I like this toner, though I don't think it's necessarily better than Paula's Choice CLEAR toner for acne breakouts. I actually use PC at night after removing makeup and cleansing, and use this one in the morning because I don't think it's strong enough for my major breakout-prone skin at night. That said, it feels nice, has no odor, and has a modest amount (1%) of salicylic acid. No burning, peeling, or other side effects.

I can't believe I haven't yet reviewed this incredible toner! I use the FR Hydrating Emulsion daily and the Sensitive Skin Cleansing Gel is in my rotation -- and the Salicylic Antiseptic Toner fits in perfectly with my gentle skincare routine. It reminds me of Clinique Mild Clarifying Lotion, but BETTER! It's alcohol-free and contains a tiny bit of salicylic acid to slightly exfoliate, while improving skin's texture and tone. It feels almost like water going on the skin -- gentle and soothing. My skin is combo/oily and sensitive/acne-prone and I can see a difference in my skin with this toner. I think it can work well for most skintypes. I purchase through FR's website: http://facerealityacneclinic.com/products.php

UPDATE (12/31/09) So it's time for an update. I've upped my rating to 5 lippies. This toner has grown on me and proven to be a winner. I'm now using it twice/daily after using the Sensitive Skin Cleansing gel. I take back any and all reservations. For the record, I've contacted FR and the amount of salicylic acid is 1%. Love it.

ORIGINAL REVIEW: I feel very conflicted about this toner. 4 Lippies is probably being generous for this formulation. Benzoic acid ranks as 2 for comedogencity and 3 for irritancy. While I think FR's sensitive skin cleansing gel and the hydrating emulsion are outstanding (10 Lippie status IMO), I have reservations regarding this toner. Still.....I like using it occasionally even though it's not a slam-dunk like other FR products. I will update at a later time. continued >>

I love this toner because it does not contain alcohol (hard to find one that doesn't!), so it does not dry out my skin. It contains just a small amount of salicylic acid, so its not meant to be a primary acne treatment product. I use it in the morning after washing my face, before using my other skin care products.

Its really light, doesn't sting when I apply it and gets rid of any leftover flakies on my skin. I've been using it for over 2 yrs now and it still gives me great results.
