"Contrasted and rich, Vetiver Oriental explores the chocolate redolent darkness of vetiver, the fragrant pale-beige roots of Indian grass. The scent of vetiver ranges from bitter grapefruit to soft woods and is underscored by earthy iris and creamy sandalwood. A spicy touch of benzoin and guaiac wood prolong the luxurious sensation of the composition."

The vetiver here is …

I like some vetiver fragrances, but not this one. To my nose it smelled a lot like walking into my hair salon, where everything they use is from Aveda. Overwhelming, a bit too vanilla-sweet, and overall unpleasant. Like at least a few other posters, I also got a strong whiff of burning rubber. I got this as a sample from Perfumed Court; I wish I'd gotten a smaller sample as this is …Read more

Like ocarina, I get burning rubber. It's a vanilla flavored burning vanilla rubber and it's submerged under a wonderful woody vetiver scent, but it never goes away and taints the whole thing. In the end it was too much and I scrubbed it off. My sister can wear it without the burning rubber notes, so if you like vetiver try it: It may work with your chemistry better than it does with …Read more

mmm! buttery leather, spicy old dark wood, complex rich green.. all blends to be feminine enough, exotic & sexy but not too much for casual or office. has slight sweetness & boozy element.

This is nice, but what I get from this is vetiver, lavender and incense - it's pretty, and warm. But I've smelled lots of vetivers, and this is the least impressive of the bunch. It's lacks the bracing presence of vetiver extraordinaire, the salty warmth of sel de vetiver, or the sheer smoky beauty of sycomore. It just left me wanting, and that's never promising...

Sadly, this was a scrubber on me. The opening was very sharp and harsh, with one note (perhaps the vetiver) that simply would not die down. I don't think it's much of an oriental either - just an unpleasant green fragrance.

I find this an interesting scent in that it unites opposites. It smells really clean, but it's also very sexy. And it smells crisp, but at the same time sultry. I think it would smell equally good on a man or a woman. As far as the notes go, with the spices, I seem to be smelling sandalwood, lime, and I could swear a touch of cumin. It reminds me of a Thai shredded green apple salad with …Read more

I get no chocolate from VO, unless it's chocolate that's been thrown into a tire fire. There is indeed a deeply sexy vetiver fragrance buried in here, too bad it's smothered by a persistent tarry/rubbery note on my skin. Still try it out, because Lutens' misses are still more interesting than most peoples' hits.

I love vetiver, and (generally) the deeper and darker the better. I get no thrill from Guerlain's Vetiver, for example, which I find too clean, almost soapy-smelling. In the vetiver spectrum, Vetiver Oriental is definitely darker than Guerlain's, and darker than Lorenzo Villoresi's, a favorite vetiver which has a wonderful woodsy edge. Vetiver Oriental is not quite as dark as …Read more

In two words: unparalleled, incomparable. This is not like any vetiver I have sampled before, and I have sampled a fair share of them. This is not your typical unisex vetiver scent that ends up being mostly masculine. "The unique is also the improbable"--except for Serge Lutens. This is a graceful and refined vetiver. This perfume is very well blended. The vetiver mingles beautifully …Read more
