Lash Treatments - Unlisted Brand - Latisse Lash Growth Drops

Latisse made my eyelashes longer, but not thicker. And unfortunately I'm one of the people for whom this product is irritating. It makes my eyelids red and itchy and if any runs into my eyes, my eyes get red. I also get a droopy/dark undereye look from using this. But the extreme eyelid itchiness, irritation and redness is what caused me to stop using it. YMMV, of course.

Fragrances - Unlisted Brand - Maroussia Perfume by Slava Zaitsev

Based on others' reviews, I blind bought a small bottle of this. I'd have to say this is probably my worst blind buy ever. I do like Oriental, amber-y fragrances, but something about this just smells wrong. It smells like a mixture of Shalimar and Opium mixed with Pine-Sol, or some kind of strong industrial strength cleaning product or machine oil. It has a smoky chypre "bite" …Read more

Fragrances - GUERLAIN - Idylle

4.0

It took me a while to warm up to Idylle. Guerlain is one of those perfume houses that has a certain gravitas. One expects serious, elegant perfumes to come from this classic French house. So when Idylle was launched in 2009, many perfumistas were puzzled. There's no Guerlinade here; no dreamy tonka-vanilla drydown. Idylle is a musky, sweet floral in the vein of Narciso Rodriguez for Her EDP …Read more

Fragrances - Yves Saint Laurent - Black Opium Eau de Parfum

2.0
Created with Sketch.

May/08/2015

The original Opium took the fragrance world by storm when it was launched in 1977, and it inspired countless imitators. Black Opium, sadly, is the opposite. First of all, it can't be properly described as an Opium flanker because it smells nothing at all like the original Opium. It's a derivative fragrance that smells similar to every other "fruitchouli" fragrance that's …Read more

Fragrances - Perry Ellis - 360 Degrees for Women

Very dated, very 90s, but still smells good. It starts with a pungent, almost off-putting burst of melon and rubber bands, but quickly segues to a lily-of-the-valley, China Rain-ish heart -- very clean, sharply floral, yet watery and aqueous. It stays there for a long time until it finally dries down as sweet, musky sandalwood soap. The overall effect is that of fruity shampoo. Very high-pitched …Read more

Fragrances - Unlisted Brand - Olivine Atelier - Full Regalia

This is beautiful. The best way to describe it is that it has a hint of tropical florals over a base of dark vanilla with musk and patchouli. I don't get any fruit from it at all. It's like the love child of Monyette Paris and BPAL Snake Oil. If you like either of those oils, you'll love Full Regalia. One problem I tend to have with some oil-based scents that feature vanilla is …Read more

Fragrances - GIVENCHY - Ysatis

5.0

Dec/06/2013

In my opinion, this is one of the great perfumes, one that ranks right up there with classics such as Chanel No. 5, Shalimar and Opium. It's unique and there's nothing else quite like it.

Created by master perfumer Dominique Ropion and launched by Givenchy in 1984, Ysatis is a kaleidoscope of scent. Somehow, it manages to be: floral, oriental, chypre, green, soapy, musky …

Fragrances - Giorgio Armani - Gio (for women)

4.0

Gio was introduced in 1994, and that's when I got my first bottle. I was in my mid-20s and in college; I had sniffed a test strip in a magazine, liked it and put it on my Christmas list. Aesthetically, I liked the sleek, modern look of the bottle and the golden color of the juice. It looked nice sitting on my dresser. But the fragrance itself was a departure from my usual preferences …Read more

Fragrances - Lancôme - La Vie Est Belle Eau de Parfum

2.0

This is Angel, 20 years later. The fruit-patchouli accord that inspired a thousand imitators (earlier ones being Sonia Rykiel, Flowerbomb, Prada) has evolved into something smelling like a cross between Lanvin Rumeur and Coco Mademoiselle. It also, oddly enough, smells slightly like Narciso Rodriguez. Notice the trend? All new fragrance releases are starting to smell alike. La Vie Est Belle does …Read more

Fragrances - Unlisted Brand - Body Time China Rain

4.0

This fragrance is one you'll recognize if you've ever sampled other, similar scents such as J. Lo Glow and GAP Heaven, or Terra Nova's China Rain, which I think is the exact same as this one, or close to it. Body Time China Rain is a floral/green musk that comes across as shower-clean and soapy. Great for warm weather. It's not a complicated fragrance, and it doesn't …Read more
