This is a beautiful blue-red. Stunning color and impact. It is demi matte, and I find the formula hydrating (not drying like a lot of matte lipsticks tend to be). The color pay off is stunning!

Packaging: First and foremost, this lipstick is all about packaging. And, since the overall performance, including smell, texture, and colour payoff is so incredibly similar, if not exactly the same, as the drugstore version (L'Oréal Colour Riche) offered by the same company (L'Oréal). I will not be repurchasing this lipstick again.

Le Garance 197 (no doubt named after fashion blogging sensation and style maven, Garance Dore) is a rich, classic blue-red. The texture is demi-matte, silky and comfortable. The colour payoff and pigmentation are both very good; rich, dense colour and velvety application.

This lipstick has a very distinct scent, almost like the trace of perfume on a silk scarf, a recognizable combination of muted baby powder and roses, which makes it easily recognizable as a L'Oreal lipstick (if you own a L'Oreal Colour Riche lipstick and a Lancome L'Absolu Rouge lipstick, try smelling both of them––you will notice that the smell of the lipsticks is so similar as to be identical. Which makes me wonder if the actual quality of the product is also identical).

Considering the price, and quality, I won't fall for the marketing again. I'd rather just pay less for the dressed-down drugstore version (L'Oréal Colour Riche lipsticks) and get the same results and the same level of satisfaction from the same company.

I would not buy this product again for the reason that L'Oréal offers a very reasonably priced, nearly identical version of it at a much lower price-point. Prime example of how seductive great marketing can be. Sigh.
