This product is just way too difficult to get out of the tub! It's a hard solid mass, whether it's winter or summer! The smell and color seem to be what unrefined shea butter should be like. That said, I really don't like the smell, but it does dissipate after a while. I can also use it on my face without any reaction. Just not wowed by this. The main reason I can't even be bothered to finish it is because it's such a pain to get out of the tub, melt, apply. Too bad cos now I have a whole jar of it left! Meh.

There are two kinds of out of Africa organic Shea butter, the raw kind and the kind that comes in a metal tin. I bought the raw shea butter. While I like the product, I cannot use it because of the very strong burnt (campfire) smell. I'm hoping some kind of essential oil may make it tolerable otherwise I have just wasted $10.00.

This comes in several different scents, but I bought the unscented one. I wanted to try this because I have found this ingredient to be very effective as part of the overall formulation of some of my favorite lipbalms, like Jack Black Intense Therapy and Chapstick Lip Butter, but it does not work as well in 100% concentration as it does as part of those products. I was very disappointed in it overall. It is a solid in the jar that is very hard to spread, which makes it inconvenient. For hair, it provides conditioning but makes hair greasy. For skin, it moisturizes, but it is greasy, and doesn't do as good a job as my favorite Gold Bond Ultimate Lotions. Shea butter is reputed to be noncomedogenic, but I did not try it on my face, because I didn't care for it. Lastly, it was kind of pricey at $8 an ounce. I found it at Wegmans. Another thing is that the lid keeps falling off the tin, which is why I gave the packaging a very low score.

This is organic, unrefined shea butter. I have been looking around for a shea butter tin to take with me for beneath my eyes as a barrier for when I run or am out in the cold/soon-to-be-heat, as well as for a decent hand cream, touch-up-body moisturizer without leaving a film, over all wonderful product. Shea butter is fantastic, it moisturizes without leaving a greasy film behind and works as a barrier against water loss which is a God-sent for anyone who spends any time outdoors, frequently washing their hands, etc. basically anyone who puts their skin under stress. I had been reading about shea butter on Point of Interest! (http://swiftcraftymonkey.blogspot.com) and figured I had to try it out, (I highly recommend checking out that site for MUCH more info than I am able to provide). The brand itself seems to be very willing to contribute back to their community (communities) that they are working with from Africa. I typically use an oil blend all over my face, especially beneath my eyes (love John Masters Organics Pomegranite Oil and Peter Rabbit Baby Body Oil--without any breakouts on my rosacea-like sensitive skin--but there are times when carrying around an oil to touch up with beneath my parched eyes just gets too fussy and messy) so this was right up my alley for a touch up, esp to *prevent* moisture loss. I'd recommend a patch test on your face before using, simply because everyone reacts differently and this could be heavy for some. Edit: this stuff does something wonderful for my eye area. I'm not sure how exactly, but it just softens all of those fine dry lines and makes that area look dewy. HG for eye area.
