Q: Where is my email to activate my registration?

A: Please check your junk/spam folder as some mail servers filter MUA messages as junk mail. If you find it, click the link within to activate your account. After you've clicked, you will be prompted to select a username and password. Note: passwords are case sensitive.

Q: How do I review a product that's not on MakeupAlley?

A: You must be a registered member, and complete at least one review of an existing product, before you can add new products to the MakeupAlley database.

Once you have completed your first review, go to Add a Product to add a new product. Please search first to verify that the product isn't already in our system.

Q: How do I change my username?

A: Please Contact Us directly to request a username change. Select My Account/Login as the contact reason and provide your top 3 new username options in the message body.

Please note that usernames can only be changed once.

Q: How do I log out of Makeup Alley?

A: Click the down arrow to the right of your username, and then click on "Logout".

Q: Where can I find a list of the abbreviations used on this site?

A: A list of common abbreviations used on MakeupAlley can be found here.

Q: Does MUA share personal information?

No, unless we are required to do so by law enforcement agencies or presented with a court order.

Q: Are members allowed to sell items on MakeupAlley?

No selling is permitted on MakeupAlley. Any posts that include advertising or affiliate links will be removed.

Q: Why am I getting a blank page when trying to send a Mail message?

A: There may be software on your computer blocking information from the MUA servers.

Q: What is a troll and what should I do when I spot one?

A: A troll is a user who posts messages intended to insult and provoke. For each person who responds, the poster (the troll as a person) will consider that person a target. The most effective way to eradicate trolls is to disengage. If even one member engages with a troll, they will have a reason to return. Here are 5 easy guidelines about handling trolls:

1) Don't read posts from or about trolls
2) Don't read emails from or about trolls
3) If you can't resist reading, don't respond
4) Flag the post immediately, if applicable
5) If the content is directed at you, ignore the post and report it to us through the Contact Us link at the bottom of any page

Q: How do I edit my reviews?

A: To edit your reviews, go to My Reviews, find the review you wish to edit, and click on Edit under Actions. You can also find the link to My Reviews from the Product Reviews main page, when you're logged in.

Q: How do I write a review for a brand that's not on MakeupAlley?

A: Conduct a search to find the product on the Product Reviews page, and select Unlisted Brand from the dropdown brand menu.

If the product isn't in the MakeupAlley database, you may Add a Product. You must complete at least one review of an existing product, before you can add products to the MUA database.

You may also submit a request about having a new brand added by writing to us through the Contact Us link at the bottom of any page.

Q: How can I stop receiving mail from a specific user?

When you receive an email, open it, then click on the 'Ignore' link near the Reply and Delete links. This will add the user to your Ignore List so that you no longer receive messages from them. If you feel you are being harassed by another user via MUA Mail, please Contact Us directly.

Q: How do I add a photo to a message or my profile?

A: Adding a profile photo: 1) click the arrow next to your username 2) click Upload Pictures 3) upload a picture from your computer 4) after you upload you will get a prompt to "Give description and categorize your new pictures" click that link 5) next to the image you can click "Set Profile Pic" to set this as your profile Picture Adding a photo to a message: If the photo is on the internet and is in JPG format, just include the full URL of the photo in your member board message and MUA will show it in the message. Please do not hotlink photos. Only use photos from your MUA gallery or another hosting site.

Q: How do I upload pictures from my phone?

You can upload photos in jpg, gif or png format from the mobile version of the MakeupAlley site (not from the App at this time). Log into from the browser on your mobile device. Click on the menu icon and then click on Upload Pictures.

Q: What does block mean?

The blocking feature applies to the Member Boards as well as the messaging system (MUA Mail). If you block/ignore a member, you can't see their posts and they can't see your posts. You can't see their profile and they can't see your profile.

To undo a member block click Mail/Ignore List.

Should you decide to block a member, please do so privately. Posting about a member you blocked, or posting polls asking who members have blocked, is harassing/inflammatory behavior and will be treated as a violation of the Terms of Use of the site.

A: To keep the quality of product reviews and message board posts relevant and valuable, we ask that you DO NOT post any links to personal blogs, websites, YouTube channels or social media outlets except as follows:

You may post links to your personal blog, YouTube channel or social media accounts in the "About Me" section at My Profile.

You may also post links to relevant YouTube videos when writing a product review. You can find instructions on how to do this when you select "Write a Review" for a given product.
