I recently changed my platinum blonde hair to silver and ran out of my all-time favorite toning shampoo from Paul Mitchell. Whenever I went to the salon to purchase another bottle, I saw this product right next to it and it was on sale, so I decided to try it. The fact that it was called "sterling silver" toning shampoo and that it had an amazing coconut smell totally sold me.However, the results were sub-par. I immediately noticed after using this for the first time that my hair color faded quite drastically; I was no longer a beautiful and shiny sterling silver, but a faded pale murky silverish blonde. I looked online afterwards and found that this shampoo *does* contain sulfates, which is most likely the culprit for fading my hair. (I've never had an issue with any other toning shampoos doing this to me.)It also made my hair feel straw-like, which is no bueno. I will be returning this.

I have repurchased this shampoo 4 times now and will continue to do so forever! I typically have tape in hair extensions and this purple shampoo is strong enough to tone both my natural hair and extensions without being harsh enough to eat through the tape and cause my extensions to slip. I have had extensions slip from using other, more harsh purple shampoos such as the schwartzkopf one. This AG purple shampoo tones really effectively yet doesn't leave my hair dry. It is gentle enough to use for every shower I take because my hair is such a light blonde shade. It does not weigh down my naturally super thin and damaged hair, nor does it cause any additional damage or dryness. Love this shampoo and I will forever repurchase it!

TERRIBLE!! one shower with this shampoo and all my highlights were gone, my hair went from light blonde with highlights to a very flat dark mousey blonde. I returned this shampoo immediately! Shimmerlights makes my hair bright and shiney, this "Sterling Silver" did the exact opposite.

I dyed my hair ash blonde, it started turning orange so I looked online for a toning shampoo.Even the girl who worked at the beauty surplus store recommended this shampoo. I tried it ( I was really stubborn to make my hair really REALLY ash) so I used it twice or even three times in a week. I screwed up my hair, it didn't get rid of the orange at all, instead it made half my hair FRIZZY and looked liked crunchy gummy noodles! I was so pissed that it didn't even get rid of the orange or yellow for me! It sucked!

I don't think this product is worth it honestly. Not that it's terrible but it works alright but I don't think I'd purchase again. It leaves my hair dry but it might be different for you. (:

This was given to me as a gift, but I would not purchase it with my own money. It tones alright, but not much better than shimmer lights, which is a lot more affordable. For the price I want some serious purple. Anyway, my major gripe is the sulfates. Purple shampoo is for blondes. Blondes have bleached hell out of their hair. Why would you make a purple shampoo that is so damaging?? After going platinum your hair needs major TLC, but this dries out and frays my hair very badly. I just don't understand the thought process behind the formula. On the bright side, this shampoo smells super awesome.

My original hair colour is dark brown and I have dyed it blonde for the past year. This shampoo definitely tones your hair and eliminates the brassiness, and makes the hair colour SO much brighter!I noticed a significant difference on the first wash.It is also a very vibrant violet colour and smells so good! So far I have experienced no staining whatsoever. However, cons are that it does dry out your hair A LOT, does not lather well at all so I have to use more shampoo than I usually use in one use.Perhaps I need to buy the conditioner that comes with it, but overall the product is really does make a difference in my blonde hair and makes it so much brighter and eliminates the orange tones I dislike.

I have been using this shampoo (with the matching conditioner) for years now. I used to have long, fine, wavyish, level 8 blonde hair. I would get level 10 highlights put in and I used this shampoo occasionally to help with brassyness. I now have shoulder length platinum hair and use it every wash (every other day) to keep it a nice ashy nearly white colour. It's nearly at HG status. When my hair was darker I don't think I really noticed a huge difference after using it. I only got highlights and they were very fine so it wasn't a huge contrast. My hair is also ashy naturally, so I've never had a ton of golden tones to begin with. When I went platinum, I needed it. My hair would get very brassy and this worked well to get rid of it. Sometimes my hair would get sort of bluey-grey, but one or two washes with my regular shampoo and it would be gone. I definitely notice a huge difference using it now, and it's made a world of difference. It is a usual shampoo consistency and while it lathers okay, I feel I need to use a good amount of it to cover my head. It is a nice dark purple colour though. It is pretty drying, but that's another reason I like it. My hair is fine, but I have a medium amount of it. Before I went platinum it was pretty greasy and I would have to wash it every day. I first tried the Joico purple shampoo and felt it didn't do a good job washing my greasy hair. It seemed like a film was being left behind. My hair would get sort of stiff and was just gross all over. Not only do I use this shampoo to maintain my colour, but it does an amazing job cleansing and clarifying my hair. If I have a night where I use a ton of styling product, I use it to wash it all out and it does an amazing job getting rid of the residue. Squeaky clean. I can see how it would be very drying if you didn't condition after, but if you're using purple shampoo in the first place you should probably be using conditioner along with it. Since it cleans so well it seems the conditioner can absorb extra, which is great.I use the shampoo right after I get my hair wet in the shower. Then I brush my teeth, shave my legs, wash my body, etc., with the shampoo in. I rinse it out, wash my face, and I'm done my shower. I towel dry my hair and then put in the matching conditioner. It's so moisturizing that i leave it in for hours, like a a hair mask. My work is closed to the public and sometimes I go into work with the conditioner in my hair for my shift. Using the shampoo with this system has been great for me. There are no reviews for the conditioner, so I'll talk a little about it. It's the only conditioner that I've ever seen that is just as purple as the shampoo. It is very thick, and very moisturizing without being greasy or heavy at all. I use it as a mask sometimes, instead of something like a repair mask. I used to work at Cosmoprof and I was talking about it to the AG rep one day and she said the majority of the purple power in the shampoo and conditioner comes from the conditioner. Using the two together make my hair baby soft, and they both smell really good. Tropicalish, mmmm. I don't know how people can use the stank that is Shimmer Lights when you can smell like the islands instead. I went silver platinum this past week, and I find this shampoo to make my hair a little too blue/purple for right now. I want something that will make it more grey. I'm going to try a couple other purple shampoos and we will see how it goes. I've always gone back to this stuff though and will always recommend it to anyone looking for a good purple shampoo and conditioner. I'm even sitting here with it in my hair right now lol.

When I started to lighten (bleach) my black/dark-brown asian hair to almost platinum blonde in September 2014, I did some research, and found out that purple shampoo would help to tone out the brassy tones that occur when the minerals in tap water cause the already porous, bleached blonde, over-processed hair to turn a yellow/orange colour. This shampoo really helped to neutralize, and make my blonde hair look more ashy! I usually shampoo my roots, and then apply it to the length of my hair, and leave it on for about 3-5 minutes, and then rinse out in cool water. The longer you leave it on, the more purple pigment is deposited into the hair. I do find that after a few shampoos, my hair isn't AS ashy so if you ever end up leaving the purple shampoo on your hair for too long - don't worry for the purple hues will wash out after a while. I also find that if I use this shampoo every time I wash my hair (3+ times a week), it WILL leave some kind of buildup on your hair, which will make it harder to style. But I find that if you use other regular shampoos in between the purple shampoos, as well as a clarifying shampoo every now and then, it really will help to keep your hair free of product buildup, and will make styling much easier.BEWARE - this product WILL dry out your hair. It still contains sulfates, and if you use this shampoo, be sure to follow with its matching purple conditioner, OR just any regular conditioner/deep conditioner that you use on a regular basis. I personally did not buy the purple conditioner since I still have a lot of my regular conditioner.Overall, I do like this product - it does exactly what it claims to do, and another bonus is that it's made in CANADA, Contains NO Sodium Chloride, and is also Cruelty Free (:
