Lipstick -MAC - Flowerplay
xuelint 5/9/2007 2:19:00 AM
I knew I wanted this after I saw the swatches on specktra. MAC describes this as a "Sheer tulip-pink with silver pearl". It does look rather bright from the tube, but because of its lustre formula, it goes on sheerer with a glossy finish (a sweet warm pink) on my slightly pigmented lip, which is totally perfect for summer! I may consider getting a backup since it is LE.

Mascara -MAC - Fibre Rich Lash Mascara
xuelint 5/7/2007 5:18:00 AM
I must be among the few minorities who like this. I actually hated it when I tried it the first time. The brush is too wet and it puts too much of the product on my lashes, making them clumpy. I noticed the same problem with all MAC's mascaras. I'm not sure if it is the formula of the product or the problem with the lousy wand. Anyway, I would normally coat my lashes gently with this and use another mascara wand to brush and separate the lashes. A comb may work too. Together with a mascara base (I'm using Kate Mascara Base), this lengthens, thickens and defines my lashes (though I somehow wish this can give me the more dramatic results by the Zoom mascara), and the curl stays on the entire day.

Lip Gloss -Stila - It Gloss - Sweet
xuelint 5/7/2007 5:04:00 AM
I took out this and wore it today. I love it just as I used to (I generally like all Stila's It glosses). It is not sticky and gives a nice amount of shine. I also like its fine micro shimmers and sweet vanilla scent. I prefer the brush that comes with it, compared to the typical wand type of applicators of most glosses. As for the shade, Sweet is a natural semi-pale rosy shade on my slightly pigmented lips. Definitely very neutral and a everyday shade. Overall, I'm pleased with this and I would repurchase if I ever finish it. However, I took a rating off because of its price.

Blush -Milani - Powder Blush - Pink Craze [DISCONTINUED]
xuelint 4/26/2007 5:22:00 AM
A decent and cheap blush which gives me a healthy pink flush (and not shimmery) on the cheeks. The texture is smooth and it stays on me for the whole day. However, one thing I don't like about this is the usual flip top Milani compact, which is a pain to open and may sometime chip my nails. Nonetheless, it is a pity that Milani has discontinued their blushes and replaced them with the sunset duos.

Mascara -Shu Uemura - Length and Waterproof Mascara
xuelint 4/26/2007 5:13:00 AM
I was quite satisfied with the basic mascara, but as it had been discontinued by Shu, I decided to give this a try. The brush is tiny, so it can reach out to the corner of the lashes and work well on the lower lashes. However, it tends to clump the lashes and combing doesn't help. It does lengthen the lashes (though just slightly for me), as its name implies. Don't expect to achieve thick and dramatic lashes with this. Also, for its price, I expect a better mascara than this, so I'm not going to buy this again. The only plus side of this is its waterproof formula, which does not smudge on me and it is not difficult to remove it at the end of the day (I'm using either Clarins Instant Eye Makeup Remover or Shu Cleansing Oil).

Mascara -MAC - Zoom lash
xuelint 4/26/2007 4:52:00 AM
For the first time, I actually like a MAC's mascara, although I won't say it is my top favourite. I wouldn't have bothered to try/purchase this if it were not sent to me as an extra by one of the sweetest members (I dislike all the MAC's mascara I had tried before this). Honestly, I hated this the first time I tried it. The brush is too wet and it puts too much of the product on my lashes, making them clumpy. However, I have since learnt how to work around with this. The trick is to gently coat your lashes with Zoom Lash and use another mascara wand to brush and separate the lashes. A comb may work or another alternative, as suggested by my favourite MA, is to wipe the brush on a tissue (I have not tried these two though). The result is very thick, long lashes - very dramatic and dolly lashes, and with a good mascara base, the curl will stay on for the entire day.

Blush -Pout - Pearly Queen
xuelint 4/25/2007 1:25:00 PM
Sephora describes Pearly Queen as a cool pearl pink. On me, it's a gorgeous girly pink. It is not shimmery and gives me a natural glow. This is definitely one of my favourite baby pink blusher! Because Pout's Rouges are very pigmented, make sure your brush does not pick up too much of the blush. Other than the lovely shade, I love the cute green compact too!

