Oh dear, where do I start…. I am so incredibly disappointed with this foundation, I quite simply cannot understand how my experience with it can be so different from other peoples’. I’ve got very pale, cool-toned dry skin. In my experience, even the most luminous of foundations cannot even begin to make me look shiny, as a matter of fact, I frequently apply a few drops of facial oil under my foundation and even that does not manage to make me look greasy. One day, I read that Mehron’s cream foundation was used by Kylie Jenner’s makeupartist. I did a spot of research and discovered that this foundation was a fans’ favourite and had glowing reviews. It was supposed to give a flawless, skin-like finish, have medium to high coverage and be moisturising. I was so excited for this product that the disappointment tasted even more bitter. First, the coverage left a lot to be desired. Even with a heavy application, I could still see my surface redness poking through and it did not cover my blemishes . I could have dealt with the low coverage if my skin had looked fresh and glowing. Sadly this foundation looked like I was wearing a greasy chalky mask all over my face. Yes, this manages to look both greasy and chalky which is no small feat. This foundation highlighted dry patches I didn’t even know I had (I did try several bases/primers underneath but to no avail). My forehead looked especially bad since this foundation settles into any fine lines you might have. Weirdly enough, it never dried down on my cheeks and nose and would come off at the slightest touch. On those areas, it looked terribly greasy, not in a healthy, glowy way but in a “I’ve cold cream all over my face” way. Besides, while the colour range is impressive (Light 1 and 2 actually matched my skin which is pretty rare, 2 being slightly darker and warmer), the finish looked so dull and lifeless on my skin that keeping it as a mixer is not even a viable solution. To add insult to injury, my best friend actually commented on how bad my foundation looked every time I tried wearing it in front of her so this will be going straight to the bin.

Update 12/2019 I kept this in the back of my drawer to “someday try again.” I‘D purchased a couple Crown lipsticks (to save my few remaining good lipsticks for “worthy” wearing); the Crown lipsticks are gorgeous, but the color migrates to everything, even my teeth. I tried this lipstick setting product yet again, I had exactly the same experience as before. My lips not only tingled, but they hurt a little from this product due to winter dryness.. and I have good lip care. I’ve tossed this Lip Set out, and lowered my rating from 2 stars to a 1 star. Don’t waste your money!!! Original Review: LipMix by Mehron is a clear liquid that comes in what looks like a nail polish bottle with a brush that has slightly tilted bristles. I’m not sure if the ends of the brush are supposed to be a little scewed (slightly tilted) or if I got an unusual one. It smells strongly like mint (mint is not an ingredient). It makes my lips tingle for over 20 minutes after I use it. The instructions say to “let dry one minute.” I wear emollient lipsticks; this doesn’t fully set after a couple minutes—but that may be because of the Type of lipsticks I use. I blot my lips after ten minutes and there is a full-out lip print on the white tissue... it was only a little less product on the lip blot than if I had not used the product. And my lips were tingling away. (Not lip plumping—and no lip plumping claimed—just tingling). This didn’t make my lipstick last any longer, nor did it keep my lipstick from leaving lip prints on glasses and cups. It’s not drying. Again, could be because of the emollient lipbase I use. It doesn’t have any of my many allergens—that’s a plus. I will keep this product to try with other types of lip stain, lip pencil and lipstick products. My lack of success with this product may be partially my own fault due to the lip products I use over it. I will update in a month or two. As of this time, I’m disappointed in the product. Maybe time will change that.. will see. Ingredients: SD Alcohol 38B (Alcohol Denat), Glycerin, Acrylates/Octylacrylamide Copolymer, Ethylcellulose, Hydropropylcellulose. May contain: (+- Cl 17200 - Red 33)

Velvet Finish Primer

Update 12/2019 : This is still an outstanding primer and I’m still very very pleased with its performance! I highly recommend! Original Review: This silicone primer leaves a velvet, airbrushed finish—NO shine. My skin is both very oily and very dry (thanks Arctic winter).. and this works well for me. The pump dispenser is reliable and works well. My different foundations apply well over this.. but because of the nice finish left by the primer itself, I’ll wear it solo if I’m having a rare good skin day, or if I want to be more natural. The product doesn’t say what the percentage of vitamin C is, so it could be barely any— or more. I have numerous, severe allergies to many common skincare ingredients; this product has a very short list of ingredients—and NO coconut derivatives, no nut/seed oils! No fragrance! Yea! I was very happy with my first bottle so I bought 3 backups during a Christmas sale. (As soon as I find something that works well for me it gets discontinued.) If you don’t have numerous allergies then you have many more options than I do. However, this is the best-performing primer Ive found to date.
