Sunscreen - CeraVe - Sunscreen Face Lotion SPF 50

Reviewers who are displeased with this sunscreen probably have not ventured into the world of European high PPD sunscreens - which are often thick, tacky, greasy, and streaky in addition to leaving a white cast. After trying a couple of those, I immediately ran towards Asian milk sunscreens, which are a dream. They are very cosmetically elegant and suitable for oilier skins. The only problem I …Read more

Mascara - Urban Decay - Cannonball Ultra Waterproof Mascara

I'm Asian, but I wouldn't say I have a huge problem finding mascaras that I like - I suppose I am lucky to be slightly more lash-endowed than the average Asian, and my lashes don't point downwards. So for the past five years, I have continuously used CoverGirl Lash Exact, Lashblast, and then ClumpCrusher waterproof formulas with success. My lashes looked good, couldn't …Read more

Sunscreen - Unlisted Brand - UNT UV Total Perfectint SPF50+

This is a sunscreen gem that I am surprised more MUA-ers don't use/know about. UNT is a Taiwan-based cosmeceuticals brand that offers free worldwide shipping. I believe their website may have a $35 minimum, but they also have an eBay store where you can order individual items with free shipping, as well as individual items + free shipping on Amazon. (I think an advantage to ordering from …Read more

Cleansers - Unlisted Brand - Aquanil cleanser

Aug/22/2012

This is one of my biggest HG's. Although I generally have pretty oily, resistant skin (I can use fairly strong acids and peels w/o issue), it's become dreadfully sensitive to all cleansers. Basically, any gel, surfactant-type cleanser, no matter how gentle, just doesn't really agree with my face.

I used Aquanil for a long time a few years back, but since I am very …

This is really good for a cheap, cone-free conditioner. Unlike, say, VO5 conditioners - it actually does something. When I rinse this out, it actually leaves some slip in my hair. For $3, that's all I ask for. I like the scent and the price is great. I love that it comes in two sizes. For a basic moisturizing conditioner, this is perfect. Look elsewhere for a deep conditioner or an …Read more

Treatments (Face) - Makeup Artist's Choice (MUAC) - Fade Peel

4.0

Aug/20/2012

I'm acne-prone, and mostly bought this peel to help fade marks. I alternate usage with the 25% mandelic peel, since that is supposed to be good for acne. I have also used 30% glycolic and 40% lactic in the past, but not recently enough to fully compare their effects.

After I use this, I definitely notice an evenness and brightness to my skin, but largely in my non-pigmented areas …

Treatments (Face) - No Brand (DIY or homemade) - Homemade Vitamin C Serum

I wanted to share a way to make a big batch of the base serum - with preservative (I think this helps the serum overall stay stable) - without a scale, so every week you just add some LAA.

The final concentrations of my serum would be: 20% LAA, 15% propylene glycol, and 1% Optiphen (water is 64%).

Step 1: You want to make serial dilutions of the Optiphen. (To those who are …

Treatments (Face) - La Roche-Posay - Cicaplast Gel - Pro-Recovery Skincare

4.0

I use Cicaplast for two main purposes: 1) I picked at a pimple, or popped it before it was ready, and the area is raw and tender 2) when I have over-treated a pimple and it needs makeup but is flaky and icky and no way will foundation go over it. For the first purpose, I think it does form a protective barrier, but I don't really see any miraculous healing. For the second purpose, which is …Read more

Sunscreen - FASIO - Airy Shield UV Gel SPF50+/PA+++

5.0

Aug/19/2012

I don't spend a lot of time in the sun, which is why I buy PA+++ Asian sunscreen - cosmetic elegance is a must, and that's enough PPD for me. My previous favorite sunscreens are Biore UV Perfect Face Milk (for oily areas - it is so mattifying, I love it - but drying on normal areas), and Mentholatum Moisture Milk (which is alcohol free, so better for my normal areas). I'm happy …Read more
