Lotions/ Creams - Unlisted Brand - 1818 Farms - Shea Cream

This lovely whipped body cream is handmade on a farm in a tiny Alabama hamlet. It's light and fluffy yet very, very emollient. It has just a few ingredients (two if you get the unscented): shea butter, coconut oil, and fragrance. I received a jar of the Wedding Cake scent as a gift. It smells like white cake with vanilla buttercream--very delicious, though I'd probably get the unscented …Read more

Gels/ Soaps - Balea - Cremedusche (Shower cream)

One of my favorite things about Europe is the drugstore shower gels and creams. There's so much more variety. The quality is great. The standard bottle size is also smaller (often 200 ml or so), which is great if you like to switch things up a lot, which I do. And did I mention how cheap it is?

Balea is a house brand of dm, a German drugstore chain. They sell all kinds of …

Gels/ Soaps - Unlisted Brand - Raw Sugar - Moisture Loving Body Wash

My husband is, quite literally, addicted to watermelon; if I'd let him, he'd eat a whole melon by himself every day they're in season. So when we saw this body wash in the Watermelon + Fresh Mint shower gel, we had to give it a sniff. I was expecting watermelon candy--Jolly Ranchers--but this actually smells fairly realistic, not to mention delightful. Like a fresh, juicy …Read more

Cleansers - CLINIQUE - Rinse-Off Foaming Cleanser

I like this cleanser more than I probably should considering it leaves my face feeling a little tight and dry. You seem it's creamy and dreamy when you're applying it it. But then, when you rinse it away, you can feel it taking a little more of your skin's natural oils with it than it should. This is almost certainly because of its potassium-based cleansing agents (thanks …Read more

Cleansers - La Roche-Posay - Toleriane Purifying Foaming Cleanser

This is a great cleanser at a fair price--about $15 for 13.5 fl oz of product. The foaming action is gentle and non-stripping; it's capable of removing light makeup, though for best results I'd recommend using it as a morning cleanse or a second cleanse (unless you don't wear makeup). In this, it is very comparable to my holy grail Cerave Foaming Facial Cleanser (as well as the …Read more

Cleansers - Drunk Elephant - Beste Jelly Cleanser

This is a fantastic cleanser, and yet I will probably never purchase a tube. It's simply too expensive given that it performs almost exactly like my holy grail Cerave Foaming Facial Cleanser. (Another dupe is the La Roche-Posay Purifying Foaming Cleanser.) I used up the deluxe sample I received as part of my Sephora birthday gift, and I greatly enjoyed it, but I can't justify paying …Read more

Treatments (Eye) - Lancôme - Renergie Lift Multi-Action Eye

I received a generous sample of this eye cream as part of a gift with purchase. I used it up and enjoyed it, but I will not repurchase. In addition to being very expensive ($75 for half an ounce), it is fragranced and comes in unhygienic jar packaging. (The scent is actually very pleasant, but it's inclusion in an eye cream is unwise.) It moisturized my eye area well, without being too …Read more

I can't believe this stuff's been discontinued--not because I particularly liked it myself but because I know it has a devoted fan base. I myself bought it because of Sali Hughes's evangelism. So enthusiastic about it is she that I bought it again after using up one bottle and not loving it. I thought love might come with time, but no. For me, this is just OK. It is, or was as it …Read more

Toners - Pixi - Retinol Tonic

4.0

I am a bit of an acid toner addict. For instance, I've gone through literally liters of Glow Tonic. So of course I had to try Retinol Tonic. I've now used up my 100 ml (3.4 fl oz, $15) bottle and can say with certainty that it's a case of like, not love. This is a nice toner, but I'm just not sure it's doing anything besides, you know, making my face feel a little fresher …Read more

Dry Shampoo - Unlisted Brand - COLAB - Active Dry Shampoo +

I'm a longtime reader of A Model Recommends, so when I heard Ruth Crilly had her own line of dry shampoo, I longed to try it. COLAB products are not so easy to find stateside, unfortunately, but I was able to pick up a bottle of the Active Dry Shampoo + on a trip to Europe (I've since bought a bottle of the original formula on a subsequent trip). Let me just say--this is a great …Read more
