Brows - e.l.f. Cosmetics - Brow Pencil

3.0

Going to start off by saying this is NOT the brow pencil for you if you want ultra-sharp and defined brows. It has a relatively large diameter of around 5mm and a rounded tip, and has a waxier consistency than the firmer and more opaque traditional brow pencil formulas out there. It also isn't the most long-wearing.

Although semi-sheer, it's possible to build up coverage, and …

Makeup Brushes - Zoeva - 142 Concealer Buffer

One of ZOEVA's best brushes IMO. I really wish I'd found this earlier, it has made such a difference when applying and blending cream and liquid products. The bristles are synthetic and densely packed into a round fingertip-sized brush head, they aren't rigid but neither are they too soft and flexible either. As they are synthetic, they don't soak up and absorb products, and …Read more

Liquid - NYX Professional Makeup - Bare With Me Tinted Skin Veil

I have to hand it to Nyx, their pale shades are actually pale enough to match my skin tone almost perfectly - and at drugstore prices to boot. I got this in the fairest shade, the pink toned pale light, and even looks good when i've hastily applied it on the way to work since it blends in so well with my own skin. I can see why this is described as having seamless coverage, it has a …Read more

Concealers - e.l.f. Cosmetics - 16HR Camo Concealer

I'm still a little on the fence with this one. It has lots of good points - its low cost for the amount you get, it is fairly longwearing on my extra oily summertime skin, and the shade fair rose is actually a decent match for my skin tone which is rare for a drugstore concealer. Packaging is very much typical of elf's no frills aesthetic, a plain bottle with the elf logo, although the …Read more

Lipstick - Unlisted Brand - Eglips Lively Lip Matte

Love it. Hands down one of the best matte liquid lipsticks I've ever used, it is quick drying, lightweight, very matte, and budgeproof when set without being overly drying. That's not to say it feels moisturising but as far as matte lipsticks go it's quite comfortable. Like most matte lipsticks it works best on a well-prepped base - exfoliated and hydrated lips, otherwise it will …Read more

Eyes - Inglot Cosmetics - Duraline

One of the best cosmetics purchases I've ever made, I'd thoroughly recommend it even to people on a budget. I know, I know, it seems expensive for what it is and how much is in the bottle - £10 for 9ml excluding P&P - but hear me out. It's a silicone based product that acts as a waterproof sealant with whatever you use it with - once the volatile silicones have dried off it …Read more

Moisturizers - NIVEA - Urban Skin Detox Night Cream

2.0

Looked good on paper - a gel cream with green tea and liquorice plant extracts, alongside the widely-used humectants glycerin and hyaluronic acid. Nivea has released this as part of its new urban skin range, intended to counteract some of the deleterious effects pollution can have on the skin. It's claimed the antioxidants in this are largely responsible for that, isoquercitin and …Read more

Lip Treatments - Burt's Bees - Replenishing Lip Balm with Pomegranate Oil

Quite nice, especially on a budget. Don't let the colour put you off, it goes on very sheer with a slight tint effect, natural enough even for school. Top of the ingredients list are sunflower oil, beeswax, coconut oil, castor oil, lanolin, and pomegranate oil - all commonly used in cosmetics as moisturising ingredients. I think the relatively high content of beeswax and coconut oil in this …Read more

Lips - peripera - Ink Velvet

Just getting it out there first, if you aren't blessed with lips that never get dry or flaky, you're going to need to use a lip scrub and a decent lip balm 20mins before applying. Otherwise this will cling to every tiny bit of dead skin, it's not an on-the-go kind of product. It won't apply well over a thick layer of balm either, so that's why I put on lip balm beforehand …Read more

Dry Shampoo - Batiste - XXL Volume Big & Bouncy Dry Shampoo

2.0

What's the difference between this and the original one? It behaves like a cross between dry shampoo and hairspray. It does stop hair from looking too greasy, but goes too far the other way and makes it very matte. I think the volume claims come from the fact that it has a degree of hold, meaning once brushed up and out it keeps the shape to a certain extent. I don't like using this on …Read more
