Fragrances - Yves Rocher - Yves Rocher Gardenia Eau de Toilette [DISCONTINUED]

I am normally a believer in You-Get-What-You-Pay-For. YR Pur Desir de Gardenia has triumphantly proven me very very wrong. And no one is happier about this than I.

It has a heady, soft, buttery creamy gardenia scent, mixed in lightly with a little loamy earthy dirt, and it smells divine, as if you just snapped off the fattest creamiest whitest purest gardenia off a lush healthy shrub …

Fragrances - L'Artisan Parfumeur - Dzing Eau de Toilette

I sampled Dzing! with nary a high expectation in sight, and never thought to have found it as bewitching as it is. It starts out with a very astringent rubbery and sawdusty opening, but as the day wore on, the rubber smoothed out and a buttery leather and honeyed smokiness appears. There is a slight slight slight hint of musk on my skin, but not enough to make me gag. The sawdust is still there …Read more

Fragrances - Etro - Sandalo

A very pretty soft almost milky sandalwood on me. The myrrh I think adds that slight sweet duskiness to it and softens that sometimes acrid nature of sandalwood that I can get from others. It's not as overt as Tam Dao, which I love as well, or as creamy as Bois Farine (also another fave) but it's soft and pretty and to me, the most feminine of all sandalwoods I've tried. It's …Read more

Fragrances - diptyque - Opone

I thought I was a rose-hater, but I've been proven wrong by Opone. I had just never found the right rose for me. Every other rose has been too high-pitched and soapy. As much as I love Ce Soir Ou Jamais, it turns old-lady powdery and a tad of soap towards the end. It was my rose until Opone. Opone is everything I want a rose to be - sweet, luscious, wet, earthy, woodsy, smokey. There is …Read more

Fragrances - L'Artisan Parfumeur - Bois Farine

The many peanut butter references intrigued me. Thing is, I love the smell of peanut butter, esp the kind that is unsweetened, NOT Jif. And with Bois Farine, I got a whole lotta PB in the first 5 minutes! But the good sort. The woody, dry, nutty kind of PB. Not the super creamy sickly sweet Jif type. Now, 3 hours after initial application, a very dry wood has overtaken the scent - it reminds me …Read more

Fragrances - Serge Lutens - Miel de Bois

I wanted to try this in the biggest way, and thought I would fall in love, but, alas, alack, to no avail. It starts promisingly enough - I get a warm honeyed wood thing, and that slightly lemoney accord that I get in Douce Amere as well. It sweetens and warms quickly, and I thought, wow, it's creamy and dreamy like DA, but with that lovely sandalwood note! And then. And then. An hour into …Read more

Fragrances - Ormonde Jayne - Tolu

Tolu opens with a rich melange of resinous orange blossomy harmony. I sense the frankincense immediately. Then half an hour later, the frankincense retreats, and a grassy herbal sage envelopes the scent. It's almost like a round green bamboo. Something about it is very earthy and slightly hippy, but I don't mean that in the patchouli sense. Maybe it's because all the elements of …Read more

Fragrances - I Profumi di Firenze - Zagara

Dabbing Zagara on my wrist is like someone zesting an unripe orange just off the tree right under my nose. The ticklishness of the sparkly zest is underscored and balanced out by the mellow roundness of the neroli scent. There is a slight soapiness in it too, which I don't like on me. It lends a hint of a metallic tang, and it works on the right person, just not me I suppose. There is a …Read more

Fragrances - Serge Lutens - Douce Amere

Something warm, sweet, smokey, spicey, a splash of sharpness tempered by a hint of honeyed roundness... It's gorgeous. Douce Amere opens with a honey, milk, cinnamon and almost a chai flavor. Then a sweet and slight slight powdery ambry vanillic note descends on me in the drydown and sweeps me off my feet. My 2nd favorite of the SL's I've tested, after Datura Noir.

Somewhat pricey, but this oil lasts so beautifully... It starts off with a jasmine and gardenia burst, and there's a deep wet kind of oakmossy thing underneath, but it never turns sour on me like some oakmoss can. Because of the wetness, this scent also never turns powdery, which is usually not a good thing on me. It's incredibly lush and rich, and makes you think of fat white heavy …Read more
