Sunscreen -Drunk Elephant -Umbra Sheer Physical Defense SPF 30

I'm trying a sample and so far I like this. I was specifically looking for an everyday mineral based sunscreen without silicone for my sensitive, acne-prone skin and this was recommended to me. Yes the texture feels thick and suncreen-y when applying, but it sinks in fast and I totally forget about it after a minute. My skin felt nice all day, didn't get oily, and my makeup looked good - awesome! Worth the initial distaste over the texture for me. I didn't notice any white cast or pilling.

Moisturizers -Drunk Elephant -Protini Polypeptide Cream

For skin/face comparison's sake: I have middle aged, dry, extremely sensitive skin and a long history of rosacea and peri-oral dermatitis. On a bad day, even plain warm water on a wash cloth is enough to turn me into a flaky, red tomato covered in tiny red bumps.

Drunk Elephant's press makes a big deal about eliminating the "suspicious 6", common skin care ingredients that are frequent irritants and impede healthy skin. They also claim that their products are so inert, so good for human skin, if you have a reaction, it's absolutely something else you're using on your face. I have such a terrible history with skin care products, I drank the Kool-Aid and went all in on their products.

The Protini moisturizing cream is super light and has a really nice consistency...and sting my face like mad the very second I applied it. I turned bright red, my face burning, little tiny inflammatory bumps popping up everywhere, the skin below my lips on fire. I washed it off immediately, but I've had pretty angry skin ever since (a week now). DE claims it must be some other product I am using, but I've been using nothing other then DE for a week.

So, user beware. If you have sensitive skin that sounds like mine, I would skip this one. Their LaLa Retro Whipped, however, feels *amazing* and I have had no reaction at all. Go figure.

Eye Makeup Remover -Drunk Elephant -Slaai Makeup Melting Butter Cleanser

foto

This is a oil based cleansing balm, intended to be used on dry skin, to emulsify make up and physical sunscreen, and then rinsed off. I won't go into the details of the product, as the first reviewer did a fabulous job describing it.

For skin/face comparisons sake, I have dry, *extremely* sensitive skin. On a bad day, even plain warm water on a wash cloth turns me into a flaky red tomato face with teeny bumps everywhere. I have rosacea and a long history of peri-oral dermatitis.

I've been experimenting with the DE product line, as they make a big deal about excluding ingredients that I know I am sensitive to. Even without the "suspicious 6", as their PR calls it, many of the DE products sting like mad and turn my face bright red.

Sadly, the Slaai cleansing balm is a total and utter no-go on my face. I immediately turned bright red and all those little inflammation bumps popped right up. It's a shame, as it did a great job removing the tinted physical sunscreen I was wearing.

Drunk Elephant likes to say that their products are completely non-irritating and that if you develop inflammation, it's something else you're using on your face. Well, I'm currently using *nothing* other than DE and this still chapped the shit out my face. Be forewarned, it's simply not for everyone.

Cleansers -Drunk Elephant -Beste Jelly Cleanser

Beste Jelly Cleanser is a mediocre product. It's very basic, slightly drying, and overpriced for what you get. If price is no consideration, you might enjoy this if you have oily skin. I received a deluxe sample of this. I would not purchase this product.

Moisturizers -Drunk Elephant -B-Hydra Intensive Hydration Gel

I decided to try "the littles" to see what the hype was all about. This one didn't do anything for me. Nice consistency, didn't break me out but it didn't do anything either.
I have dry skin and an intense hydration boost sounded like a good idea but... that didn't really happen. May work for someone with oilier skin but I think oily skin can do with a good moisturiser and just doesn't need this type of serum that needs something ontop of it. I guess I just don't get the market for this one.
It's good packaging so I have it with me if I have long day and I need hydration mid-day, much like I would use any other light moisturiser when I have no makeup on. But it just doesn't add anything to my 'regular' routine.

This sunscreen moisturizes and feels comfortable. It’s for indoors/low sweaty conditions. It is physical so there is an initial white cast, which i like because i can see where I’ve put it and where needs more. This does not pill on me as everyone else claims, but i do not wear anything else on top. It does dry down and does not accentuate my fine lines and wrinkles. I have dry skin and this is enough moisture on top of a serum and emulsion. The zinc oxide also helps with sensitivity and redness. I have purchased this more than several times over the past few years...Loves!!

I got the travel size that was included in the January birthday gift. I used it for a week and have not experienced such dry skin in my life. I like other Drunk Elephant products, but my combo skin could not handle this. Maybe it would work well for oily skin? DEFINITELY keep away from the eyes. It didn't sting but was too harsh for my eye area. Left my skin cracked after daily use and would instantly feel tight minutes after applying. I would not use to take off eye makeup. The consistency reminds me of a hand soap or brush cleanser. Unfortunately, I don't recommend.

Eye Makeup Remover -Drunk Elephant -Slaai Makeup Melting Butter Cleanser

Drunk Elephant came out with it's latest product, Slaai, a makeup removing balm.  This is meant to be applied with dry hands to a dry face, and rinse with warm water after massaging the balm to oil cleanser over your skin.  The Drunk Elephant Slaai Makeup Melting Butter Cleanser also comes with a small vial of Bamboo Booster exfoliating powder.  The Bamboo Booster is meant to be added to the Slaai Balm once or twice a week to exfoliate and remove dead skin cells that sit at the surface of skin.

