This is my second Serum de Rouge, my first one being the Rosewood Serum (740), which was a total HG for me. Having raved about the Dior Serum de Rouges on the MU Board and in reviews as much as I can, I was super excited for a new release of Serum de Rouges. For reference, I'm an NC25, NC20 when I'm really pale, and NC30 when tanned.
One thing I want to clarify about the Serum de Rouges is that people in the US seemed to be getting a different set of Serum de Rouges than I did here in Taiwan (and therefore Asia). From what I found, the shades that were the same for Asia and US is Pearly Pink (470), Radiant Pink (560), Pink Diva (670). Then, here in Asia we have a LE 580 Smoky Pink and there in the States they get Ruby (870), and Plum (880).
The shade Smoky Pink 580 is the first Limited Edition Serum de Rouge that Dior has come out with. It is a pinky mauve, to the point I sometimes wonder whether it is just a really cool pink. But it's still got that purpley tone in end. While my older Rosewood Serum is more creme, this has some pearl in it.
Also, I guess it is because it is a lighter color than my Rosewood Serum, so it is also sheerer than Rosewood Serum. I took a lippy off for that.
As an NC25 Asian, I feel this color, when layered to bit a more opaque (it never reaches that point, IMO), it is a lighter color than I feel comfortable with. I wish it can be just a bit more plummy and a shade or two darker, but I'm sure it would be gorgeous on lighter skin tones.
This lipstick comes in a very beautiful and elegant navy packaging with Dior's signature cane motif. The packaging quality is great, it clicks up, but you can also click it back down (something you can't do with a lot of click lipsticks). This clicking system is really good because it keeps the edge of the lipstick "sharp" so that when I apply there is a little bit of definition. Also, clumsy as I am, I break lipsticks easily from dropping them, and this clicking packaging helps to prevent that.
You are supposed to click just enough up for one application, so that it is barely out of the tube. Dior says it is about 2 clicks per application.
Although it is considered a sheer lipstick, you can still layer up (using a lip brush can help). It can be applied more sheerly, for just a little color on your lips, if you dab on.
It definitely feels quite buttery to apply, but it is not so soft as to be squishy. It is very moisturizing, but you need to apply enough of it on your lips, like two coats, for it to feel moisturizing, I never need to put balm underneath.
It smells like Dior's Cature Totale skincare, which I like a lot better than, say, Dior's Addict Ultra Shine gloss's scent. It smells very soothing and I like it alot.
Lasting Power:
It is a sheer lipstick so one must keep in mind that it's texture makes its lasting power weaker.Without anything underneath, and without eating and drinking, it can last around four hours on me, maybe even more but I start to eat after four hours. xD
The formula is amazing, I really love the Serum de Rouge formula and scent. However, this really isn't the color for me. I will finish it, but I would rather spend my $32 on another Serum de Rouge than this one.
