Like others who love this mascara, I'm really surprised by some of the negative reviews. The brush is FANTASTIC. Yes, after three tries, I learned that you use the flat side first to place on lashes, then you use the long bristles to fan & flare out the lashes. I've never had mascara go on like this on my sparse, stick-straight, pointing-down lashes (yes,"Asian lashes") and make my lashes look long and full!

I will say that I layer mascara products, meaning first primer, then the Lancome Hypnose Star. I could stop right there because I love how it looks but I'm a little worried about smudging so if I'm going out, I'll add a layer of tubing (Clinique Lash Power) mascara -- usually this is too much so I'll have to brush out & separate with a spoolie. But I'm left with great, long, defined & voluminated lashes that is holding the eye lash curler curl. Wow.

Notes: When I first opened the tube, it was too wet and it didn't hold the curl of my lashes, but now the mascara does so and the lashes look fabulous. I got it as a Sephora 100pt perk, so I could toss it if I don't like it, but I'm really impressed with the wand/brush. And I never even noticed the rose-y smell, until I read the other reviews from people. I have extremely sensitive eyes and the scent never bothered me and, you know what, once the mascara is dry, which is like in 20 seconds, you won't smell anything -- that is, if you even noticed in the first place. Geez.

Update: This was the first mascara that helped me achieve long, full lashes do I gave it 5 lippies. Now that I have the Maybelline Colossal Cat Eyes in waterproof, which I can purchase around $5 at Bed Bath & Beyond & around $8-9 at CVS, and which adheres to lashes, lengthens, defines & volumizes (to a certain extent) and most importantly REALLY holds the curl without flaking and VERY minimal smudging, I think I have to downgrade to 4 lippies. I doubt I would want to go through the bother of using lash primer, this mascra, and then a layer of tubing mascara any more to make any mascara work for me. That's a lot of work and i was willing to do it before I started using Cat Eyes in waterproof which doesn't require me to go through all of that. So I'm changing my "would I buy it again" rating to a No.

However, I want to add that the Hypnose Star is very water resistant, and I prefer it to the waterproof version which flakes when my lashes get wet. (I would rather have a tiny amount of smudging with the Hypnose Star regular instead because a little running/smudging is easier to clean up and stop, while once mascara starts flaking and gets into eyes, my eyes continue to water which continues breaking down the mascara and then it is a complete mess and my eyes are in a sad irritated state as well. I was shocked and disappointed with the waterproof version because of this flaking when wet.)
