I have been using this every week for years. It is great as long as you perfect the application. Here are a few tips that aren't on the bottle:
1. On application day, shower and exfoliate as far in advance as possible (never immediately before). I like to do it in the morning and apply in the evening.
2. DON'T moisturise on application day, except in very dry areas. I put a bit of moisturiser on my elbows, knees and heels, but any more will stop it from adhering to your skin (which is probably why it didn't work for hilaryblossom). If you must moisturise, NEVER do it immediately beforehand unless you want a very subtle colour.
3. Heating the bottle on the radiator/in a tub of hot water just before using seems to make it more effective - no idea why!
4. Always wear latex gloves.
5. Mix with moisturiser for the backs of your hands.
6. Doesn't matter if it looks streaky, as long as your whole body is covered.
7. Let it dry for half an hour before putting on loose clothing.
8. For special occasions, I like to leave it on for 15 hours before showering - this obviously isn't possible every time, but it seems to be the optimum length of time to give a long-lasting tan.
I am very pale-skinned, and this is without a doubt the best fake tan I've tried. By the end of the week it is very faint, but if you avoid exfoliating or rubbing your skin vigorously, it shouldn't go patchy. The face is a different story - I always need to do a midweek application just for my face because it only really lasts a couple of days, if that. The difference it makes means it's well worth the money. It's especially good if you have oily skin because it seems to have a drying effect on the face, and it also (like all fake tans) masks spots and diminishes the look of dark circles.
EDIT: The new packaging does not like being heated up for some reason! When I heated it, the bottom pushed out and turned convex and the whole bottle morphed into an 'hourglass' type shape, with a really skinny section near the top. I still think it works better when heated, but it was a nightmare to store it after that because it wouldn't stand up. One plus point about the new formula though is that it smells way better - no biscuity undertones!
