Powder - Meow Cosmetics - Flawless Feline Mineral Foundation

Feb/27/2017

i'm an oily-skinned 30-something who's tried for years to find a perfect powder foundation, but there's a trifecta of issues i encounter: color-matching (pale yellow is always too yellow or peachy, pale neutrals are too peachy or pink, and pale cools are WAY too pink), acne (living that "everything is a breakout trigger" life), and oxidization (SO ORANGE. ORANGE FOREVER) …Read more

Hair Color - REVLON - Luxurious ColorSilk Buttercream

Jul/19/2015

some background: i have fine, oily, wavy hair, tons of it, down now to just past my shoulderblades, and i've been using this dye in soft black for about four and a half months now. i've always stayed away from dyes because my hair is hilariously particular (just using a few drops too much of an essential oil on my scalp made it itch like a mother f'er for a week until i did an …Read more

Primer/ Corrector - wet n wild - Coverall Primer

5.0
Created with Sketch.

Jun/28/2015

i have oily combo skin and normally have a terrible time with silicone-based primers, which usually cause me to break out in under a day. (my skin isn't even particularly sensitive or prone to breakouts--i can hurl a lot of abuse at it and it tends to take it like a champ.) this is a problem, since i need primer to keep my foundation from sloughing off my face in the oppressive, humid …Read more

Eye Shadow - NYX Professional Makeup - The Natural Shadow Palette

1.0

Jun/01/2015

picked this up today from cvs on a whim because if i have one skill in my life, it's that i'm great at wasting money. i've heard a lot of positive things about nyx eyeshadows and i'm in the market for a new neutral palette, so i figured why not!

i am so dumb!

the color payoff just isn't there. i just negatively reviewed a wnw neutral palette for the …

Eye Shadow - wet n wild - Color Icon Palette - The Naked Truth

i think the old pans might still be in circulation, because the one i got was kinda crap and i have a hard time believing i got the same product as the glowing reviewers did. (i did get it from the recent walgreens sale on WnW products, implying that they're dumping stock--so it would definitely be logical that i got an older, more terrible pan.)

that said, i can only review what …

Lips - Younique - Stiff Upper Lip (Lip Stain)

1.0

Apr/14/2015

here's a quick PSA to the ladies and lads of makeup alley: i've yet to come across an unbiased review of younique products. i got these lip stains as a sample from a friend who's doing the whole party points mid-level marketing nonsense; at $22 a pop, this is a hell of a sample. before i put it on, i tried to find an objective review--and instead found page after page, video after …Read more

Top/Base Coats - Essie - Good to Go Rapid Dry + Shine Top Coat

1.0
Created with Sketch.

Apr/09/2015

pros:
- doesn't destroy my nails.
- works fine for a quick clear coat on days where i'm too in a hurry to do anything.
- does appear to actually dry quickly, though slower than sally hansen's insta-dry and seche vite.
- hasn't murdered any of my family yet.

cons:
- i can ruin my own manicures for free, i don't need to spend $10 to do …

Polishes - e.l.f. Cosmetics - Lilac

4.0

May/07/2012

as of december 2011, the formula for e.l.f. polishes has been redone, so it may be better to disregard reviews from earlier years (especially any that comment on a $1 price tag; the reformulation came with a price increase to $2). that said! i wouldn't call this particular color lilac (or at least, it's not the light grey-purple i've come to associate with lilac); it leans to a …Read more

as of december 2011, the formula for e.l.f. polishes has been redone, so it may be better to disregard reviews from earlier years (especially any that comment on a $1 price tag; the reformulation came with a price increase to $2). that said, i love this polish: it's very rich and deep, nearly black until you take it out into the sun where it becomes a lovely coffee color. like a lot of the …Read more

Polishes - L.A. COLORS - Color Craze Atomic

4.0

May/07/2012

i'm still on the lookout for my "perfect teal", but this one is the closest i've found so far. it's darker than the uploaded swatches show; it's a medium to deep teal creme leaning to the green side. it goes on smooth, achieves total opacity within 2 coats (one thick, one thin), and doesn't peel or chip for days, especially with a good top coat. it's a bit …Read more
