Brows - Dior - Diorshow Brow Styler Ultra-Fine Precision Brow Pencil

This is a shockingly short pencil for the price, but it is the best pencil I have ever tried. The universal shade is a medium cool brown that works well with my medium brown hair and NC15 skin. The texture is not as hard as Anastasia, but it does not smudge. I also like it better than the Hourglass one, a previous favourite, which is too heavy to travel with. With Dior, I’m able to achieve a …Read more

Shampoo - TRESemmé - Expert with Biotin Repair & Protect Shampoo

I have fine, color-treated hair that can get oily at the roots and dry at the ends. This shampoo felt creamy as it lathered, but made my hair look as though it had been washed with straight-up detergent. The only repair aspect seems to be a coating. This is way too harsh. Maybe someone with oily hair who wanted a clarifying shampoo would like this. But it’s hardly marketed for that. Back to …Read more

Moisturizers - CeraVe - Moisturizing Lotion - Normal to Dry Skin

Best body lotion I have ever used! This is better than Caudalie, better than Clarins or body butters from any brand. I am in my 50s and live in Canada. Our winters are cold and dry and my legs flake. This lotion keeps my skin comfortable for a couple of days with regular use. There is minimal smell, it dries reasonably quickly, it leaves a silky finish. It has ceramides so it actually has …Read more

I had a major allergic reaction, too. Lanolin is one of the cheapest ingredients possible. It's a byproduct of wool and one of the most common allergens in cosmetics. For those who can tolerate it, it's cheaply available in nipple creams for nursing mothers (with warnings about allergic reactions) But it has not been in face creams or lipsticks for decades but it causes welts (not …Read more

Lotions/ Creams - CLARINS - Moisture-Rich Body Lotion

Feb/24/2018

I buy a bottle of this every winter when Claris brings out a value size over the holidays. To be clear that is still not cheap at $57. The strong scent does not bother me (but do smell this before buying it because it lingers.). It is effective to combat dry, itchy shins during a Canadian winter. But the cheap mineral oil listed as the first ingredient bugs me for the price. I actually think …Read more

Eye Shadow - IT Cosmetics - Naturally Pretty Essentials Matte Luxe Transforming Eye Shadow Palette

I love this palette. This is my go-to palette for work or travel. I don’t think this would show up on medium skin tones, but if you are fair (NW15), this is amazing. I mix Wonder (yellowish off-white) and Dream (pale pink) on my lid with Wonder on the brow bone. I use Passion (pale Greige) as a transition with Intrigue (chocolate) to deepen the crease and in the outer V. I use Intrigue over …Read more

Palettes - Huda Beauty - Rose Gold Textured Shadows Palette (original edition) [DISCONTINUED]

This palette was so hyped and I love burgundy shadows, so I bit the bullet and bought it. Since there are so many mattes, I was not too worried if the textured shadows had too much glitter or were hard to apply. But the mattes are quite hard to blend even with my Wayne Goss or Surratt brushes. I just don’t want to work this hard for $85 CAD. With no mirror and flimsy packaging (I don’t care …Read more

Lipstick - Too Faced - Peach Kiss Matte Lipstick

I bought this based on the hydrating but matte claims. Within an hour, my lips had shriveled up. They were so dry, I could not wait to remove this. Maybe if you are twenty, this would work. But as a person over 50 with average lips (not chapped, not prone to dryness especially), this was like wearing liquid lipstick. Absolutely not for mature women or anyone who dislikes liquid lipsticks. …Read more

This is great for my ageing combo skin in the winter. I find it sits well under makeup if I put it on, have breakfast, then come back to finish off with sunscreen and my makeup routine. It definitely plumps fine lines. I use this in combination with the serum, which has a milky, oil texture so it gives the moisturizing properties of the cream a boost. Wish it was not scented or colored. I …Read more

Treatments (Face) - Sunday Riley - Juno Hydroactive Cellular Face Oil

I've loved the Luna oil so I had high hopes for this one. I was especially attracted to this because I do not do well with essential oils because of allergies. Unfortunately, the Juno did nothing for me. It was as if I had put olive oil on my face. It did not work well with my foundation. At night it gave me weaker results than any other cream or oil in my rotation. For my ageing …Read more
