Fragrances - Serge Lutens - Muscs Koublai Khan

Serge Lutens Muscs Koublai Khan is notorious for its colorful (and sometimes, hilarious) reviews. If you are reading this one, you have probably already read a few scary and laughable descriptions. So, I will spare you from that.

First of all, I have to admit that when I tried this one, I was already aware of its bad reputation. But the fact that I have a weird skin …

Fragrances - Etro - Heliotrope

5.0

Etro Heliotrope is one of my ultimate comfort scents. To me, it is the olfactory equivalent of my favorite blanket and a bowl of pumpkin soup. Fortunately, it doesn’t smell like the pumpkin soup, but it is still soothing and as warm as my blanket. It’s the kind of fragrance I find myself craving when it is cold and grey outside, or when I feel mentally and physically exhausted. It just relaxes me …Read more

Fragrances - Serge Lutens - rahat loukoum

Sep/21/2012

I admit saying before that I usually don’t like sweets or sweet fragrances, but there are a few exceptions and Serge Lutens Rahat Loukoum is one of them. It is known as the most obvious gourmand in the Serge Lutens range, but so nicely done by Christopher Sheldrake, that it makes it almost impossible to resist to in those (few) days in which I am craving a sweet …Read more

Fragrances - Amouage - Homage

5.0

Sep/21/2012

The Middle East has been source of perfume inspiration since ancient times and, in my opinion, nothing evokes the “One Thousand and One Nights” imagery better than Amouage Homage. This is the stuff the dreams are made of, rich and sophisticated.

Let’s start with the packaging: Amouage Attars come in wooden boxes, a very nice presentation. Mine just has the Amouage logo on …

Fragrances - Balenciaga - Balenciaga Paris

5.0

Sep/20/2012

Balenciaga Paris is probably one of the few among countless designers releases that really impressed me in the last couple of years. Being sick and tired of fruitchoulies and candy-floss-cupcake scents, this was a very pleasant surprise. I tried it as soon as it came out and immediately bought a bottle.

Olivier Polge, its creator, classifies it as a floral-chypre. But since we …

Those who have been following my reviews know how long it took me to realize I like leather fragrances, so I will give you the short version here. After years thinking there wasn’t one single leather perfume that could work for me, I found myself craving this note. I love the softness of Heeley Cuir Pleine Fleur and the sweetness of Knize Ten, but still, there was something missing in my …Read more

Fragrances - Unlisted Brand - Heeley Cuir Pleine Fleur

Sep/19/2012

I’ve spent the most part of my “perfume years” thinking I hated leather scents. But the truth is that the only “classic” leather I remember trying before was Cabochard, and I never really liked it. It was only last year when I finally decided to give some other leathers a try. Heeley Cuir Pleine Fleur was the first of them, and it was love at first sniff.

Cuir Pleine Fleur is …

I apologize in advance for this review…it may be long, subjective and maybe not that helpful. I really tried to do a left- brained review here, but it’s not really working. For the ones who are not bothered my by ramblings, it may still be entertaining.

My grandmother started to work early as an Avon representative, and did that until the very old age kept her from doing it. It …

Fragrances - Hermès - Ambre Narguile (Hermesessence series)

A little backstory here: my relationship with perfumes started very early and has changed a lot during the decades. When I started to get “serious” about them, gourmands were already a trend, so I ended up trying most of them, buying a lot and getting bored a few years later. The truth, as awful as it may be, is: I don’t like gourmand scents that much now… I don’t even like to eat sugar, smelling …Read more

Fragrances - CHANEL - No 5 Eau Premiere

5.0
Created with Sketch.

Sep/17/2012

Let’s clarify one thing from the start: this is not a “change” in the concentration of the classic Chanel n.5. I wouldn’t even call it a flanker. It is a different scent, which retains the famous Chanel n.5 “signature” while, at the same time, revisits and updates it.

The question is “Did the most famous perfume in the world need an update?”. Some may say yes, others no …
