BB Cream - COVERGIRL - CG Smoothers BB Cream

2.0
Created with Sketch.

Sep/23/2012

Completely agree with the others -- this is not a BB cream by any stretch of the imagination. Cover Girl is just trying to get its own share of the BB cream market by renaming their tinted moisturizer (I think it was called Smoothers). So obvious, CG! Anyway, as far as a TM goes, this is okay. Coverage is not that great, but this feels light on the skin, plus the squeeze tube is easy to use. …Read more

Eye Shadow - Maybelline New York - eye studio color explosion in pink punch

Normally I avoid pink shadows because I can never make them work -- I just look tired or sick or crazy. But I loved the other palettes so much (Amethyst Ablazed, Caffeine Rush, and Forest Fury) that I just picked this up too. It's actually gorgeous on my NC25/Buff/Nude Asian coloring. I've used it in conjunction with the purple palette (Amethyst Ablazed) to create a beautiful …Read more

Loose Powders - Laura Mercier - Translucent Loose Setting Powder

1.0
Created with Sketch.

Sep/07/2011

This is a below average product. First, it's false advertising: it is not translucent at all -- I can't see how this would work for anybody but pale ladies, considering I use it when my skin is in its lighter range and I'm only NC25. It sets my makeup okay, but it leaves a powdery, ashy cast and doesn't sink into my skin until a few hours later. And unfortunately a few …Read more

Masks - No Brand (DIY or homemade) - Yogurt Mask

5.0

Sep/01/2011

Love this. I try to do one at least every week if not twice. It leaves my skin softer, yet NEVER irritates my skin, even though it has lactic acid (which to my understanding is a alpha hydroxy acid?). I've had to move away from clay masks now that I'm in my 30's, as they're too harsh, but the yogurt mask is a wonderful replacement. I like to use plain organic Fage greek …Read more

Eye Shadow - Maybelline New York - eye studio color explosion in amethyst ablazed

I bought this after LOVING Forest Fury, the green palette. This beautiful mix of purples is nothing like the horrible Maybelline eyeshadows of years past, which were chalky and poorly pigmented -- the worst ones on the market along with CG. These are a whole different story. I don't know how Maybelline did a complete 180, but the eyeshadows in this palette are soft, silky, pigmented, with …Read more

Eye Shadow - Maybelline New York - Eye Studio Color Explosion in FOREST FURY

Okay, I'm on the bandwagon. Now, I'm the first one to say Maybelline eyeshadows are generally horrid, or at least they were in the past. Chalky, no pigmentation, just the worst ones on the market along with CG. But these.... Wow. They are soft, silky, pigmented, with vibrant color, and they last all day with my usual primer (UDPP or Too Faced). Completely gorgeous. I have no use …Read more

Polishes - OPI - Nail Lacquer - Do You Lilac It?

5.0
Created with Sketch.

Aug/04/2011

I don't generally shell out for the more expensive nail polishes (or review nail polishes), but I just had to have this color, and absolutely love it. It's a light to medium lavender color with a slight greyish undertone. The greyish undertone means it's not one of the lavenders that "pops" against your skin -- you would have to go with a blue- or pink-based one for …Read more

Blush - L'Oreal Paris - The OneSweep Blush

Disappointing. Looks pretty and enticing in the pan, but it's poorly pigmented, so it took me a couple of good vigorous swirls in the blush to get anything to show up on my cheeks. And then once there, the lasting power wasn't very good either. If you're looking for a drugstore version of the blush/bronzer combo, I suggest Neutrogena. Their version is SO much better than this …Read more

Blush - Tarte Cosmetics - Amazonian Clay Long-Wear Blush in Tipsy

5.0

I was a little dubious to see how orange Tipsy looked in the pan, but this is a completely gorgeous peach-coral on me. Goes on beautifully -- pigmented but not so much that you can't work with it and build it up. No shimmer to my eye. LOVE LOVE LOVE. Will be wearing this all summer! And if you want a lippie that goes well with this, Revlon Peach Me is gorgeous.
