I am occasionally in the mood for violet, and I like Creed very much. I am looking for a Creed that would be full bottle worthy (I have a lot of manufacturers samples). Love in Black however is too gourmand sweet or candied and powdery for my taste. IMO, The cedar doesn't really cut the sweetness or lift the fragrance as cedar usually does. Love in Black also turns a bit dry and powdery on me, and it's not a combination of factors that I find enthralling enough to justify a purchase. I should add that the Creeds that I do adore tend to be a mixed lot ranging from the very sweet Fleurs de Bulgarie to the tradional, somewhat masculine Bois de Portugal, or one of my favorite summer scents Aventus. I am also a fan of fragrances that others find too powdery such as FM Iris Poudre or Guerlain Chamade extrait.

It doesn't help the cause of Love in Black that I already have SL Bois Violet and Sheisedo Fem de Bois (a plummy Violet wood) which I like very much. Both BV (which is not as honeyed as some of the other Bois) and FdB are sweetened, but not as sugared as Creed Love in Black.

I also already have and love Dominique Ropions Aimez Moi for Caron which is a delicious spiced refreshingly cool crisp violet (squat one ounce bottle, blue stopper for a very reasonable price) Although Ropions violet is sweet, it is NOT gourmand. And it is moist. More like chilled wine. I sense pear in it also, though I don't think pear is in the notes. I am a fan of Caron generally, but I can say that Aimez moi is nothing like a typical Caron; it has no caronade; it's not at all dusky; and, it's quite modern for a violet centric fragrance.

Note: I have a sample of Tom ford Violet Blonde somewhere. I remember thinking that was artificial and somewhat rubbery, so I would prefer Creed to that one. . . Although a reviewer below had Love in Black turn plastic on her, thankfully, this did not happen to me.

So, I would conclude, even though skin chemistry is not problematic here, Love in Black doesn't quite make the cut for me. Note: if I had to designate a fragrance in my collection as "Love in black," I would probably not nominate a Violet, but a dark unsweetened rose, something like Voleur de Roses (the original one by L'artesan) or Montales Black Oud.

Although I own several Creed fragrances Love in Black is my favorite! The soft sweet scent of violet is downright magical! The sweet powdery violet aroma makes me feel so gorgeous and ladylike. A light hand should be used when applying this beauty since the longevity is quite long (usually eight to twelve hours).

The official notes are: wildflowers, cedar, violets, iris, clove, tonkin musk, blackcurrant and Bulgarian rose. The top notes of Love in Black are soft and violet. Thereafter, a plumminess develops that doesn't really point to any of the official notes. Black currant is usually sharper than what I'm sniffing here. As it dries down, I get a tinge of what seems like guaiac. It actually reminds me very much of Sonoma Scent Studio's Wood Violet but with more musk. It surprises me that Creed claims Jackie O as the inspiration for this scent. She is a classic style icon, and this is not a classic fragrance. That said, I can kind of see her wearing this in her later years as Mrs. Onassis-Jackie O reinvented, perhaps.

Creed's are the only scents I buy for myself - they're absolutely gorgeous. I'm so sad to see so many reviews complaining, but your own skin chemistry and scent DO strongly affect how fragrances work on you, so I highly recommend trying a sample first if you have any doubts. At present, I'm a lucky bunny in that a scent smells exactly the same on me as it does in the bottle...

Love in Black is a gorgeous scent - primarily violet, but like most of Creed's floral scents, it is not overly sweet, just pure. Conjures images of a gorgeous secluded forest at dusk to me - romantic and mysterious (colour me cheesy but whatever, lol). One thing I adore about Creed parfums is that they have NO alcohol in them, yet they last ages: if I spray in the morning, it will still be gently wafting in the evening.

I don't like floral scents for everyday, so I usually only use this one on nights out/special occasions, and I cannot tell you how many compliments I've received on it.

Price is... hefty, I won't lie, however I think these scents are well worth the price tag as they are long lasting and unique. Packaging is GORGEOUS - I honestly feel like a princess every time I whip a Creed bottle out or have them sitting on my shelves/vanity.

I love this scent. It agrees with my chemistry. It is a very different fragrance and the NM sales person told me that it is not for everyone. They sell more Love in White there than anything else. But I do think this fragrance will grab a man's attention. My boyfriend (ex-boyfriend now) liked this one and Silver Water a lot.

WARNING: This fragrance is not going to work well on everyone, but the ones that do (like myself) it is a knock out. I get so many compliments when I wear love in black it is amazing, like no other fragrance I have worn. I have had other friends try it on and it has smell awful on them, so I highly suggest trying it on before u buy it. Next time your in the mall just stop by a creed counter and have them spray it on you and continue shopping. IT IS AMAZING if it works well on you. It is the ultimate sexy fragrance.

This lingers on me with a prominent stale popcorn aroma that is very unpleasant.

I don't know why this got so many mixed reviews. From the instant I sprayed this and wore it, it was love at first scent. This is truly a unique scent. It's a complex floral with spices, like nothing I've smelled before. For me it lasts for hours and hours, and the scent alters into a deep, haunting violet. Tones of caramel and vanilla also loom at first spray, but again, this definitely changes with wear. I even bought the matching deodorant to go with it. I love this scent so much! Again, I don't get the mixed reviews - but then again, another CREED scent - Tuberose Indiana - got slightly better reviews and to me that is a horribly heavy scent. So to each their own I guess!

I tend to be swept away by perfume bottle appearance, and this fragrance has a divine, edgy bottle, as well as a very appealing name. I always hope for some "black", dark feel in the scents I choose, and although I did not sense any "black" emanating from this fragrance, it was strange enough a scent to trigger my curiosity. Unfortunately it did not interact with my pH. It barely lasted an hour on my skin although it was wonderful while it did. I think I lack the chemistry for this perfume, and it is too bad.

O hello sexy.

Fellow violet lovers such as my self, this is a must! Personified, this fragrance would be a tale of tarnished innocence, a half consciousness. A sweet, innocent teenage girl wearing a white muslin dress smelling the flowers in a field of violets. Fast forward in time, a woman sits in a dirty bar, smoking and drinking her fifth manhattan. Her black lacy dress riding up her thighs, her makeup smudged, her long dark hair matted. Empty eyes. Damaged. Her red painted lips, worn and bleeding contemplate suicide. Contemplate murder.
