So I love this. Its 85 degrees out and I am wearing it. It is light and dark at the same time so I find that I can wear it in the heat. I have the new round black bottle and I do miss the organic stone shaped bottle but other than that, this is totally unique and uplifting for me. There really is nothing like it.
The only fly in the ointment for me is that this is fleeting on me. By fleeting I mean it will last about 4 hours on me. Still, it is worth it.

This was a gift from a friend. The most striking thing about the packaging is how (dare I say) sexy it is! Lol! The bottle is an organic shape and has no product info on it. It does not have a flat surface for it to stand upright. Nope. It just lays, lol. It looks really cool in a modern environment (imho) because it looks as if it could be a small sculpture.

Now to the fragrance. It's intense. It seems to have a yin/yang thing going on on the one hand it's warm leather, amber, musk, woods and on the other side it' seems to have a floral or two going on - maybe jasmine? A little goes a long way and I prefer to wear it in the cooler months. I would not have purchased this for myself so I'm especially glad it was a gift. Perfect for winter weekends.

I do really like this fragrance, however have a real problem with its staying power. I literally spray it and 2 minutes later it is gone, even on my clothes! Really upsetting, won't be repurchasing. But I gave it a four because it doesn't seem like many others are having this problem, so it must just be me!

this fragrance is nothing like that fabulous description below with ferrets and seals and Zsa Zsa Gabor mentioned. but I can't say i'm disappointed. it's a wonderful campfire in late fall, with sandalwood incense burning right up front and a warm cup of chai in front of your nose. there are no animals here, just trees and earth. no aging celebrities or aftershave. nothing retro about it. modern earth momma, just like you'd expect donna karan to smell at midnight in Maine.

Femininite du bois is the fragrance that broke open my love for fragrances and this is the first time in my exploration that i've really felt there was a soulmate for that exquisite scent. they are like fraternal twins. the FdB woman is a mysterious sophisticate, artsy, aloof and attending the opera in a one-of-a kind outfit. her BK twin, meanwhile is getting her hands dirty in paint and clay and wearing the same fabulous outfit as her twin, but she's been living in it for a week and it has become a part of her body.

Well, I never tried this, but I'm sure it must be wonderful. It's got all the attributes of all the great scent: discontinued, almost impossible to find (even online), and if you find it, it costs the earth. Shoot.

To keep this simple, I'm a "leather/wood/amber/musk" addict with a bright, happy floral side. After sampling hundreds of fragrances at this point and owning over a 100, with Boudior and most of the Chanels as HG's, it was love at first and 50th sniff of Black Cashmere. It has all the sexy comfort of Boudior but less in your face brashness. It truly "feels" like a warm, cashmere sweater on a cool night, comfortable, warm, and inviting. Like any decent HE it develops over time, and at least for me, every stage is brilliant. Well concieved, perfectly executed, a classic. Not sure where the 80's comparisons are coming from - this is more of a "skin scent" for me. But always a good idea to sample because, of course, our tastes and chemistrys differ. A keeper and a definite repurchase!

Holy labdanum, batman... This is a glorious spicy amber-oriental, perfect for winter; if you have had the pleasure of being in a home heated with real logs in a wood-burning stove, you may recognize the characteristic scent that fills the house in this fragrance. When I first sniffed it I immediately went back to that distinctive childhood smell. Getting more specific and more technical, "amber", as distinguished from ambergris, is a traditional middle eastern blend of resins used in perfumery, usually benzoin + labdanum + styrax. The term "amber" is also sometimes used as a shorthand for any of these ingredients used on their own. Amber oriental fragrances are those that feature this traditional resinous accord prominently, and DK Black Cashmere most definitely fits the bill. The fragrance smells primarily of labdanum absolute: sweet, deeply resinous, warm, woody, mildly medicinal ...But Black Cashmere is accented with hints of pepper, clove, cedar, etc, all complimenting and elevating the dominant labdanum note into heights of 'cold-weather-perfect' complexity. A real beauty, it was discontinued for a couple years, but has now been brought back in a different bottle.

I have both the old formulation/bottle, and a sample of the newest (released around 2008). LOVE them both. This is dark, sexy, spicy, and has the staying power of an annoying relative's visit during the holidays. It took several tries before I could truly appreciate it's beauty, but now I'm hooked on this fall/winter fragrance staple. I do believe it is too much for warmer weather and I find myself switching to something a little more light-hearted around springtime. Otherwise, this timeless beauty will forever be in my fragrance wardrobe - top of the list, no less!

Snowflakes are billowing around in a furious cloud, the sky is gray, and the air is frigid and bitter, it's the perfect time of year to pull out Donna Karan's Black Cashmere.
Black Cashmere is not what I would think of as cuddly or soothing, but it fits my mood when the temperature drops. This is a dark smell that brings to mind incense and burning wood. I don't think everyone can pull this scent off, nor will everyone like it. It's a scent for an eccentric and confident woman. A woman who is drawn to the dramatic, the unconventional, the earthy, and the darker things in life. It's a strong scent with decent sillage, so take heed when spraying this on. This would be very sexy for a night on the town, but could work well during the day if sprayed on in moderation. This is one of the scents that I spray on and think to myself "This is ME." If you relish in the oddities of the world, consider yourself a black sheep, and you adore the smell of incense and woods, I'd highly suggest checking out Black Cashmere.

This is a "raw" incense fragrance that is not sweet at all and can be easily considered unisex. Notes of cedar and patchouli are also very prominent as well as the labdanum which provides this somehow medicinal note. Good sillage and long-lasting. Interesting and quite original but a little bit too austere for me.
