I'm a big fan of science (almost majored in biology back in the day, and still slightly regret to this day that I didn't pursue it). I think that's a big reason why makeup and skincare products are so much fun for me to experiment with/learn the science behind (and probably lots of you as well!).

_It's OK to have Lead in Your Lipstick_ is a fun, informative and highly entertaining read about beauty and skincare products. It takes a science-based approach towards investigating (and often debunking) a broad array of concerns and questions. It was written by Perry Romanowski (a chemist) from the Beauty Brains blog — highly recommended as well if you love science AND beauty/skincare!

The book itself appears to be a compilation/expansion of posts from the blog and the six sections are organized thematically as follows:

1. Clever Lies the Beauty Companies Tell You
2. Scaremongering vs.Truly Scary (Are Cosmetics Safe?)
3. Makeup or Make Believe (Popular Beauty Myths)
4. Green Products — Green or Just Greenwashed?
5. Bizarre Beauty Ingredients [Note: I found this to be the weakest or at least the least useful section]
6. Does Anything Really Work?

I purchased this as an eBook for $2.99. Well worth it, even if some of the content is likely to be available on the blog as well. Fun read and broken down into many little sections so even if one topic doesn't interest you, the next one probably will.

FYI, I found the information in the book to be quite pragmatic, credible, unbiased and grounded. It does a great job of dispelling various myths and misleading claims, as well as explaining the science behind beauty and skincare products in clear language. You will be better informed and and a savvier consumer!
