Loose Powders -DHC - Q10 Loose Powder in Transparent 01
znagel 4/2/2009 4:11:00 PM
I had been using the DHC Q10 powder in translucent 00..and really liking it....BUT, then I decided to examine the ingredients and much to my dismay it contains ALUMINUM (as in aluminum starch)! How could I have missed that! Sending it back today. My mother lost her battle with Alzheimers in 2007. I am now on a mission to go completely aluminum free. It is very hard to do...especially where good antiperspirants are concerned. Here's the complete list of ingredients for anyone interested: talc, aluminum starch octenylsuccinate, dimethicone, zinc myristate, methicone, silica, isononyl isononanoate, squalane, phenoxyethanol, olea europaea (olive) fruit oil, ubiquinone, water, butylene glycol, olea europaea (olive) leaf extract, microcrystalline cellulose (Transparent 00 and Transparent 01), barium sulfate (Yellow 01 and Pink 01), HDI/trimethylol hexyllactone crosspolymer (Transparent 00 and Transparent 01), boron nitride (Yellow 01 and Pink 01). May contain: mica, bismuth oxychloride, titanium dioxide, iron oxides, ultramarines, red 30

Lotions/ Creams -LUSH - Smitten
znagel 3/3/2009 12:54:00 AM
This hand cream works wonderfully. Leaves a soft, dewy film on the hands for quite awhile. This does not smell exactly like Snowcake, so at first I was disappointed. BUT, I am now addicted to this Snowcake-ish smell. It makes your hands feel divine. I like it much better than Handy Gurugu or Helping Hands. It is heavenly going on. UGH...I now have yet another Lush addiction. ;)

Misc Beauty Tools -LUSH - LUSH - Whole Store

I am a lushie. With that said, I love some of the LUSH stores and hate others because the staff are so pushy. At one particular LUSH store (Michigan) a SA actually lied to me. Here is the story. The SA was so pushy and totally hovering all over me suggesting this, suggesting that. I gently told her that I am a Lushie and do not need the demos as I already know everything about everything at LUSH. She backed off...a bit. Then she saw me looking over the hair conditioners and asked me which one I used. I said I use a different brand, Kerastase. She said, "Oh I know that one, it is very similar to American Cream." And then gave it to me to smell. That is an outright lie! Kerastase and American Cream (both great products by the way) have nothing in common. But my favorite LUSH store has wonderful SA's that are never pushy. Don't get me wrong, they are very attentive when needed and they suggest things in the nicest way.

Gels/Soaps -LUSH - Sea Vegetable Soap
znagel 2/3/2009 7:34:00 PM
Love the smell of this soap. It reminds me of tropical sea air...and not the touristy kind with the smell of coconut tanning out..no, this smells simply like a warm, caressing, breeze by the ocean.

Creamy almond icing heaven! I stock up on this and use it all year. I don't even like almond scented things. I love this smell though. Like others have said, "it must be the crack those Lush people put in their products!" LOL!

Gels/Soaps -LUSH - I should Coco Soap [DISCONTINUED]
znagel 1/3/2009 11:12:00 PM
Love this soap... not sure what it is that people don't like as a lot of the Lush soaps are scratchy and leave bits behind. That is the intended purpose..to exfoliate. This soap is very exfoliating AND moisturizing, which I find is a unique combination that I will be addicted to for as long as it is around. The level of exfoliation can be controlled by the amount of pressure you apply. I take a chunk of it and scrub the heck out of the bottom of my feet...it works AWESOMELY as a foot exfoliator and makes them feel so soft to boot. Ah geez, I guess I am in the minority but I love it.

Treatments -DDF - Redness Relief Gel
znagel 11/10/2008 2:57:00 PM
I would not say that I have a redness problem, so when the SA at Beauty First gave me a sample of this I had to wonder...why? LOL! Upon staring at the mirror and deciding that I indeed do not have a redness problem, put the sample in my bin of samples to give away. Then last night I decided to try my Retin-A on my neck, which always irritates my neck skin...but I try every once in awhile anyway. Yes, I woke up with a red neck..I remembered the DDF Redness Relief sample and went and dug it out and tried it. Two hours later I looked in the mirror and the redness was completely gone! Usually my neck is red for the entire next day..and itchy too. I know, I know, why do I do it to myself then? I don't know. Anyway, I can't believe the results I had to immediately come see other reviews and leave one myself. I thought redness relief products were for Roscacea and/or couperose skin. But, lo and behold it works immediately for irritation! I think I will try the Aveeno Redness formula as another reviewer suggested before forking out the money for the DDF. I'll leave an update after I try the Aveeno to see if it works as well as the DDF.

