To give you some background, I am a huge fan of BB's line of cream eye shadows, Cement, Slate, Galaxy and Stone have been staples in my collection for years. My only small gripe with this collection in general is the packaging, I find the clunky glass jars pretty, but not very practical: I would prefer a lightweight jar for travel with a wider opening. But the less than ideal packaging has not prevented me from repurchasing these great shadows several times. However, I over time tried several of the Metallic shades - Velvet Plum, Moonlight, Smoky Topaz - which are all absolutely gorgeous sampled on the back of my hand, but ended up as complete fails on my lids: These Metallic shades went on patchy with globs of glitter and color in some places on my lids and nothing in others. Blending or applying more did not lead to a better result either. When I would apply these Metallic shades with the BB cream shadow brush it would look somewhat more even, but then my lids ended up looking crepey and dry - which is obviously not what I was going for. So I had honestly given up on the Metallic cream shadows altogether.
Fast forward to Mercury: This shade is part of the "Pretty Powerful Coffee to Cocktails" set with four products which I ordered from the BB website. Two of the products in the set (Steel Long Wear Eye Shadow and Brownie Pink Lip Color) are discontinued favorites of mine that I really wanted, so I was willing to accept one dud. I was fully expecting Mercury would be the same letdown on me as the previously tried Metallics, and I was prepared to try it once and throw it out.
After trying it twice now I have to say I am pleasantly surprised! Mercury is extremely light and sheer therefore it applies more evenly with a softly light grey base and silvery sparkles. I wore it once on its own and just added liner and the second time I applied it over Slate and it wore beautifully as well, Staying power is great as with all BB Long Wear Eye Shadows, and the glitter fallout is minimal. So either this shade due to its light color is more forgiving or BB changed the formula, either way, after all the misses with BB's Metallic cream shadows I am happy to say I finally found a surprise winner, and I may even repurchase.

I really love Bobbi Brown's Long-Wear Cream Shadows, and the shade Mercury was the first metallic version that I tried.

Mercury is a sparkling smokey silver gray. It's really beautiful!

It goes on a little sheer, but is easily buildable.

The shade is metallic, but I'd say it's also important to note that it is also sparkly (not glittery).

Normally love Bobbi's products but I do not like the metallic cream shadows. Mainly because they do not go on evenly. I applied this with the cream shadow brush (bobbi's) and despite rubbing and rubbing, I just end up with globs of glitter in some places and none in others. Also, this color is very dark gray in the pot and just silver glitter on the eyes. not for me.

I have to rave about this product!
In the beginning, I didn't like this at all. I had been using UDPP, or benefit creaseless cream shadows as bases, and primers.. (One or the other, I don't ever use both at the same time, gets cakey.)

I thought this was too sticky, and my shadows just glopped on top of this glitter shadow.
But this is actually a fabulous base. It also grabs onto pigments from the shadows you're using, even if its a less higher end one like Maybelline.

This is a light silver sheen, with minute white, mint green, and pink pearls. There isn't a gritty feeling like the new paint pots that have been released from Champale.

I'd ignored acknowledging this product, until I realized that this was getting a huge dip from me picking it up to use so often!

Total HG.

A tiny con (or pro) is that when I use this on the bottom lid, sometimes I get light reflecting in my eyes from this product. It's interesting, but usually doesn't happen unless I'm at a dinner party. Personally I don't mind, but I can imagine some may.

i love this stuff. i put a thin layer all over my lids before applying my liner. it's really pretty and sparkly silver but with one thin layer it's not too obnoxious. it also has pretty good staying power. i will probably purchase this in more colors.

Mercury is by far my favorite Bobbi Brown eyeshadow! I use it in the crease as well as a highlighter. It's a versatile silver shade with light blue undertones which instantly makes me look awake! I love it!

Mercury is exactly that -- the color of mercury in a thermometer. It's sheer but still has depth. I only use it as a highlight shadow, but I like it very much.
