This is one beautiful fragrance. I generally prefer my florals on the stem not on my skin and when I do wear them I usually choose more dry florals. I received this by chance in an extra from an aedes order and dismissed it for some good time. I should have known better. I love Sweet William and it tends to smell more like Sweet William than a Carnation to me and although my nose really can't discern the difference between the two, my emotions can, and I expect it's because I have no carnations on my land but I do have a patch of Sweet William. Funny how that brain works. Dianthus can be a powerful note yet it's seemingly ethereal and cloud-like in this composition. Etro Dianthus is like a cloud of the scent sent up in the air by the heat of the sun beating down on the flowers rather than a perfume note. It's more as if the fragrance is surrounding you than you wearing it. Very hard to explain but very easy to love.

Notes: orange, bourbon geranium, centifolia rose, pink pepper, ginger, carnation, woods, musk, cedar and vanilla. This fragrance opens opens with a realistic rendition of carnation: bright, sweet and - true to the flower - slightly peppery. After an initial blast the pink pepper note fades into the background. The carnation accord is composed by various flowers and fruits: a bright-sweet top layer and a powdery-creamy bottom layer. On my skin the top notes burn off rather quickly, therefore the scent is mainly dry and powdery on me. It also is not very harmonious in its early development, it shifts between dewy-flowery and dry-powdery. It is as if the two note structures struggle for control of the fragrance. At any rate, after an hour or so the accord has found its balance. The dry down is composed of musk and woods with a subtle touch of vanilla. It has nothing to do with carnation anymore, yet it is still very pleasant to wear. This soliflore is a well-done interpretation and delivers what it promises. Although airy, the scent has great sillage. Lasts four hours on my skin.

This perfume is now discontinued and so I bought it on ebay from a seller in germany fairly cheaply. It is meant to be a scent of clove, pink pepper and carnation. I can smell the pink pepper which I don't like much. It has too much of a chemical smell about it for me.Though my hope is that the drydown will be nicer.

Dianthus starts off with a bit of spice and then unfurls with a bit of effervescent sweetness with just a tiny hit of vanilla creating a beautiful interpretation of carnation. There is very little powder in this one. On me it lasts throughout the day and it's one of the favorites that I wear among my coworkers. The bottle is beautiful too! I'm just waiting for the lotion and foaming bath to come out, then I'd be in heaven.

A brief dash of pepper lasts only a few seconds. Then a sweet, orangey carnation, blooms--and keeps blooming. This marriage of orange and carnation is warm and wonderful. The freshness of geranium and spiciness of clove give it a coolness, but it is the orange which lifts this fragrance into the warmth and sun. Vanilla sweetens the whole and lends creaminess. Delicate, happy, lively fragrance. Carnation lovers, take note of this new 2006 fragrance. Those of you who think you do not like carnations, this one may win you over.
