery and sticky. Doesn't seem to last long, though. Mild floral/cosmetic vanilla scent. Affinity is a semi-sheer light-medium muted rose, not quite a dusty rose (not as cool/gray) but definitely not a bright pastel either, sort of …Read more

Foundations - Kjaer Weis - Foundation

OK, wow. I love this. I love this! This is the perfect complexion product for me - very pigmented, weightless, wears like iron, looks like skin. Can't get over how imperceptible this is, neither matte nor dewy, perfecting but not inhumanly flawless. It reads like skin, only better, especially when used like a flexible concealer, just here and there where needed. Lightness is a good match for …Read more

Lotions/ Creams - La Roche-Posay - Lipikar Baum (Balm) AP

5.0
Created with Sketch.

Apr/30/2017

Lipikar Baume recently got a reformulation (AP+) and I'm so very, very relieved that it is no less effective than the old AP version! When I got wind of its impending dc/reform I stocked up for the apocalypse - it was seriously worrying because it has been the only product that controlled unbearable eczema-like itchiness, including prescriptions, at least for me. The itchiness was sudden …Read more

Candles - diptyque - Ambre Candle

5.0
Created with Sketch.

Dec/03/2014

This review is for the Ambre candle in the "cognac" colored glass jar, new for 2014. Ambre Cognac now joins Figuier Vert (green), Tubéreuse Rouge (red), and Baies Noire (black) in this color series, with burn-time at ~90 hours compared to the ~60 hours of the standard-size candle. It's the same scent in the same (uncolored) wax, in a new vessel that is chic and unmistakeably …Read more

Makeup Brushes - Marc Jacobs - No.14 The Conceal

5.0

This really is a genius brush for non-precision concealing like patting under eyes, blending around nose, etc. A joy to use. Sounds a bit insane but true - I find myself looking forward to doing concealer! Love it so much, I just got a second one. ♥

Candles - diptyque - Coing candle (quince)

Nov/28/2012

Happy to report that this candle is currently available (at the time of this review), after a long discontinuation hiatus. Plus, not only is the burn unsooty on mine, the throw is excellent -- almost a throwback to the potency of oldschool Diptyques. About the scent itself: Agree with other reviewers that Coing is perfectly rendered quince in all of its honeyed fruit loveliness. Reminds me of …Read more

Candles - diptyque - Cypres candle

4.0
Created with Sketch.

Aug/21/2010

Not as strong as it once was but not as weak, either. I'd gone off Diptyques for a few years since their spotty production, but this candle (purchased August 2010) makes me hope my love for Diptyque may yet be revived.

Cyprès is a fresh, slightly floral, slightly sweet evergreen scent, rather like a light balsam fir, and not as bitter as a live cypress tree. Very clean …

Fragrances - KENZO - Les Eaux De Fleur Collection - Eau De Fleur de Soie

3.0
Created with Sketch.

Apr/08/2010

The silk flower tree (nemu-no-ki) is fairly common in some parts of East Asia and its scent is familiar and nostalgic for me, having grown up with it -- and so is Kenzo's copy a very distinctly summery cultural motif. Eau de Fleur de Soie isn't a perfect replica of that lovely, mild scent but the nemunoki is definitely locatable in it. I got it for that.

But without …
