I had been experimenting with oils for a little while with mixed resluts. I use jojoba oil to remove some eye and lip makeup and it helps, but because it is a pure oil, it would leave more of a residue. I never really had success with the true OCM either. I also was never sure if my break outs were attributed to a certain oil or ingredient (I think some do, but over all I break out anyway).
I wanted to try this for a really long time as I heard great things. I thought this would be nice to add in because it was formulated to use almost in place of a cleanser (for some), or could be used as a two step, which I also had never tried a "pe-mixed" formulated oil or official "two step" types of methods. I'm kind of interested in that method because I felt it should clean better, and I like the idea of a simple oil fomulation over a chemical one (makeup "melts" sold in stores). But the problem with that is that you need to find TWO trusted products, which for me is extremely difficult. I almost feel like if one is "good enough" I won't add another and if one is too weak, I'll most likely ditch it instead of adding another one. But I still sorta like the idea of two. I was hoping the oil part would melt the makeup and maybe even moisturize a little so the cleanser was more able to just clean the skin and not strip it.
I liked that this oil had less ingredients than some of the other drugstore cleansing oils which kind of scared me away. So I got a small size of it. Personally, I felt it smelled like dipping olive oil which is tasty but weird to associate a face product with. I ended up using this only on days I wore makeup, but I also always use a cleanser afterwards, along with my Olay Spin Brush (and later Foreo). So for me, it had to be part of a two step. I feel like alone it does help melt the makeup and that's nice and I did love that. It also rinsed away with water much better than a 'real' oil did but not quite enough that I felt comfortable without an additional cleanse. I also probably did it wrong most of the times, which is my fault.
It's thick, but can be harder to spread and I don't like the feeling of tugging too much to move a product around on dry skin. I still really hate that feeling, btw - applying anything on dry skin. I also tried actual foamy cleansers the recommend doing that and I just really can't stand that feeling of applying to dry, made up skin. I kept wanting to wet my face first. BUT it won't work if you do that.
My skin felt overall really nice after washing with this. However, though two step is a normal thing most people use oils like this for, I couldn't imagine using this only with no cleanser afterwards (as some others do), it just didn't feel like it took enough off. I would sometimes have some residue left on my cotton ball when I used a toner after washing. Additionally, I still have to use jojoba as an eye make up remover even after using this *and* after cleanser, so clearly neither gets it all off. While its a decent makeup melt/pre cleanse, I don't love the thickness and smell. I also don't find it's special enough that I'd buy it again over a different cleansing oil. I didn't have any really dry skin or burning or breakouts from this (although it's hard to tell, really.) Sometimes I thought it might be causing some bumps, either from the Olive oil or something else but I'm not certain. So I totally get why people like it, but I also get why they don't. I ordered Kose and while I wait for it, I am using this.
