Whoever started this thread has been my lifesaver. I wish I could meet you and give you a hug. I screwed up my hair with the newfound rice water treatment. I did it once and loved it so much that I just kept putting rice water in my hair And sometimes putting it in and not rinsing it out. I have been experiencing much hair loss and to me this was my saving grace. I ended up with protein overload and I about died. My brain has not been working the last couple of weeks because of my hair loss. I have no idea why I did not read about protein overload, nor did I realize that it was going to damage my hair. I am Hispanic, part black and have curly hair with a medium texture. When I was very young my hair was so thick that I had to thin it out constantly. At that time it was short so I just had a fluff ball on the top of my head. I even bought my own thinning shears to thin it out whenever it got crazy. My hair was short for a very long time until I was in my 20s and started growing it long. Now I am 51 and my hair is part spiral and part S curls. I have been experiencing hair loss since 2016 from massive weight loss due to not eating, stress and depression. My life got better in 2017 but then went downhill again in 2018. My hair loss wasn’t that extreme in 2017 as I gained more weight and was very happy with my life. Here I am once again trying to figure out how I can stop my hair from falling out. So when I heard about that rice water treatment I jumped on the bandwagon. After my last rice water treatment, I washed my hair and when I came out of the shower it was like straw. I realized what I had done and could not believe it. My shed was so intense that I was shaking uncontrollably and cried for hours. While I was trying to stop my hair from shedding and hoping that it would grow faster with this treatment I messed it up even more. I started searching for ways to fix it and became very very scared until I found this thread. I read about clarifying shampoo and not using any products with protein in them. I then started looking at the ingredients on every single product that I own and found protein after protein after protein. I always wondered why my hair was so dry all the time and I was using so many different products. It wasn’t until this nightmare happened that I really learned a lot in a few days about protein and moisturizing hair. I literally spent at least eight hours a day reading everything I could on the Internet about how to fix my hair. I now realized that I have needed more moisturizing this whole time than protein. I have always used Argan oil, creams and even baby oil in my hair to add moisture. I just learned about petroleum and mineral oil products and how they’re not moisturizing at all, so I ditched those as well. I spent about 2 1/2 hours at Sally’s today looking at so many different kinds of moisturizing conditioner’s and treatments. EVERYTHING has some sort of protein, silk, coconut and silicones in them. I also learned through this nightmare that coconut oil can act as a protein. How ironic is it that I just bought a whole tub of organic coconut oil thinking that it was going to do my hair some good. While I was at Sally’s, I settled on a clarifying shampoo from Ion Purifying Solutions and The Mane Choice Accomplished Triple Layer Leave In cream that contains several different kinds of oils. I read on another blog about getting Suave Naturals Shampoo and conditioner as they don’t contain protein, but I could not find it in any stores near me so I settled on Aussie Moist S/C. I also purchased the Aussie Three Minute Miracle and a bottle of GEM EVOO at Walmart (it was inexpensive). I came home and clarified twice per the instructions on another blog, put in the 3 minute miracle mixed with a fork in a bowl with EVOO. I applied it to my hair and left it on for about 40 minutes. I wrapped my hair in a damp microwaved towel. I microwaved the towel a few times. I rinsed my hair out and finally used the Aussie Moist conditioner only and rinsed it quickly. I prayed so hard these few hours. When I let my hair down, I knew immediately that it was way better than it was before. I was able to comb through it with a wide tooth comb and I sprayed my Infusium leave in treatment that I have used forever and added The Mane Choice cream, Argan oil, more EVOO directly to my strands and lots of prayers. Upon my hair beginning to air dry, I knew it was cured. I didn’t have as much surface frizz and the texture even when wet was so much better and not strawlike. It’s about 90% perfect and so much better than before I started. I am going to use more moisturizing hair products and staying away from all of the proteins that I have been using. I am so glad to be a part of this blog to share my experience and pray that no one has to go through what I went through these last couple of weeks. Thank you to whoever mentioned using EVOO because I would have never thought of that. It was my saving grace. Hugs to everyone ???? Update 2-5-19 I took a better look at the Infusium spray leave in conditioner and it is chock full of amino acids so DO NOT USE if you’re having protein overload!! I have taken this out of my hair diet (hee hee). Yesterday I washed my hair with the Aussie Moist shampoo twice, added the Aussie Moist 3 Minute Miracle Deep conditioner mixed with EVOO, showered and shaved then rinsed out. Followed with the Aussie Moist conditioner and when I got out, my hair was like SILK! I still have a tiny bit of surface frizz in the area that I fried pretty bad and know that I am still in repair mode, but I am definitely going to call Aussie customer service and let them know that their products are my saving grace!! UPDATE 2-16-19 My hair is getting silkier and silkier with the Aussie, The Mane Choice, Argan and EVOO products!!!!
