The system gets a three overall because of the Acne Lotion which is pretty good. The benzoyl peroxide dries things up nicely without being too harsh - especially on my chest and nose. Unfortunately, the active ingredient breaks down quickly and the product soon expires. It leaves you wanting to use it every day whether you need to or not just so you don't let it sit around and go to waste, which is no good either because benzoyl peroxide isn't something you should be using everyday if you don't have to.The cleanser and toner were way too harsh. The cleanser foamed up nicely and felt gentle enough, but it didn't do anything to clean the blackhead in my pores despite the salicylic acid. And it left my skin looking so dull. Ditto for the tonor which turns out has all kinds of irritating ingredients. Recently, I switched to a new brand called dermaquest which make a line of acne management products that not only make my skin glow, but they smell heavenly! I like many of Skinmedica's serums, but acne treatment is not one of their strong points which is kind of surprising since it's sold in so many dermatologist offices.

I could not use this system because I believe I have problems with salicylic acid which this system uses. It caused huge cyst acne when I used it. However, I must say I use the other products in the SkinMedica skin line solely now and rarely break out. I had used Proactiv for years but have not needed it or any harsh acne products since using the SkinMedica line. I use the Sensitive skin cleanser and TNS line and have gradually weaned myself off harsher acne-clearing agents. Great skincare line that has transformed my skin.

I started using the SkinMedica Acne Care System about 6 months ago. Since then my skin has almost completely cleared up. I always have one or two pimples on my face but my acne was pretty severe before I started using this product. Overall I would say it's pretty good, although it's expensive and it doesn't last for the six months they say it should. It also didn't clear my skin up right away. For about the first two months I got regular break outs, but after that it started to work.

I agree with the first reviewer. I ran out of the cleanser way before I was even half way close to being done with the toner and acne treatment lotion. It did clear up my acne though I still had some break outs. Major improvement though. Very new skin on the surface of my nose and cheeks and all in all, much clearer skin. I just hate that you have to buy a whole new package ($100) every time you run out of the cleanser. That is just stupid. I just bought the obagi version today and I'm going to try that and see which one I prefer.Don't me wrong. This stuff works. I love the smell too (tea tree is awesome!) but the way they are selling it just doesn't make much sense.

This kit is usually sold for about $100 (USD). It contains an Acne Treatment Foaming Wash (with 2.0% salicylic acid), an Acne Treatment Toner (with 2.0% salicylic acid) and an Acne Treatment Lotion (with 2.5% benzoyl peroxide). At the time that I bought the kit, it also included a tube of the Purifying Masque for free.Acne Treatment Foaming Wash: The bottle is 5 fl oz. I wish that it came in a bigger size, considering that you're supposed to use it twice a day--and they also say to use "two full pumps" of it. This was the first product that I ran out of (before I was even half done with the other products in the kit, too). This product is a watery cleanser where the container turns it into a big puff of foam. The product leaves my skin feeling tingly and cool (probably due to the menthol), but not so much so that it feels irritated or anything. It rinses off just fine; it doesn't leave any residue on my skin.Acne Treatment Toner: The bottle is 6 fl oz. The dispenser on the bottle is really different. Instead of spraying this over your face, you take a cotton ball and push it onto the dispenser, then wipe the toner-soaked cotton ball on your skin. I hate spray toners, so this was a pleasant surprise. This has "SD Alcohol 40" in it, which does concern me after all I've heard about alcohol being too harsh and drying. It's supposed to be gentler than rubbing (ethyl) alcohol, and it allegedly may help kill bacteria and help the other ingredients do their job more effectively. I don't know. I was kind of hoping for alcohol-free products, but I'm not against it if it doesn't have any bad effects on my skin. I don't think that this stuff dried out my skin too much; I did, however, always follow it with some type of moisturizer. I don't know if that affected my results at all, though. To get back on topic, I don't know why they made the toner so big. I would rather have a bigger bottle of cleanser than toner.Acne Treatment Lotion: The tube is 2 oz. Not much to say on this benzoyl peroxide-based treatment lotion. This didn't make my skin peel, nor do I think it irritated my skin. I have recently read about the bad effects (basically premature aging) on the skin from using benzoyl peroxide, though. I was really surprised by that, and I think that I'm going to avoid using it in the future. All in all, I don't think I would buy this again, mainly because of the benzoyl peroxide thing and the fact that I still broke out a little while using this stuff. I did use various moisturizers while using the products, though. That might have changed my results.