Slaai is well designed.  It comes with a magnetic little spoon, which magnets to the lid of the balm.  Very nice, won't be losing this scooper.  The balm melts nicely over skin and rinses off very clean.  Immediately after rinsing the balm off my face felt clean and soft.  I used Slaai to remove a lot of makeup, foundation, sunscreen, face powder, bronzer, blush, eyeshadow, mascara, and lip gloss.  I found that Slaai did a great job removing almost everything.  My cotton pad (soaked with toner) only showed a very small amount of leftover residue.

I love that the formula doesn't have any fragrance or scent.  This makes it an ideal makeup removing balm for sensitive skin.  The formula also boasts several beneficial ingredients and oils.  Safflower seed oil, sunflower seed wax, olive fruit, kiwi fruit, and much more.

My only slight disappointment is that after using the Slaai Makeup Melting Butter Cleanser was that my skin did feel dry after using it.  My skin is typically very dry, however, most of the time I use balm to oil cleansers, such as this one, my skin typically feels soft and hydrated.  Although this could be due to a little burn I gave myself two days ago.  I'll certainly keep using it and see.

My video review and demonstration can be seen here-

Skincare - Face -Drunk Elephant -C-Firma Day Serum

DE is my second Vit C serum. I switched over from Timeless CE Ferulic (which irritated my skin) as this has a higher pH so I felt my skin responded better to it. Smells to me like canned corn and the smell does linger a bit. But it absorbs well and I feel no irritation. Also my lotion and sunscreen layers well over it. I got it from Sephora and it came relatively fresh (light yellow tint). Keeping it in my fridge to play safe, I like it but don’t love it so prob won’t be repurchasing after finishing this bottle as I feel there are other products at similar price points which I want to try.

Lip Treatments -Drunk Elephant -Lippe Balm

I am a lip balm junkie. I have a few from Fresh that I like (sugar, caramel, advanced therapy). I have used Young Living, Mary Kay, Origins, Nuxe, MAC, Burt’s Bees, Clarins, Dior, Dr Hauschka, Aveda, Bobbi Brown, and more I can’t even recall. I like this one. It’s a thinner more slippery texture. I usually apply it at night. I think it feels nice and works well for me. Not drying. It’s not thick, so if you want that go for Nuxe.

I’m really surprised by all of the horrible reviews that DE is getting on MUA. I gave sensitive skin when it comes to essential oils and botanicals and all the other additives other brands put in their products. This is a basic cleanser. It is for me, a step 2 in double cleanse or a one step if I’m not wearing makeup. It’s not a wow wow amazing product. It’s probably a bit overpriced. I can see how it could be drying for some. I don’t know. I like it so far!

Edit: I still think it is nice but pretty basic. I think maybe the price point is too high?! $$$

Treatments (Eye) -Drunk Elephant -C-Tango Multivitamin Eye Cream

Nice to look at, but it's a no for me.

While my acne prone, clog prone facial skin can be a combination mess, my undereyes are dry, tight and crepey. Yay ageing : (

I tried C-Tango soon after it was released last year based on hype and hope that it would help my under eye situation. I am sad to say that it did not. For me it was not hydrating at all. It did not brighten. It left me Sahara dry and caused little red bumps under my lashline, and from time to time caused tearing.

The price is horrific, even in an over saturated, over priced market where premium prices are becoming the norm for skincare. I passed on my unused product to a friend and will not purchase again. As much as I want to buy into the cuteness of the DE line (and have the money to burn to purchase), none of the products worked for me.

So interesting to read that many others had skin reactions and break outs to this product. This was my first Drunk Elephant product.

I personally really like this cream- its cooling, relatively unfragranced, it plumps and hydrates the skin and I swear I look quite radiant from the plumping effect.
The only thing is it leaves a very very slight film and takes a minute to absorb but compared to The Ordinary Buffet it absorbs better!!

Treatments (Face) -Drunk Elephant -A-Passioni Retinol Cream

I have been user of ROC Deep Wrinkle Night cream for years but I wanted a retinol treatment that was stronger. I received a deluxe sample of this from Sephora (it might have been a 500 point perk and came with another DE moisturizer). This is housed in a metal tube. Per the instructions you are to use a pea-sized amount-I used more than this the first night but then realized a pea-sized amount really will cover your entire face, so there is no need to waste product. The first day my skin did look great and very plump and smooth, but I did notice in direct sunlight after putting on my makeup that there is was peeling around my chin. For those who are concerned about that, this is normal with retinol use. I have used this three more days so far and I feel that my skin really does look smoother. I just use this in conjunction with a heavier moisturizer and I have used an exfoliating scrub as well to counteract the peeling. I do feel that this is more effective than the ROC treatments I have previously used so I will be buying the full size version of this when I finish the sample. I've had a couple of breakouts on my cheeks prior to using this and I feel like that has dried them out/sped up healing on those as well.

Treatments (Eye) -Drunk Elephant -C-Tango Multivitamin Eye Cream

I bought this for my husband and I to try. For my husband, who has never used an eye cream, it did okay and somewhat helped his undereye area as far as brightening and dryness. Nothing to write home about but something is better than nothing. For me, it pilled horribly and didn't absorb well. No matter how little or how much I applied (anywhere from a quarter pump to a whole pump), it made applying concealer difficult and caused my undereye area to look very crepe-y. I feel as though this eye cream has aged the look of my undereyes, if anything. Being that I'm only 25 and have never had this problem, I'm really disappointed. I wanted to love this so bad but have had better results with eye creams half the price of this. I can't justify bullheadedly "making it work" for this price tag, so it'll have to be my first Sephora return. On the bright side, I could see this eye cream possibly working for someone with dryer, more mature skin type than I and am grateful that this at least did not give me milia.