Eye Shadow -Chanel - Lumiere D'Artifices Eye Shadow 2007 LE
xuelint 4/25/2007 1:08:00 PM
From some articles that I had read online, the Lumieres d' Artifices compact was inspired by the sequins that are featured on many of the fashion label and consists of 3 metallic shades: cool silver, deep anthracite and warm bronze. All three shades are sparked with iridescence and can be worn individually or blended together on the eyes or face.
My thoughts:
Chanel blew me away totally with their spring collection! I couldn't stop thinking about this after I saw pictures on the board in Dec last year (this came out later in Jan in Singapore). I was totally in love with the detailed sequined design (very detailed and excellent craftmanship) and I had not seen such pretty makeups in a long time! I rushed down to the counter when it was launched here, but I went back and forth before finally deciding to buy it, as it is quite pricey at SG$81 (about US$54, though it was cheaper than what it was sold for in US).
If I were to describe the 3 shades myself, I would describe them as silverish white, gunmetal grey and golden bronze. All of them are very sparkly. I was glad and had not regretted purchasing this. It was sold out quickly a few weeks later. Even though I had used this only once, as I cannot bear to ruin this pretty little thing, it feels really great to own it - the feeling is almost indescribable.

Blush -Chanel - Irreelle Blush 25 In Love
xuelint 4/25/2007 12:27:00 PM
I have not purchased a Chanel blush for almost a year (coincidentally, the last blush I bought from Chanel was from last year's spring collection). Anyway, I couldn't resist buying this pretty little thing, along with the Lumiere D' Artifices, which is also from the spring collection. In Love is decently pigmented (unlike most Irreelle Blush) and gives a nice pinkish coral glow - nothing dramatic and it makes me look very healthy. Like what the other reviewers had mentioned, the fine gold shimmers are not noticeable when applied. Love this blush!! I will definitely repurchase if I ever run out, though this is very unlikely.

Eye Shadow -Tarte - Grace Bay Duo
xuelint 4/25/2007 12:01:00 PM
Grace Bay consists of a matte black with very fine silver glitters and a shimmery pale blue. The shadows are packed in a cute purple magnetized leather compact, which comes with a small mirror. The texture of the shadows are soft and pigmented, so you do need to be a little careful with the black shade. Also, the glitters may fall all over your face, though I don't find this as annoying as the other glittery shadows I had tried, since the glitters are not chunky. In terms of the pricing, I think US$26 is rather pricey for an eye shadow duo, but the size of the pan of the duo is the same as a single, which costs US$17.

Eye Shadow -Tarte - Kamalame Cay
xuelint 4/25/2007 11:40:00 AM
Kamalame Cay consists of a turquoise blue and a mint green (this is described as a lime green on Sephora, but I think mint green, which is described by the first reviewer, reflects it more truly). Both shades are shimmery. The shadows are soft, pigmented and easy to work with. This is indeed a very pretty duo. I probably have similar turquoise shades, but the green shade is gorgeous - one of the prettiest green I have come across!

Blush -Scott Barnes - Chic Palette in Posh
xuelint 4/25/2007 11:05:00 AM
I was mainly drawn by the sleek and chic packaging and I thought it was a great idea to have 3 shades of pinks in a palette, which would be great for contouring. The other ladies had already described the shades, so I'm not going to do that again. These blushes are very pigmented, soft and easy to blend. It is quite pricey at US$45, but considering the amount of the products you get and quality of the blushes, I think it is worth it. I'm definitely going to get another different palette.

Blush -Milani - Smooth Finish Blush - Luminous
xuelint 4/25/2007 10:42:00 AM
Ok, I'm pretty slow to Milani blushers (Milani is not available in Singapore). I managed to get this in a swap and I finally understand why this is highly raved by the ladies here. This gives a very natural, beautiful glow on the cheeks, though it appears peachy from the pan. It is a pity that this is discontinued. However, one thing I don't like about this is the usual flip top Milani compact, which is a pain to open and may sometime chip my nails.

Blush -Milani - Double Impact Blush - Cherries on Top
xuelint 4/25/2007 10:34:00 AM
Thanks to a lovely member, I have finally managed to try this (Milani is not available in Singapore). This is a split pan blush duo and consists of a cherry red and a light pink. There are slight shimmers in both shades. To be honest, I have not quite figured out how to work around with this blush.
When I used this the first time, I tried the cherry red shade and layered the light pink shade over to tone the redness - it was way too dramatic for my liking. I had also tried swiping my brush over both shades, but my cheeks ended looking very messy with patches of red. Maybe I will try this again another time and I will probably be more careful, as this blush is very pigmented.
Another thing I don't like about this is the usual Milani flip top compact, which is a pain to open and may sometime chip my nails.

Makeup Brushes -Shu Uemura - #4F nylon brush
xuelint 4/25/2007 10:03:00 AM
I used to use this everyday mainly for lining MAC's fluidlines and Bobbi Brown's gel liners until I purchased the 2R brush. Nonetheless, I tried this brush again this morning and it works just as great. This can also be used for eyeshadows. It works "best for drawing eye line, or blending along the eye lines" according to Shu's website. In terms of pricing, it is quite affordable.
I don't think I would need to buy this again unless I have misplaced it, as I had this for more than 2 years, the quality of the bristles still feel the same. Overall, I'm very satisfied with this brush!
