Scrubs - Dermalogica - AGE SMART Daily Superfoliant

2.0

I find the Dermalogica scrubs to be very expensive in comparison to similar scrubs from other brands; they’re priced in line with weekly, intensive scrubs as opposed to daily options. More importantly, the mini size (which is what I opt for considering my usage) does not have a very convenient package design, as the opening for pouring has no cover, so powder is free to pour into the lid and …Read more

Treatments (Face) - Deciem - NIOD Survival 0

5.0

Survival 0 is pleasant, well priced, and useful.

Its purposes are twofold, though not entirely exclusive. It contains purified lutein and fractionated melanin, which have been shown to reduce the effects of high energy visible light—i.e. blue light, which is emanating from your phone/tablet/computer screen right now—on the skin. It also contains a number of antioxidants, including …

Treatments (Face) - Deciem - The Ordinary Alpha Lipoic Acid Serum

4.0

The Alpha Lipoic Acid 5% is probably one of The Ordinary’s most immediately gratifying products in terms of visible results, behind only the AHA 30% + BHA 2%.

ALA (thioctic acid) doesn’t pack the burn that AHAs do and isn’t as sensitive regarding pH environment. Due to concentration, TO still earns the product may cause sensitivity of overused—I’ve never experienced this (even when …

Skincare - Face - Lancer Skincare - Omega Hydrating Oil With Ferment Complex

This might be my new favorite oil.

I can only comment anecdotally, as I am not familiar enough with the profiles of individual oils to confidently break down their benefits. But I guess user reviews are anecdotal, so WTH.

I was initially concerned this oil would be heavy and dry skin-ideal based on name alone, but it turns out I was mistaken. This oil features a balance of …

Treatments (Face) - Makeup Artist's Choice (MUAC) - BellEvolve Lac-Luronic Serum

This lactic acid treatment has grown on me quite a lot since purchase. I bought it as an alternative to Sunday Riley’s Good Genes, which just didn’t wow me in the same way it seems to wow everyone else. The high hyaluronic acid content adds extra hydration to the formula without compromising the active acid content of the product, which of course is already gentler (and more moisturizing) than …Read more

Skincare - Face - Allies of Skin - Bright Future Overnight Facial

5.0

Allies of Skin Bright Future Sleeping Facial would be an HG product for me if not for the price (50ml/$120USD). As with all AOS masks, it is intended to function as an all-in-one product, capable of fulfilling all skincare needs post-cleansing and toning. If you’re a simple regimen person, this is your dream.

This mask contains a mixture of 8% AHAs and BHAs (glycolic, lactic …

FYI: Skip the next paragraph if you’re in a hurry.

I settled on retinaldehyde (retinal) as my retinoid of choice after reading a number of peer-reviewed articles. At low concentrations (0.05% IIRC), it performs as well as retinoic acid in acne prevention/treatment (retinal has been shown to kill P. acnes, for those who deal with breakouts but not fungal acne) and treatment of …

Treatments (Face) - Biologique Recherche - Elastine Pure

UPDATE 01/01/19:
I am upgrading my rating now that I’m on my next bottle of this serum. It still earns high marks for texture and absorption (as do most BR quintessential serums) and I still find a little goes a long way, especially when used selectively (I am now using it around the mouth and eyes and on the forehead). I do find dark lipsticks wear cleaner after having used this for over six …

Cleansers - Biologique Recherche - Lait Oxygenant VIPO2

When I say I would buy this product again, I mean I would give it one more try and then ditch it if my opinion doesn't change (second chances are good). First demerit: there's something painful about a $100+ cleanser, especially one you're intended to use 4x/day (it's intended to be used as its own double cleanse). I'm working on the 1.7oz travel size and thinking of how …Read more

Toners - Biologique Recherche - Exfoliating Lotion P50

2.0
Created with Sketch.

May/29/2018

Lotion P50 is difficult to review because, moreso than most skin products, it is very specifically targeted to skin type. In terms of the "new" P50, I found it to have little noticeable effect on my skin compared to other, less expensive (and more active) acid toners. It also consistently irritated my neck, likely a combination of dry skin and vinegar. I personally would not buy again …Read more
