You would be better off just getting some Sephora catalogs since they recycled photos for this boring book. A catalog is also more honest. At least you expect it trumpet products. It's not really too surprising to see pages of all the products you can buy from Sephora or interviews with the founders of brands sold by Sephora. However, you would also expect more.

I thought this book will teach you how to achieve different looks. The first 20 pages or so are educational( they tell you what to eat, how to cover blemishes, etc) but after that I stopped reading. I think the last half of the book are just designers talking about who knows what. Nothing interesting though, because I don't remember anything but pictures of people smiling. I was extremely disappointed, especially when this is a SEPHORA book, It SHOULD be the UNTIMATE guide to makeup, but I don't know, seemed like I was reading another magazine. They should change the title to a book on makeup and people =_________=

I actually liked this book, for some of the reasons it has NOT been liked. I like that it reads like a magazine, and that it has some stories about founders of some of the brands. It gives face and meaning to what you use. It's like having a Sephora SA in your home! It's also not as expensive as other makeup books.

When I first saw this book was coming out I was ecstatic. I am a novice when it comes to applying makeup, so I thought it would be a great how-to book. Unfortunately there was probably less than 20 pages of actual makeup tips. The rest was filled w/unnecessary chatter from makeup company execs a/b what beauty means to them, their favorite products, what a day is like in their life, etc. etc. I was so disappointed, the book definitely did not live up to the hype :/

This book is what I expected it to be, in terms of content. It gives some basic makeup, skin and hair how-to and advice, it has short interviews with founders of assorted Sephora-stocked brands, it has an ingredient glossary, and a top-100 product section, all products available from Sephora. The advice was mediocre, you would do better to come to makeupalley for advice; it read much like Allure magazine, only not as good. The interview section was the best part of the book, but not worth the cost of the book itself. I collect makeup books, and compared to other books I own, this book is very elementary. First, the content itself is basic and the idea that this book contains "beauty insider" information, otherwise unavailable to you and me, is silly. In addition, the formatting of this book is very very cheap. The font and pictures are giant size, which stretches out the length of the book. Make the font and pictures normal size, and you have a book half this length. The glossary section is a great example of this; giant font, and a lot of white space. The top-100 products section also features abnormally-large pictures and font. In addition, throughout my book, the actual text is missing in places, cut off by the pictures, or just simply missing, such as drop-off sentences. It is as if a picture was copied and pasted in, over the text, and amazingly, no one noticed. I read this book cover to cover, and the number of times the text dropped off or was missing was unbelievably sloppy. Also, towards the front end of my book, several pages have red ink smeared, and print smeared across the page. It looks as though the original smeared, and again, no one noticed, so subsequent copies were printed the same way, with smears. Is there no quality control at this publisher? Really, I can live with the basic content, as I figured this would be like a giant Sephora catalog, only without prices listed. It is. However, the print quality on this book, and the blatent attempt to take minimal content and stretch it across the length of a book, is pathetic. The book's cover price is $27.95, though I paid less than $20 online. It is not worth the cover price, for sure. I would recommend trying to get this at your local library before buying.
