Bronzers - Lily Lolo - Shimmer Stripes Honey Glow

4.0
Created with Sketch.

Oct/29/2013

I braved a purchase of this product despite no reviews on MUA and scant ones elsewhere on the web, but I'm glad I did! This appears to be Lily Lolo's answer to Bobbi Brown's shimmer bricks (and all its many dupes and imitators). I have long wished I could find a good dupe for my super pale skin that isn't as expensive as Bobbi's, isn't too dark or ruddy or orange or …Read more

Concealers - Unlisted Brand - Rival de Loop Camouflage Makeup

1.0
Created with Sketch.

Oct/29/2013

I am forever on the lookout for a concealer that will replace my current HG, Benefit's Boiing, at a more wallet-friendly price. Alas, this German drugstore brand's version is so not it, in fact it's a full on dud that I will be throwing away rather than trying to make work.

The problem is that it comes in two shades--dirty-looking brown orange and dirty-looking brown …

Eye Primer - Unlisted Brand - Rival de Loop Young - Eyeshadow Base

4.0
Created with Sketch.

Oct/29/2013

I'm pleased to report that Rival de Loop's eyeshadow base has been updated and now comes in a tube with a lipgloss-esque application wand, therefore negating the whole finger dipping in a little pot thing that annoys some. The consistency and colour are that of your average concealer; in fact I was initially concerned that the quite pigmented flesh tone of the base would interfere with …Read more

Shampoo - Sebamed - Anti-Dandruff Shampoo

5.0
Created with Sketch.

Oct/07/2013

I have scalp psoriasis and extremely sensitive skin, so even dandruff shampoos can wreak havoc (sometimes especially shampoos targeted at dandruff). This one is good value for money, soothes my irritated scalp, cuts down on flakes, and isn't overly drying (although I do alternate with other shampoos and use conditioning treatments once a week or every other week). One of the better ones out …Read more

Fragrances - Estée Lauder - Cinnabar

2.0
Created with Sketch.

Sep/11/2013

I adore many of the Lauders and generally have various strong fragrances in my collection, but Cinnabar was one I ended up giving away. The problem for me is that this reads as an incredibly artificial, unrelenting, headache and nausea inducing one-note cinnamon on me, as though I had rubbed one of those cinnamon scented car tree fresheners all over myself.

I would greatly recommend …

Gels/ Soaps - lavera - Coconut Dream shower gel

5.0
Created with Sketch.

Sep/07/2013

Yet another Lavera product I'm a fan of. As someone with super sensitive skin who cannot use a great number of organic skincare products due to breakout issues related to essential oils and fragrances, any product with a pampering factor that I don't react to is a godsend.

I have already repurchased the Coconut Dream body lotion several times and adore that too, so trying the …

Fragrances - Gres - Cabotine

2.0
Created with Sketch.

Sep/06/2013

I never wore this when it was first launched in the 90s so do not know whether the original formulation has been changed, but the initial blast I get upon application is like sharp alcoholic fumes overlaid with cheap citrus notes--as others have noted, very much like an industrial cleaner or perhaps a car freshener.

Once that unpleasantness fades the fragrance is not that bad at all: a …

Fragrances - Gres - Cabochard

2.0
Created with Sketch.

Sep/04/2013

I love discovering classic fragrances lurking in drugstore aisles and tend to prefer vintage perfume styles over a lot of modern fragrance releases, so I enthusiastically bought Cabochard blind. I'm not scared of strong fragrances (I adore Tabu) and I appreciate the chypre genre (my favourite one to date being Aromatics Elixir), but Cabochard simply does not work well on me.

The …

Fragrances - Houbigant - Chantilly

5.0
Created with Sketch.

Sep/04/2013

Comforting, calming, feminine, present but never overbearing, floral, honeyed but not cloying, balmy, gently sexy but also a bit maternal. Reminds me of Southern belles sitting on the porch in a summer breeze carrying the scent of honeysuckle.

This is an exceptionally well-balanced, gentle oriental that is never too strong or too much of anything and could be worn in most settings and …

Fragrances - Jil Sander - Sun

3.0
Created with Sketch.

Sep/04/2013

JS Sun is a ubiquitous, well-priced fragrance staple in Germany that has had a steady fanbase here since it was launched over 20 years ago. I didn't start using it until about a year ago (it's always on special around Christmas time) because it just seemed so, well, ubiquitous.

If you're expecting a sheer, aquatic, beachy thing of a scent, SUN will surprise and possibly …