Gels/Soaps -LUSH - Porridge Soap
znagel 10/7/2008 1:14:00 PM
Love, love, love this smell! .....but the pin head oat granules don't disintergrate (like the coconut in I Should Coco, for example) and clog my bath tub drain. I am against using chemical de-cloggers such as Drano, so I had to hire a plumber to snake it...ugh. I am hoping for a more disintegrateable ingredient (or just pinhead free) to be added as the exfoliation part of this lovely soap.

Treatments -Estee Lauder - Idealist Pore Minimizing Skin Refinisher
znagel 9/11/2008 3:32:00 PM
I thought this was going to be a pore-clogger so I didn't want to use it all over my face. I decided to only use it on my nose, where I have the largest pores. I didn't notice anything the first week or so, but kept using it every single day. Must be applied before moisturizer and I let it sink in for a few minutes before I apply my makeup (I don't put moisturizer on my nose anyway). One day, about a month later I noticed that I had no clogged pores at all on my nose. I use to have a few daily that I would have to squeeze out (sorry about being gross). Now I have none. With that said, it does work to dissolve the debris in the pore...works very well. However, my pore size overall has not changed (I understand that is genetic). But, they are smaller because they are not stretched out with gunk. I believe that is what they meant when they said it makes the pores smaller. So, bottom line: it works! I am still amazed that it works because the silicony texture seems like it would be clogging. And it doesn't have harsh salicylates to do the unclogging. I believe it's the glucosomine and mild fruit acids...amazing.

Deodorants -LUSH - Aromacreme [DISCONTINUED]
znagel 6/22/2008 2:20:00 PM
My mother recently passed away after her long battle with Alzheimer's disease. In my quest to ward off the disabling disease I began looking for a good aluminum-free deodorant. This is the first one that keeps me stink-free all day-no exaggeration. It doesn't control wetness that great, but if I put powder on after the aromacreme I am pretty much dry all day. I do have an occasional wet feeling as if the wetness has broken through, but then it goes away and I am dry the rest of the day. BUT, this stuff can cause itchy red bumps that do not show up until after a few days of straight use (the reason I took off one lippie). BUMMER! I almost returned it to the LUSH counter but they gave me some suggestions on how to avoid the red bumps: wash armpits as usual but tone down the scrubbing with the wash cloth, wait until armpits are dry, put moisturizer on armpits and let dry, then apply aromacreme. That works! I also put Monistat anti-chafing gel around the outside edges of my armpits. So far so good. I sure hope they do not discontinue this as it works wonders on smelly underarms! I have not had the problem with staining yet, I'll pay closer attention and report back. UPDATE: I have mastered the use of this with no sign of red bumps or itching at all now. I use Tom's of Maine first then apply a little dab of this and I have smell free underarms ALL day and no itchies or bumps at all.

Deodorants -Aubrey Organics - E Plus High C Natural Roll-On Deodorant
znagel 6/22/2008 2:12:00 PM
Softens armpit skin but only kept me stink free for about 3 hours. I was bummed considering the success of other reviewers. The only natural deodorant, so far, that keeps me stink-free is Lush's aromacreme, but it can be very irritating (see my aromacreme review).

Toners -Kinerase - Antioxidant Hydrating Mist
znagel 4/4/2008 12:38:00 AM
This is an goog toner with repairing type properties. It hydrates and refreshes. I bought this from Sephora.com and when it arrived I noticed that it did not spray like a mist, but rather globs of liquid. I thought that was odd as it is called a "Mist." I took it to Sephora at Somerset in Troy, MI to see if maybe the sprayer was defective. The first Sephora SA tried to tell me that was how it was supposed to be..that I should just use it on a cotton ball. I wasn't buying it..this product is called a mist and I was really sold on the great reviews hear on MUA based on the mist properties.Another SA then checked the tester and the tester indeed had a fine mist. It seems that Kinerase has mistakenly put the wrong spray topper on some of the Hydrating Mist bottles (the cleanser pump tops instead of the mist top). The Sephora associate was going to replace my spray top with the tester spray top...EWWWWWW!! I adamantly stated that I do not want the tester top (this SA obviously has never had a microbiology course). Anyway, I traded the bottle for a whole new bottle and the spray now comes out in a fine mist..and I am happy. After this experience, I have lost some faith in the Sephora SA's.
