OMG I have been wearing/ buying makeup for 11 years now and this is the absolute BEST purchase of my life. It is so much more beautiful in person!!! I am normally a neutral girl and decided to go a little out of my comfort zone and holy crap I am so #*%*&%$ happy. This may seem a little over the top but I am just (clearly not literally) speechless. There are awesome neutrals and then gorgeous bright colours that can add just a pop of beautiful colour. I may as well throw out all my other brands of makeup at this rate because KVDs products are unmatchable. Buy this. Buy it all haha! ♥

This is my first palette from Kat von D's line of cosmetics, and I must say I am super impressed. I had to choose between Chrysalis, Innerstellar, and Monarch. I decided to purchase the Chrysalis palette, because of the beautiful range of colors. First of all, let's talk packaging. Yes, it is a cardboard palette, but this sucker is stout. I mean, it is super heavy duty with a very strong magnetic closure. When you open it up there is a very generous sized mirror inside the lid, and it is flexible enough to bend the lid back whilst applying the shadows. My one big gripe about this palette is the names are not printed on the palette. I always find it disappointing when they do that. The palette layout, with names, is printed on the backside of the palette, which means if you're trying to figure out which shade you are wearing you have to flip it around every single time (or memorize all of the shadow names).

There are three large highlighting shades and nine standard size shades that range in finishes from matte to glittery and in both cool and warm tones. What I love about this palette is that depending on how you arrange your color combinations, or depending on what lip and cheek colors you pair with your eyeshadow look, these colors can work with warm or cool looks.

All but two of the shades are super buttery soft. Lifelike is a bit on the powdery side, but it's still very pretty. Tornay and Hybrid moments are bit on the dry, almost gritty, side and don't blend out as well as some of the other shades in the palette. They're still workable, but bear in mind you can't slap a bunch in the outer corner of your lid and then buff and blend into a perfect, softened look. Where you place it is pretty much where it stays and all a blending brush will accomplish is softening it around the edges.

Melancholia, which is a pearly silver shade, is one of my favorites in the palette. It is super pigmented, super metallic, and applies like a dream. I am also a fan of Black Milk, which is a pale matte grayish minty green blue shade. It's a trip, and very difficult to describe, but it is insanely gorgeous. In the pan and in photos just doesn't do it justice.

My other complaint is the lack of transition shades. Glasswing, which is very reminiscent of Salted Caramel from the Too Faced Chocolate Bar palette, is the only suitable transition shade in the palette. Black Milk is too pale and the other matte shades are too dark. The rest are all very shimmery/sparkly, making them less than ideal for application in the crease.

So, the lack of transition shades and not having the names printed by the pans caused me to ding one lippie from the total score. Still, this palette is a real winner in my book and I can't want to keep using it and creating bold, exciting looks with it.

First off, I really enjoy this palette. The colors are just gorgeous, and the packaging is beyond amazing. I find that Kat Von D has some of the most unique eyeshadow colors, and I love that!

There were two specific shades in this palette that grabbed my attention and made me think that I just HAD to buy it. Those shades were Mezzanine (a glittery pink-purple) and Entombed (a glittery blue). In the palette, those colors are amazing. Well, I swatched them out on my arm and realized that they came off pretty sheer. They weren't the gorgeous colors that they seemed to be in the palette. I was initially disappointed, but decided I could get them to work. And I did! A little of Too Faced Glitter Glue, and the colors looked vibrant and beautiful on my eyelids. Yay! It's just disappointing that I had to use other measures to get them to look "right". Also, Lucid came off a little crumbly, but the color did apply well on the lid. Just watch out for the fall out!

Aside from that, I truly do enjoy this palette. I've had a lot of fun with it and have created some beautiful looks!

First off, let me mention the packaging....so, so absolutely gorgeous, I'm in heaven. The Chrysalis palette does come in cardboard packaging which might throw some off, but I don't mind because it's large and substantial and seems very well made. The price of $46 makes me very happy as well, considering you get 12 full sized eyeshadows, 3 of which are actually double sized. The color selection is nice, nothing to write home about, I feel that you could probably find a dupe of most of the colors. However, you do get a nice mix of colorful shadows and neutrals and shimmers and mattes/satins which is crucial in a palette like this. Plus, there IS one extremely gorgeous shade which I love, Melancholia. It's a pearly gray color with an undercurrent of green to it that looks amazing on my green eyes.

The texture and consistency of the shadows seems pretty much equal to Kat Von D's other palettes and shadows, I find them to be extremely pigmented and dense. They do tend to powder up VERY easily, so my advice is to pat your brush on top of the shadow to pick up the color, don't swipe or you'll end up with way too much product on your brush and tons of fall out under your eyes. The staying power is comparable as well, apply these over a good primer and they'll stay put.

Overall I give this a rating of 5 lippies because I'm a HUGE fan of Kat Von D's products and this is a stand out item and must have if you love her line and artwork and packaging as much as I do. It's sexy and edgy but beautiful and feminine at the same time without being too girly. LOVE!!!!
